can i use a 3s 20c battery on this transmitter ?
 Ashley 6 points
Yes you can, the 20c is the discharge rate of the lipo and this radio can take a lower rating. You can use a 20c 3s, but sure the dimensions are correct to fit, I used product id: 9210000036 with felt spacers and it's a perfect fit.

Can I use this transmitter with Orange Rx DSMX/DSM2 ?
 DJ Danielus 345 points
No it works only with HobbyKing and Turnigy V2 with this module. You can change it to proper Orange Tx module.

I'm new to this hobby and want to buy a transmitter which assure me my new quad won't come crashing out of the sky, two questions: Would anyone recommend this transmitter? What batteries do transmitters take?
 Ashley 6 points
Alfie, radio is good, bought mine 2 years ago and still going strong. To answer your questions - 1. This transmitter opened up the market in a big way for one reason - it's cheap and it works well especially if you're a beginner so I recommend it. 2. I bought the following battery: PRODUCT ID: 9210000036 and it works and fits perfectly - again 2 years running straight with no issue.

Thanks for crediting Alfie, happy flying!

Hello Ashley,I have to admit I'm pretty new at this, so be patient. I have read that setting up the cc3d with open pilot can byte you later. I dson't want the aircraft going through a neighbour's window or something similar.` You're right, I have only tried the setup wizards. Both the whole thing and then the setup vehicle wizard and the TX wizard separately. Either one gets me nowhere. Either the first (throttle) stick doesn't respond or it and the next two go ok but then it stalls on the three way switch and will not respond to the switch no matter how fast I switch it.on/off. How would I go about setting it up manually? I've never come across a procedure to set it up manually.

Hi Fred, sure I understand, one needs patience in this hobby. I would consider going through tx and rx process of elimination to determine if there are issues with either one as it soudns very suspicious that it won't let you take the next steps. You can check the rx by hooking it up to another model if you have one to see if all the channels respond. You could also power up the rx and hook up a servo to the individual channels if you don't have a spare model to test. Once you've cleared that you can look into the GUI. As you mentioned, you were going through the setup and it fails as some point. If you were using the Openpilot setup this is in the transmitter setup tab and in the window automatic is on the left and manual setup on the right. Unlike automatic setup where you are instructed to go through the individual channels/switches, all swiches and channels will be moving and will stop moving once they read the signal you have activated them. Since you're a turnigy 9x you will only have a two switch mode and will need to program that in. Also the other switches may not be working. Once all sticks and 3 position switch works, go ahead and save the settings. Then go to the display in the GUI with the settings tab and see if your handy work has been successful :) Step 1 would be to ensure continuity between rx and tx before taking on the next challenge. Good luck and keep us posted! :)

Gentlemen* I'm looking for advise on setting up my Turnigy 9x rev 2 to control a flame 250 with a cc3d processor and a turnigy RX. It indicates that it is bound (binded?) by the solid red light on the RX. The simptoms are I get through the whole process until I have to do the TX set up. Either of two things happen - I get no response from the moving throttle stick or it works fine until I get to the second stick (side to side) or even to nthev three way switch and then it ignores any input.. I've been working on this issue for over a month. Can anyone help?
 Ashley 6 points
Hi Fred, based on your description, II understand this happens while running automatic Transmitter setup through the GUI for the CC3D? If you're using the Openpilot interface as I did, I would recommend trying the manual transmitter setup and go through all your control limits and buttons. Also make sure your setup isn't short on power with a fully charged system of quad and transmitter. Hope it helps.

I am using an ASSAN hacker modulewith the 9X Tx.
With no recievers available I hooked up the Hacker as follows:
1- Top Pin signal
2- no connection
3- Red plus
4- Black -
5- no connection.

You can see photo's at only gave it 4 stars as the TX did not work as recieved, one of the wires to the dual rate switch was not connected, an easy fix.

I'd give this radio a 5 star rating but there are a few minor things that subtract points.
-One is that putting the batteries is a hassle, the 8 AA cell holder is OK, but the cable gets on the way of the cover and it takes a while to be able to close it, there's a lot of pinching of the cables involved so I shouldn't wonder if the insulation fails sooner or later requiring a replacement of the cables.
-Second is the very annoying and loud BEEEEP!!! you get with every-single-click you do on the buttons, seriously stressing to set up the radio at home, not good for conjugal life. To fix that I cut the leg that goes from a transistor to the speaker and added a 220 Ohm resistor in between.
-Third, no manual comes with the radio.
-Fourth setting up a V-Tail was a mind bending affair, I succeeded but I couldn't grok the logic of the procedure.

Besides those things it's a good product.

I purchased this transmitter & Assan XJ8 module from HC. First I got around the switch error bug (thanks to that reviewer)
For me the Assan XJ8 just flashes red once on start up, but gives no steady red LED & will not go into pairing mode.
Assan say they don't know the problem & suggest putting XJ8 in another TX (I don't have one)
Anyone know how to test if TGY 9X or Assan is the problem? Thanks

Great range - over 3000m, but realy to big receiver. Also dont like to small battery compartment, and antenna linked with wire.
You Also can't mix with AUX cahnnels - you can oly mix first 4 cahnells. No manual - It could be at least link at this product to download manual for Turnigy 9x. Also don,t like that this transsmiter in almost never in stock, or that there smaller 6 ch receivers I waiting for more 3 months So from me only 3 stars.
