Hello to all! I know someone tell me if this device can be used for the 2 engines coaxial helicopter controrotate (to turn left and right) or twin-engine plane or boat? thank you!
I want to use this to control 2 ESC's on a toy grade boat that has twin motors and no rudder. I am assuming I can connect throttle to Elevator which will give linear movement on both channels. and the steering to aileron/rudder, which will lower one while raising the other to give me steering control. Will this work?
I anticipated that, but I figured if I calibrate the ESC only moving the throttle channel, it should be ok, but it is still going to be interesting when turning. I have a feeling I have to set the DR or endpoints for the steering channel pretty low, or the boat will turn too fast or even reverse one channel which we don't want. I have searched online for a similar project, but could not find any.
It would work also if you could programm your transmitter to mix 3 channels(like helis somehow).
I have just tested on my HK-T6A V2 and connected as follows :on the 1st channel - the left ESC(like ailerons),on the 6th channel - the right ESC(like pitch)and finally i'm able to open throttle from my 3rd channel's joystick and change the motor's speed left/right from the 1st channel's joystick.
If I want to use a programming Tx, then what is the point of using this? I want to use this with a cheap RTF 2.4 Tx. I have a 9x with ER9x and can do anything I want, but don't want to drag my 9x to the pond for a boat that is essentially a kiddie boat and a retrieval boat.
Dear mate shahram72,i have suggested you to program your transmitter as a better solution in order to avoid the throttle calibration issue and possible interference,as rightly mate Carlos J mentioned above.
With my HK-T6A V2 the V-tail mixer works ok,but with an older 27mhz 4ch transmitter, interference is causing interuptions in operation.
However, you can give it a try,as the cost is really rediculous.
Overall, I am slightly displeased with the Turnigy V-Tail mixer, despite its low price. It has few issues not mentioned in the description:
1. The mixer introduces a delay in servo response. With an analog PPM receiver the delay is tolerable (in the order of 0.1 s), but with a Corona DSP-filtered receiver - RP6D1 - the delay is unbearable, in the order of half a second.
2. The mixer produces jerky output. Most likely, this is due to mixing not performed every PPM cycle, but maybe every 5th or 10th PPM cycle. This is not always critical to flight control, but unpleasant, and probably taxes servos more.
3. The mixer generates unwanted RF interference, which considerably reduces range with less sophisticated FM/PPM receivers. E.g. a range check with a collapsed TX antenna is reliable from 15 steps at most, rather than 40 steps, as usual with the same analog 35 MHz receiver.
with the HK-T4Av1 transmitter, TG9e servos on a skyfun it works fine. Thanks for the review!
(when I hold the plane in my hands I notice the jerky output. When I move the sticks, the servos goes where it should go, in the same time but travelling mm by mm rather than smooth travel.)
Follow up to Volo's post: The other thing that will cause range loss is a BAD ESC. Go look at my posts and video for the Hobbyking 10A 1A UBEC ESC, watch the damn thing explode on the bench in the video there also, do NOT use cheesy Chinese ESCs in your models, it will whack your range and cause servo glitching on the ground and in flight. If this item still doesn't work with a decent Thunderbird 9 or Phoenix 10, toss it.
Volodymyr:
>>The mixer produces jerky output. Most likely, this is due to mixing not performed every PPM cycle, but maybe every 5th or 10th PPM cycle.
Its more likely to be caused by the rx sending simultaneous servo pulses. Cheap mixers read one pulse then wait for the next, so on a rx which sends pulses simultaneously (Frsky etc) the mixer only picks up every alternate frame if it works at all. I got around the problem by driving my own mixer with CPPM.
Cheers
Phil
TX mixers sould have more precission than this mixer, but this can be a good idea for use after a stabilization system that has not included V tail or flaperon mix.
should work no problem. that's the point of this unit* allow you to mix two channels without need of doing it in radio or if your radio doesn't do mixing.
I'm have no problems with mine at 6v, but I am at 4.8V don't go over 9V though you'll fry it. I found out the hard way, and had to order a new one. warranty doesn't cover incidental damage.
Yes you can Phil. I use it for thrust vectoring, and I use a Futaba 4channel On my scratch built twin rotor prototype. I actually use 2 of these. 1 to vector thrust from engine neycells, and the other for differential rotor speed so I can slant it while using 2 rotors in a side by side configuration, kinda like the scorpion gunship in Avatar.
Hi I bought 5 of those. I wanted to use Gyro and have no mixing coming out of the TX but done by the mixer on the plane. On all 5 of them the precision feels wrong I could feel the steps but its like if there was 10 steps up and 10 steps down. When I would do a circular movement on my TX stick the servo would get confused... from the high quality of the reviews I assume I am doing it wrong? the problem is I can feel un-precise steps slow reaction, on all 5 of them so its not a 1 off malfunction. any suggestions?
I have fell this same low precission steps with Corona MG929 servos, but it works well with JRNES standard servos. I think my 929 servos was wrong because a heli crash with them and i have order new Corona MG939 servos to replace them. I have not probe with them yet. I will tell you wen i do, but i think the mixer fails with some type of servos and wors well with other, i don´t know why.
Thx J.Ubeda for the reply I have tried only with Digi servo, I will try with more. but in fact I use expensive servo and I dont want to change them around because of a $2.95 mixer, i will buy the better mixer and see if different.
Think that, if you have a good radio TX it can have 2048step precission or more. Compared to 200step of this mixer, you must see a notable diference on servo moves betwen use or not through this mixer.
I not knowed if servos have 300 or more steps...i only knows that my radio have much more resolution when connect servos directly to receiver than when connected through the mixer. You can see steps when use mixer, but when directly connected to receiver, you see a smooth movement.
weight is only 4g then why 35g ?????????
i agree that the additional weight is for packaging but i am ordering in a big parcel so why can they print the actual weight??????????????????
mine did not come with the manual, and it weighed a lot less than the stated 35g. the plastic bag was lighter than the mixer. (I ordered two, both came with NO printed manual, I got ripped, seems like HK does this from time to time.)

The mixer works good, but the servo's are shaking (moving) a little bit when they are activated.
I was using the Robbe Futaba FP-R115F receiver and Turnigy 533175 servo's (also from HK).
Batt. = 4 x 1,2 V / 2300 MAh
Transmitter is a Futaba T4YF (35 MHz)
unfortuatly the servos are shaking more heavy than expected. I think it will not work with digi-servos.
the 200 Steps are to less resulution for a smooth servo moving.
Here is a video link:
*******vimeo****/19889181
the small one in the front is an analog servo (HS56HB), the bigger one is the Hextronik D-MG 16
I see no reason why it should not. I think the electronics are simple enough to be rather voltage-resistant (unless you plow through it with 12V of course :) )
I use these for deltas on my 6 channel set with computer only mixing. That way, I set all models the same, trim uniformly, and I can get away with not having model memories. They make the servo move a little noisier, but are fine otherwise.
Could this mixer be used to mix aileron and rudder on a conventional airplane with decent results for coordinated turns? That is using standard 9g servos.
i tried the combo of ailerons and rudder and it just doesnt work out right. but that is only for me i tried it on my dynam hawk sky. when attempted to turn the plane just stalled and was dangerous flying. but thats just my experience.
This can't work technically because once you banked into a turn, you can release the aileron and keep the turn banked by applying rudder only - so basically rudder and aileron are totally independent from each other and therefore cannot be mixed properly for your purpose
I think only the puls wires need to go through. You could solder the power wires for your servo's (red+ black- ) target=_blank>v-tail module I think this should work.
xylonite, your BEC will determine the max amps. This works by changing the low-power control signals. As hieliew says: if you have REALLY powerful servos, that overload the traces on this mixer, you can solder the red and black wire separately.
Has anyone successfully used this to control "Tank like control" I mean 1 motor on each side where going straight require the motor on each side to go at the same speed? Thanks
I accidentally bought two of these: One from HK and another from a reputable unnamed company and I have to say HK came out ahead on this product for quality. I have attached a photo www.link as proof. You can see the competitors pins are bent and if you look closely you can see they used a sharpie to label the negative pin on the shrink wrap. Overall win for Hobby King!

This mixer is cheap and works as expected. It comes with a user manual, but it is very easy to operate. The wires have a length of about 20cm (including the plug). If you cannot mix channels with your transmitter, this item is what you need to operate V-tail aircrafts. For the price you can't be wrong !
mixer tres utile pour avion a aile delta quand on a une radio bas de gamme sans mixer. Je l'utilise sur un rafale en depron et une funjet. fonctionnement sans faille. c'est un composant de confience qui ne vous laissera jamais tomber

This Mixer is Excellent, it is very smooth and responsive, more important it work with my E-sky Gyro, I try the "Blue-arrow nano V-tail mixer"and it did not work with the Gyro (the blue-arrow did work w/o the Gyro but is not as smooth) but this one did and in a excellent way, I really recommend this Mixer because it responsive and smooth operation, low weight, low price and gyro compatible, I give a 5 star. I used for a flaperon setup in my cessna

This is a great little mixer. I used a couple of them for a project of mine that enables me to have much more control than I could have had with just the mixing on my radio.
They are very tiny and easy to work into a model. They are a bit jumpy, however you can't beat the price. Thats why I still give it 5 stars. If you are looking for something really smooth I'd suggest a more expensive mixer. But for the size and price they can't be beat.
