The Edge 540 V3 has to be one of the best looking race & performance planes ever built but make no mistake, the Hobbyking Edge has been designed with one thing in mind, extreme 3D aerobatics!
The quality of this Edge is simply as good as it gets, the airframe has been constructed to keep the flying weight minimal but strong enough to take the punishment of extreme aerobatics, the superb quality covering has been expertly applied and for the final touch, the cowl, canopy and wheel pants are finished in a deep gloss paint. The hardware is excellent & also chosen to keep flying weight to an absolute minimum and of course the model features plug in wing & CF wing tube as you would expect for easy transportation.
The H-King Edge 540 V3 performs every inch as good as it looks, naturaly it makes for a great sport plane but it would be fair to say that hardcore 3D is what the Edge has been designed for. The precision of the airframe, stunning looks, top line quality and amazing feather weight specs make the Edge 540 V3 the must have plane for all aerobatic and 3D pilots!
Features: Amazing looks Top quality construction and covering Easy and fast to build Ultra light weight but strong airframe Superbly finished Stunning 3D capability Quick field assembly, easy to transport
Requires: Your own 4~6 Channel TX/RX 35mm Brushless Outrunner Motor 40A~50A ESC 4 x Digital High Torque 9g~12g servo 2200mAh~3300mAh 3s Lipoly Battery 50mm Spinner UBEC (Optional)
I would use 60A,not necessary for beginning, but alows you to switch to 4s in the future(if needed)and bigger prop (f.ex. 13x7). 3548 motor. Then will be a monster :o)
On the last picture i see there are only 3 pushing rods, I think 2 for the aileron and 1 for rudd or elevator. Is the rudder or elevator pull pull? does someone maybe have a picture of where the servos are at the tail?
Thank you
Has anyone had any CG issues or evevator flutter with this mdoel?
I had my maiden of this model tonight but it wasnt the best.
Firstly i was surprised to find even with my battery as far BACK as i can on the battery shelf i still needed 30g on the tail to make it near? Does this sound right?
Back to the maiden, it flew ok but acts a little tail heavy? even though a static CG test proves nose heavy?
The main issue though was a evevator flutter? This happened twice i noticed, not at fast speed either.
Setup: NTM motor as recomended above, HK 929MG servos as recomended, 50A speed controller and 3200 3S Lipo, at full throttle it pulls 44A and 500W power.
thanks
Andy
i moved the battery tray rearwards ran a 2200 4s good balance. before it was all over the place balance wise with a 3s it was a bit slow 35 42 1000 kv 40 amp esc 13/5 prop
Mine just broke the elevator and horizontal stab yesterday. I rebuild with lots of carbon fiber to reinforce it. My CG was great from the begining. Every model, you will have perfect CG on the first 1/3 from the leading edge. If you dont modify your stab, don't fly fast! Regards
I do like to see hk coming out with some bigger 3d planes. The 3 hole cowl is UGLY! Make a v4 replacement. Maybe it's just the picture, but the wings seem really far forward, like a pattern bird. The wing cord doesn't seem very long either. Hmph, guess I'd have to fly it to find out. Funny, I see a few things copied from my 3dhs edge, it wouldn't surprise me if they were made in the same place, or by the same parent company in China.
I would like to see some of HK's 3d planes in the hands of really capable 3d pilots. See what they have to say about quality items like wing rock in harries, ease of certain moves, etc. A few good reviews like that and these things would fly off the shelves.
Check the Domin8trix video section, they are the same plane, you will see some difference on the engine cowl, canopy and wing tips, the rest is the same! You will see that is a verry 3D model, very nice video there! Regards
**** is made in the us. As a matter of fact they just moved from Fredericksburg tx to Indiana. I do see a few things on HK extra 330 that look better built than my **** extra 330. Makes me inclined to purchase HK edge 540 other than **** an slick.
This engine is to big for this plane. Don't use easy mach, try the 35-42 or 35-48 SK3 or just SK, they are the best. You can use from 12x6 to 14x5 prop, will climb vertical!
Hi I am very confused about fitting the motor. I order as recommends the 35-42 1000kv ntm. I also ordered a 50mm prop spinner to the shaft size of the motor, also the accessory pack for the motor. But the shaft comes out the back of the motor, if I use the proper drive that screws to the motor body I cannot use the prop spinner? So to fit the prop spinner I need to somehow reverse the shaft? Is this easy? It looks like there is no flat on the other side of the shaft for the grub once reversed? Thanks Andy
Gibbon reversing the shaft is done the same way as replacing the shaft. There are videos all over the place just search them. You remove the c clip and undo the grub screw. Remove the outer can and shaft. Use a soft metal drift to drift out the shaft. Replace it the way you wish. So yes it can be done. I hope this helps.
for sure the front end of a msxr, very simalar in colour to the slick, though the slicks I have seen have stars on the main wing. though it is a good looking plane, and I dont even like 540's!
On the contrary, I like 540's and hate the look of MXSR's. I just don't like the way the air holes on the cowling stick out. I am in love with the trim scheme on this one though. I may just have to get one!
So if Torque buys this plane that will be his first real plane outside of a ultra micro foamy?
Ha funny one.
Anyway, I do like it but would like to see someone actually do some 3D tumbles and blenders with it before I buy this one.
Have you watched Dean fly it yet. It is sad that they cut it off, but he did do a blender in the video. Also, what's the problem with UMX foamies? They are great flying airplanes. You really should get one and you'd know exactly what I'm talking about.
I just bought one but I think the three holes in the cowl look ****. Hopefully the spinner and prop will detract attention from these eyesores, if not, may well have to investigate a replacement cowl...
Anyone got theirs yet guys? I paid for mine on the 5th feb and it says its my $215 order is split across multiple warehouses and not yet on its way to me in the UK...

Amazing airplane! Verry 3D capable. Flys very well, perfect finishing, bether than expensive and famous brand models. I have the Domin 8 Trix and is almost the same plane, if you take a look on the tail you will see that is the same, but still beautiful and very fun to fly! Soon I'll show some videos.

Very nice looking plane, well packed etc. Went together easily and instructions are straightforward. The plane few beautifully the 1st two flights, but on the third flight just after take off and on the downwind turn, the stab broke clean at the fuselage. I was very impressed with the way the plane just rocked over on it's back and I cut throttle and basically landed inverted in the grass. The only damage sustained other than the stabilizer was a broken wooden prop. If you buy this plane, please reinforce the stabilizer.

purchased this little beauty 2 weeks ago and have had 10 flights..the only thing ill pick on is the elevator and the joining spar between both sides.. shocking and way to thin and mt friend has the same plane different colour scheme and his elevator snapped 2 flight due to weekness..i ended up cutting the film back and re-enforcing the top with 10cm 4mm wide 2mm thick off flat carbon seems to handle higher g moves but still wouldnt trust it at speed seems to flimsy and not worth flying fast knowing it might snap and end in a ball off wood...i went with the suggested setup ntm 1000kv motor and has heaps off pull..im using a turnigy 45 trust esc with a 11x6 prop and its right on the border in amp. im also using a turnigy 2200 4s 40c and fits under the spa perfectly and keeps weight down..overal a great flier and looks fantastic and very responsive in the air..hope that help
This plane is excellence. Fly very stable, I had setup with 3548 1000kv motor, 4S 3000mAh 30C battery, 13x6 propeller 85A ESC.

Lost stab with elevator when exiting from the dive, and failed to find it in the grassy field (nevertheless it has landed smoothly and safety). Maybe poorly glued it, but anyway the place where it is attached is rather weak for such loads, needs to be fastened.
Anyway, now I'm going to make a new one, can anybody send me its dimensions? Length and width of elevator and stab.
Thanks in advance.
