H-king High Performance Racer Series - MXSR Kit w/Servo

The unique and quite brilliant Hobbyking Racer series has been developed with two things in mind....high performance and massive amounts of fun!

The good looking airframe is made from super tough EPO foam and is heavily re-inforced with CF rods, each version is nicely finished in an authentic color scheme. One of the first things you notice with this series is the nicely designed modular construction, the wings and horizontal stabilizer literally snap together making assembly and parts replacement simple and fast. No glue is required for assembly, the vertical stabilizer and tough under-carriage simply screw on and the servo's have been pre-installed. When you look around these brilliant models, you can see that they have been built for performance, both in terms of speed and aerobatic capability, the control surfaces are all fully hinged and the wing/empenage mount are heavy duty to cope with High G maneuvers. This great priced ARF version allows you to use the power train of your choice, offering huge potential for all you speed freaks!

I put a Nano-Tech 3S 2200 and it is still WAY tail heavy. The motor is a Turnigy 2836 2200kv. and I put a 6x4 prop on it. Anyone else witness this thing's hunger for nose weight?
 Peter 3 points
...it took 40g (8 US nickels) placed as far forward as possible to balance on CG.
 Bugsmasher 72 points
I have basically the same set up as you and mine seems balanced. I have a solid aluminum spinner and a 6 inch prop on it. I have the esc as far forward as possible. I still haven't flown mine yet but the balance seems good.
 OzBlueDragon 37 points
Peter I've run a 1600mAh NanoTech in mine and it was perfectly balanced. Flew like a scolded cat too! Have you flown yours yet?

I am a "pretty good" beginner. If you tame the throws, is this thing "easy" enough to fly? How slow will it fly? How susceptible to wind? How are the stall characteristics? Anyone try using "flaperons" to slow it down for landing?
 Bugsmasher 72 points
I built mine but I haven't flown it yet. With tame throws I don't expect it to be too difficult. I set mine up with flaperons. The servos wires were long enough I didn't even need to put extensions on them. If you have the extra channel I would recommend it.
 Peter 3 points
cool, thanks for the response. Let us know how she flies.
 OzBlueDragon 37 points
This is an advanced pilot's plane only mate. Not for even a good beginner. It's super twitchy and likes speed not slow flying. I would recommend trying a T28 Trojan warbird for a good low wing starter or even the DuraFly Monocoupe for a sports high wing. Better you get some air time and practice rather than crash my friend. Hope this helps *)

What motor for some great speed you recommend guys using 3 and 4s batts thanks
 Gary 3001 points
You could try the Turnigy Park 480-1320 with a 3 cell pack or possibly the Turnigy D2836-9-950 with a 4cell pack.
 OzBlueDragon 37 points
Shaun this thing is fast out of the box! No need for a motor change just run a 4cell Li-Po!

What motor mount do I get for this plane??
 justice 579 points
carl, stand offs like the type gas engines use are best, just measure the distance you need and order your stand offs to suit, sometimes you cant get the exact size you need, so get the ones closest you need,(usally shorter)and pack with washers till desired distance is reached.

Motor mount is a standard firewall type ready to accept an X-Mount motor.

I just finished building my MSX-R. My set up is a 2200mah 3S Nano-Tech battery, a NTM Prop Drive 28-36 2200KV / 696W motor, and a HobbyKing 40A BlueSeries ESC. I used the stock prop which may be a bit too much for it but I really can't see having wide open throttle for more than 2-3 seconds at at time. Some people say it needs a 4S battery but with my 3S set up the power is incredible. I haven't flown it yet but I think once I have a feel for the plane I will be able to hand launch it vertically with the power it has. I bought the MSX-R over the Edge and S-Bach because I liked the look of it and it was cheaper and had a slightly lighter shipping weight. As for assembly, it all snapped/screwed together in just a few minutes. I'm not sure I like the joining of wing to the fuselage though. It has two screws at the front of the wing but only one at the rear. It's probably strong enough but I did have thoughts of the wing separating from the fuselage during high negative G's. The motor fit perfectly on the firewall mount with the NTM accessory pack and no modifications were needed. I used the spinner with the accessory pack rather than the plastic one that came with it and the prop lined up perfectly with the front of the cowl. My plane came in at 730 grams which is about 90 grams heavier than advertised. I think the wing loading is a bit high but I've more than made up

for it with power. I would have preferred it came without servos so I could have installed my own but all it all I'm pleased with it. I'll post a flight reviewed eventually.
