I have this motor on my slick 360. Crashed the other day but got everything back together ok. Ran motor up and it will start out fine but then make like a choking sound and shut down. Move throttle back to 0 and it will come back up again, but will do the same thing if run up too high. Getting really hot too. Don't think the motor got hurt in the crash and it runs fine up to half throttle. Any ideas? Running a 2s 25c battery.
 RonRC 2005 points
DGHallal, You may be overloading it with a prop that's too large for this motor to turn. 5x3 is optimal and no prop bigger than 5in. Hope this helps and Happy flying!
RonRC  2005 points - 5/16/2013

Hello all, I've uploaded plans for my Micro Extra 300 profile plane in the files tab if anyone is interested. Happy flying!

Hello! 7 og my 8 motors have grub screw missing! So, why not add some extra srews? Thank you!

Hi everyone, let me know please, how I can programmed HobbyKing 6A ESC 0.5A UBEC, which progamming card is compatible with this esc ? Thank All!
 RonRC 2005 points
Andriyan, This is the program card I use on practically all but a few ESCs. "PRODUCT ID: TR_PC". It works well with just about all programmable ESCs but was designed for the Plush.

What are the temp ranges for these motors? Mine are running 100-120F after 3 minutes of flight using 5x3 props. Even warmer with 5x3x3
avi@tor  29 points - 4/9/2013

Motor specs: 9 stator arms, 12 magnets.

Have anyone received before motor that is 1811-3800kv when the motor box indicate is 1822-2900kv?
 ZJ 8 points
Is 1811 not 1822

Does anyong know flying weight for this moto? Thanks
 RonRC 2005 points
Danos, It very much depends on your application of this motor... fixed wing, heli, multirotor? I use 3 of these on my little T-tricopter. Hope this helps and Happy flying!
 RonRC 2005 points
Here they are on my little tricopter.
 RonRC 2005 points
This was the maiden of this little tricopter.
 Drunya 55 points
RonRC, what props do you use?
 RonRC 2005 points
Drunya, I'm using 5x3x3 GemFan props. They are sold here as 5030 and 5030R props.

I have 6 to 7 grub screw missing. only noticed it when it came loose and crash. was trying to get these small grub screw from Hobby King but tech support asked me to buy M3 grubs screws instead.. haha.
 aranfitz78 7 points
The grub screws are tiny so I think you'll find them difficult to replace. Thankfully the motor is small so you can glue the bits together with CA. It will hold.
 RonRC 2005 points
Terence, I've not done it on these "Yet", but on the little C10 motors I've replaced with larger screws by using a drill and tap. All can be done by hand using pliers. Hope this helps and Happy flying!
Blackout  2 points - 2/19/2013

Make sure you tighten all of the grub screws when you get these. I've had 2 failures related to the grub screws on these motors :(
 aranfitz78 7 points
Yes, CA / loctite them in place.

Anyone think this will work on a mini crack yak? 6x3 prop?
 __AD.. 18 points
Yeah, that'll work.
 Danos 16 points
Hi i have a 5x5 prop will fitting a 6x3 make much difference? Thanks
__BB-Q  212 points - 2/9/2013

Has anyone measured the current draw on 2s using the 5x3x3 props? Want to make sure that I'm ordering the right ESCs for my micro quad
 __AD.. 18 points
I don't think you'll be needing too much power, I'd recommend the Turnigy Plush 6A ESCs
 RonRC 2005 points
I'm running 3 of these with 3 turnigy plush ESCs and my little soapbox tricopter flies wonderfully. I'm using a 1000mAh 2S 30C battery too.
 RonRC 2005 points
I took it outdoors for a maiden flight and crashed it... TWO times. Ha ha! It was easy to rebuild and it flies again.
 wesix 94 points
Yes, current draw on 5x3x3 is a tiny bit less than 6 amps at full throttle, thrust about 110 grams on a fresh 2s battery
ohmgnohm  46 points - 1/30/2013

I make some tests at home. With 3S 1000mA 35C Battery and 5x3 props. It pulls at full power 10.77 Amps and 115Watts :-) So if u build a Quadcopter with this setup u need at least a Battery with 1000mA and 35C

hi all! what is the distance hole to hole? thanks
 CrashAce 797 points
The mounting holes are 17mm across (diameter)

Esse motor com uma hé*lice 6x3 é* bom para um pageboy de aproximadamente 110 gramas RTF (Peso incluindo o motor ja) ?

building a turnigy micro quad ok i cut to more wire short enough to reach the board. now i cant solder it to the board it not taking the solder it like repelling it! what can i do? using the turnigy motor. fo i have to take apart he motor? if so how? what size Allen wrench?
 Galessin 11 points
You can try to put a flame under the wire to burn the coating and then use a sandpaper on the wire. Use flux or flux core wire when you solder.

Sometime you can try other kind of solder too like silver , it may work better.

 Tommy 11 points
i just got the wire soo short now i may have to splice it together.
 ohmgnohm 46 points
Burn the wires with fire....after take a sharp knife and scratch away the coating...after clean the wires with nitro..let it dry...now put flux on it an solder it again.....on this way i do it always and it works great
 mlp666 5 points
You could try using an active flux. Active flux uses an acid to clean and etch into the metal. Just make sure you clean the joint afterwards as the acid will still be active after you have soldered.
 aranfitz78 7 points
The motor to motor mount connection is fixed with 2 allen grub screws. They are ridiculously small and the size is for me still unclear (perhaps they're imperial). I bought a set of various tiny allen keys and I can tell you that the 0.75mm, 0.9mm, 1.2mm all don't fit. I ended up using a star drive which did the job. My advice, buy a kit with many different tiny drivers and just use the one that fits the best. You can't use much force (torque) otherwise you'll break them, so just nip them up, a good fitting flat head will also do the job. You need to use CA to fix them anyway.
aranfitz78  7 points - 12/20/2012

What is the diameter of the motor mount holes? I can only find M2.5 bolts locally so I was hoping to use these.
 CrashAce 797 points
they are 17mm across the hole diameter looks like 1.5mm. 2.5mm will not work there is not enough material to enlarge them that much. I used some spare servo mounting screws for mine.
 aranfitz78 7 points
Thanks anyway CrashAce, but I bought M2.5 bolts and they definitely fit, M3 however would not fit. M2 would also fit fine. Perhaps there are different versions... but I have a mix of new and old and they are the same.
 wesix 94 points
mount holes definitely are M2.5
 CrashAce 797 points
I purchased mine more than a year ago, must be using a different mounting plate now.
 wesix 94 points
i'm wrong, these wholes are in fact m2 size.

Anyone here know what size of wire that is use to wind these 2900kv motors and the number of turns?
vincenzo  8 points - 12/7/2012

What size hex wrench is needed for the gear screws? I have the .050 inch size (1.27mm) and it is too big! It seems to be much smaller!
 CrashAce 797 points
Everything (or just about) you buy from HK is metric. You need a 1mm hex for this one.
 FrankPo 9 points
On my engine their are two different size screws. The big one is 1.3 mm Hex the small one in 0.9 mm Hex.
 robopony 9 points
The bigger set screw (holding the motor in the mount) is SAE .050 and the smaller one (holding the bell to the shaft) is SAE .035.
Ender22  46 points - 11/28/2012

I order these with the 5x3 or 5030 black and red props and i see it's a common thing to order. How did you get the props to stay on. After I adjusted the hole there's not enough room to put the spinner on. Help!!
 CrashAce 797 points
Are you using the spinner that came with the motor? It's surprising that a 5x3 doesn't fit. You could try to find a different 2mm prop adapter with a longer threaded length, or (against better advice)if the propeller hub is wide enough you could counter sink the hub or just sand it down a bit just enough to thread it about 3 turns.
 Joao 13 points
Hello Ender22, advise you to use a 1.8mm-2mm drill to open the 5030 props axis and then force the prop into the shaft, WHITHOUT the hub. You save weight and complication. You can ever over those drills/mills here. Regards,

will this motor be suitable for the Bonzai? what prop would you use (Product code) and how big a lipo can i use?
 CrashAce 797 points
I responded to you question with quite a bit of detail but for some reason my answer was deleted. Yes, This motor should workout well. The Bonzai calls for a 5x3 prop and this motor can handle up to 6x3. Your fine to use the Bonzai recommend 5X3 or for additional speed HobbyKing has a 5x5 that should work. For additional thrust you could try a 5x3x3 (three blade, but currently out-of-stock). stick with the Bonzai recommended battery size to avoid CoG or wing loading issues.

Hi !! I have done somte tests with this motor and uploaded the results because I think they can be interesting for others as well. See the attached pdf file (MotorData(SK3_sv_1811).pdf). It contains Turnigy SK3 motor data as well to compare them *-) Enjoy ...
 Ramon 9 points
Thank you for uploading that, but do you also have a comparison between props (specifically the 3 bladed vs 2 bladed 5030's)
Andytheman  28 points - 11/12/2012

Does this come with the propadapter showing in the picture? If so, anyone know the prop diameter it fits?
 avi@tor 29 points
Dear HK, why does this motor comes without electrical specifications? Do you actually realise that it is impossible to make any calculations without knowing Resistance and No-load current of this motor? Also specifying magnet pole count would be very nice. You have done so much since I first attend this store, don't stop now, be professional.
 CrashAce 797 points
It's a 2mm shaft. I bought a prop adapter separate but found that it is included with the motor. So now I have an extra. Yes! The prop adapter comes with it!
 Matias 5 points
I ordered one.. it' s beautifully made and safely boxed (which is great: here in Italy they tend to BEND and TWIST fragile packages easily) and i had a nice surprise!! It comes with everything to connect it!! (connectors, prop adapter, even shrink tube!!) you only need to add a prop of your choice!!

has anyone used these motors with a 3s pack? I currently am using a 2s pack, they do get a bit warm, but I am needing a bit more punch. Thanks.

has anyone used these motors with a 3s pack? I currently am using a 2s pack, they do get a bit warm, but I am needing a bit more punch. A little expensive, fragile bearings
 TechnoFinder 126 points
i tryed on the quadCopter...lmy experience is it s getting too hot for 3s.
 ohmgnohm 46 points
I use them in my 2 micro Quads..... 5x3 Prop...and 3s 1000mA Lipo. The motors get normal temperature :-D so nooo problem at all. I just change the motorplate support. Just drill out the hohle in the support...and change the motor to the other side.....so u get less fibrations on the motor.
Syamil17  23 points - 8/10/2012

What's the size of the grub screw?
 BrianB192 1294 points
it is the larger of the smaller ,,but very well made ..do you want a measurement with vernier ,i can give you that ,,but i do see its well made large enough ,and good size not to large to out balance it .
 TechnoFinder 126 points
1.5 mm ?
 Syamil17 23 points
If thats the size then i will need to buy a hexdriver. Thanks. I needed to know that because i was thinking of pushing the shaft the other end for my lama v4.
Del-Dredd  15 points - 7/16/2012

How come they put a postage weight on this that is over 300% inflated on the weight of the motor, even adding the propsaver etc and a small card box should be no where near 44grams, or do they use wodden boxes.
 Vrdetailing 78 points
You need to take all charges into account before purchasing including customs if necessary...
 Del-Dredd 15 points
What has that got to do with the price of fish.

I am talking about the weight they are claiming as 44grams, when motor only weighs 12 supposedly.
 Vrdetailing 78 points
The weight is used to calculate the postage... If you are not happy try to find it cheaper elsewhere or just bundle stuff together like most do
 Del-Dredd 15 points
Did not say i was not happy, just saying it is a big hike in weight.
Considering how much they charge for postage anyway, still waiting over 3 weeks for stuff.
Glad they got a UK warehouse now, when its fully stocked and small item postage sorted I will be using it.
 Vrdetailing 78 points
I placed an order days before it opened... The car is $15 more in the uk but no customs or international postage... Wife won't let me have any more till Xmas
 TechnoFinder 126 points
its a hard cardboard box
 1983nd 10 points
It comes with standard box. It's nice and big :) 40x40x65 mm
 CrashAce 797 points
The prop adapter is actually heaver that the motor. They also have to factor in the weight of the box, outer shipping box and any padding materials used.
gmango  44 points - 7/10/2012

Are there any other prop adapters that would work with this motor? the supplied adaptors are rubbish. throws the motors way out of balance.
 Vrdetailing 78 points
I mounted my props direct..A slicht tickle out with a needle file and then a blob of ca on top. Have also replaced ones.. The ca does not stick to the shaft and comes off easily.
 ajunior 1 points
try this www.link
 RonRC 2005 points
gmango, I ordered some 2mm prop savers PRODUCT ID: 019-00501-2M. Hope this helps and Happy flying!
 ohmgnohm 46 points
just drill out the motor mount support....and chang the motor to the other side...less vibration on this way :-D
FooFilighter  38 points - 7/2/2012

Can i use this three blade prop ? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem
.asp?idproduct=23460 ??
 Vrdetailing 78 points
Yes you can...
 FooFilighter 38 points
it something change? more thurst, more amps,? anything?
 alexw2150 6 points
It's a normal propeller, although if you're building a quad, I would recommend them to start of with, as HK also supply counter rotating ones

Anyone tried a 2s GWS 5030 on this motor? What's the thrust in grams? Thanks
 Massimiliano 25 points
I'm using gws 5030 with 2s on my microquad..I don't know the grams of thrust..but the microquad has plenty of power! in acro mode is incredible!

Agreed use on my quad with those props... I push the prop direct onto the shaft as the supplied fittings do not suite...
 Margo L 1 points
My GWS 5030 props won't fit on the shaft. Did you have to drill or ream out the holes in your props?

Klasse Motor.

Klasse!
