The DFS Habicht (Hawk) was a fully aerobatic glider that was designed in Germany in 1936, in fact in the same year, 4 of these amazing looking Gliders were used to great effect in entertaining crowds attending the Olympic Games. Praise for the flying qualities of this superb and very distinctive looking gull-wing glider came from many pilots, perhaps the most famous being Hanna Reitsch.
This Habicht is a stunning scale glider, combining quality and classic good looks with excellent flight characterstics. The finish and construction of this glider are simply amazing, the supplied hardware is also of the highest quality. The model features a tough blow moulded nylon composite lightweight fuselage, plug in wings, hatches for air brakes in the upper wing, pull/pull rudder and so on. This H-King Habicht is an attractive and scale/vintage sport glider offers the scale glider pilot a truly superb model that is bound to draw admiration and attention wherever it is flown.
Can someone PLEASE explain why they made a 2.4 Meter AND 2.6 meter version of this plane? What's the point? I ended up with the 2.4 Meter version because i didn't understand that the color determined the WingSpan!?! The controls discription are the same, the fuse on the 2.6 is longer which for such a small difference in W.S. doesn't make much sense. It just makes me wonder about the design intent of the two sizes or are they really two versions of the same plane with one being more scale or slope orientated or ???
Out of the box i think the plane looks pretty nice. I think the design of the elevator linkage is questionable over the long term. PLEASE USE LOCK TITE for this if you stick to the original design.
PS
Below someone talks about needing lots of nose weight. This is VERY TYPICAL for SCALE gliders. This is because they have a short nose due to them being designed to have the weight of a human sitting up front. The more liberty you take by streching the nose to keep the balance weight low, the more you will loose the Scale lines of the orginal design.
Hello Ivan,
This is because some material don't have software related. Another possibility is use a different browser: Internet Explorer/Mozilla/FireFox/Google
Someone can tell me were it is possible to find the eletric motor for this Glinder.
I like the model, but I desire to have the motor and I am not able to find the Item.
Many tanks for your answer.
Hello Francesco
not a good idea: this glider is alreday very heavy just as a glider. So if you add motor ESC and battery you will add at least 600g. This will no more glide at all! This bring you to 3kg total weight or about 60g/dm2
Hope this help.
Enjoy flying
Hi Christ/Francesco. The glider needs 500g of lead in the nose to balance so instead of using lead use a BL motor/ESC and Lipo. Therefore not any heavier. The lead is just dead weight, the motor/LiPo rather more useful!
Hello Strato (Hello Francesco)
OK this is then a good idea. I didn't know the plane was so badly design that it needs 27% of its weight just to balance. However, I confirm that it can not be a good glider (or any at all) with this kind of weight, at least with a Clark Y 61 wing profile
Enjoy Flying
Really like the look's, but it is heavy, hope it will fly. It needed 500 grams of lead in the nose to balance. I used dual batteries and lead, it feels like a brick. Built per the instructions, the overall weight is 3750 grams (not 2300) with the recommended servos. I am looking for lots of wind on the slope.
