The HobbyKing™ Ridge Ryder Slope Wing was designed as a compact, simple, stable, and purpose built wing specifically for the dynamic world of slope soaring. The all molded EPO foam airframe is rugged and light weight, while a single piece carbon spar keeps the model very stiff and crisp in response.

One of the biggest battles over the ages has been adding additional ballast to your slope wing; most designs having little to no consideration for it. You are then left with the task of taping on weight, or using clay to add the extra weight needed. We've eliminated that need on the Ridge Ryder by pre-installing twin ballast tubes into the model. Included in the box are steel ballast, and foam spacers. This allows you to run some, or all weight, then the foam spacers take up the extra room allowing you to also fine-tune your center of gravity. Molded hand grips make launching easier. Speaking of easy, access your receiver of ballast through the magnetically secured hatch.

The HobbyKing™ Ridge Ryder is the perfect addition to your hangar. Its small size is perfect to pack with you on a hike or keep in the car. It handles light lift as well as heavier conditions while being stable and nimble at the same time!

Features:
• Plug and fly - just install receiver and battery
• Molded EPO airframe with 1 piece carbon spar
• Built in ballast tubes allow you to add up to 84g of weights
• Magnetically secured access hatch

Specs:
Wingspan: 913mm
Length: 500mm
Weight: 175g (w/o battery)

Required:
2 Channel Transmitter and Receiver with elevon mixing
4.8~6.0 volt receiver battery or 2S 7.4V 800mah Lipo with UBEC

HobbyKing is proud to carry the Mobius ActionCam, a small, lightweight, fully configurable low cost HD video camera.

The Mobius ActionCam is the natural progression of the ever-popular 808 key chain camera. The developers of the 808 and the open source community came together to create a more capable 1080p level of hardware, but keeping what made the 808 cameras so great; small, lightweight, configurable and of course great video at a low cost.

The Mobius has been embraced by the DIY and Open Source community, pushing the ever growing software envelope and coming up with new ways to use the Mobius, such as different lenses and ribbon cables to relocate the camera section. The Mobius can even be reconfigured, settings changed and firmware updated using the free computer GUI software.

The Mobius camera is quickly becoming the go to camera for the RC community, with its low cost, video out capability for FPV use, superb HD video recording and DIY configurability. I'm open to something like a 450. Are they still agile? And would a 450 quad still be more efficient than a hex?

With a 450 I feel I would have more room to upgrade in the future if I did decide to add some bells and whistles.]]>

It's a trade off between weight and motor power.

So I believe with a Y6 hexacopter (that is a tricopter with two motors at each arm spinning ccw and cw) you will achieve the longest flight time.

Performance and stability of a Y6 hexacopter are excellent. And the frame with only 3 arms and 6 motors keeps the weight low.

Btw. one can easily convert HK's Titus tricopter in a Y6 hexacopter.

Edit: also, quadrotors have less frame per propeller than hexacopters, so that helps a bit.__Evan2015-05-26 21:22:50]]>

Realistically, it's probably going to be easier (not to mention more reliable and quieter) to either fit a smaller propeller (allowing a higher speed) or buy a different motor (they're only $10 anyway, it's not a huge cost).]]>

As for the Police attempting to prohibit flying from there - the CE of the BMFA even said the CAA have issued no notice to cease, and basically it is not a Police matter. I know that is something I certainly would be not willing to do on the say-so of the Police (unless they could show proof that the CAA have issued notice) and would happily get arrested. I wonder what the potential charge could be? Especially if the hill is private land? Could the Police be trespassing if not invited in by the land-owner, as no actual crime is being committed?

Opens up a whole can of worms if they go down that route ...

The Daily Mirror published the story as well and undoubtedly some others too.

I suspect a lot of things that should have been done were not. The hill in question is only 1nm from the runway, so ATC should have been informed models were flying (within 5nm of controlled airspace rule) and thence ATC should have warned any aircraft that models were in the that area. Then said pilot should have been on the lookout, and from what has been said at the soaring club concerned by someone actually there, said French pilot was way off course for the airport and too low in any case.]]>

<![CDATA[Mid-air incident : WTWUK]]> http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=65741
"Statement from the BMFA: Further to the recent incident involving a model aircraft and a full size light aircraft which occurred at Mill Hill near Shoreham Airport. The pilot of the model aircraft has submitted a detailed report on the incident to the BMFA head office, this has been passed onto the AAIB for investigation. At this time all indications are that the model flying was taking place in accordance with the local agreements and in a completely lawful manner. The location is a long established model flying site and model flying takes place with the full knowledge and agreement of Shoreham Airport. Following consultation and agreement with both the CAA and Sussex Police, we have advised BMFA members that model flying should continue on the site at this time."

Digging just a little further gave information that the pilot of the visiting French aircraft was not on the 'recommended' flight path for the airport, and was very low over the hill concerned.
The model involved was a foamie slope soarer ...
