P-40N (Green) Giant Scale 6s w/flaps, lights & retracts 1700mm EPO (PNF)

The P-40 Warhawk saw action in many theatres in WW2, including the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Pacific where it was used as both a fighter and more successfully as a ground attack aircraft. Most famously, the P-40 was used by the Chinese Flying Tiger squadron flown by US pilots, the success of this squadron against the Japanese airforce in China, even against the feared Zero, made them household names around the world.

This P-40 Warhawk is simply huge for a foam model! Being EPO, it is as tough as you would expect but at the same time, the moulded detailing is simply amazing. Despite it's size, this Warhawk should be easy to transport with it's removable 1pc wing and removable tailplane. The plastic moulded part details, like the very scale exhaust stubs, 3 blade prop/spinner, bomb cradle, .50 Cal machine guns, cockpit detail just go on and on and make for a stunning scale model.

The list of working features is equally impressive, pre-fitted split flaps, pre-fitted nagivation lights, superb twist and turn electric retracts that feature sprung legs and large rubber tires which like the retracting tailwheel, are also pre-fitted. The landing gear is linked to a sequencer for the U/C doors for that final scale touch. We have been extensively involved in the development of this stunning P-40N and the end result is a not just a scale model to be proud of but also a superb flying model that looks every bit as good in the air as on the ground. This P-40 is a must for warbird fans and is so easy to fly it is also a great choice for the intermediate pilot looking to move up in scale, as the saying goes "the bigger they are, the better they fly" and they don't fly any better than this beauty!

Mr HK My P40 has faulty RH retract. Please send me a replacement. Returning mine will cost more than simple replacement of the part. Regards Jimbo

Does it come with all the decals and roundels pre applied or is it just green. I ask because the RAAF flew these and it looks great with the flying kangaroo on the side (technically red dot but I dont wanna be mistaken for a japaneese and shot down by my neighbours haahah)
 Coffeebean 6 points
Sorry, yes. this is how ONE plane came from the factory. It was to celebrate the 15,000th plane to be built. I don't know what possessed HK to offer this thing! why not include the decals and let us put them on?

Hi, can I use a 6s, 5000mah in this model, or are the 5000mah to large?
 Strussen 208 points
I think, that there's lots of space inside this huge P-40!
 Mar11 2000 points
a 6s 5000 will be perfect for this plane .. cause its sooo tail heavey so you need a huge battery to get COG correct... enjoy
 Jack 1 points
4000 - 5000 ma batteries, no problem getting the c.g. ideal with the battery bay it has. I own one, 12 great flights. Socked in with weather now. Jack

 KaosKane 1429 points
It works for me if i add the Retracts as well
 Mar11 2000 points
you will get the bonus after you buy the plane and pay for it.. i got them..
NOt like what Kaoskane said.. you cant use the points in the same order..
 Mar11 2000 points
no need to add the retracts you will get the bonus 29 both ways !

hi is this 1700mm p40N available in the ipswick uk warehouse if not can it be shipped to norfolk uk, if so how much is shipping, thank you gary
John  16 points - 10/22/2012

Has anyone actually ordered this plane? Added the item to cart but there's no way to add or request the metal trunnion retracts. Live Chat rep responds with "It will need to be settled by store credit" when I asked for product ID for the retracts. Bizarre! Any one from HobbyKing reading these discussions? Your product description and product video indicates that one can get metal trunnion retracts but no one seems to know how to specify how I order them.
 stephen 18 points
John, if you go to the ACC icon ( just under"add to cart" on the screen you will find the retracts. :-) Steve
 Mar11 2000 points
the retracts are PRODUCT ID: 246000008
John  16 points - 10/22/2012

Ok, how do I pick the upgraded metal trunnion retracts? Are they automatically included in the order or do I add them separately. If I have to add them separately which ones do I select?
 BARRY 5 points
Hi John I sorted this one out with the online chat after i had ordered mine online a day previous. The operator assured me that they came with the model and sure enough they did. I have however modified mine slightly and changed the M3 grubs to M4 to get more torque on the key when fixing them in. In addition, you may find that extra screws are required on the brass collar. If anyone is wondering how the doors open and close, a mini servo fits in the bottom of the bay on its side, but this timely part of the job is to get the pushrod the correct length and the position from the centre of the servo without hitting the leg. If the throw is not enoygh, the wheel will hit the door on its way in and out. I overcome this by screwing another arm to a round servo disc to give it a more cam like action. It works a treat. The servos can be fixed with a servo screw and washer either end.

My two cents: There was a red P-38 named "Yippie" representing the 15,000th P-38 produced - but I wouldn't want one of those either. This is a beautifully detailed plane and very desirable - but I would never consider buying it unless those decals are optional. I want a plane the looks like it flew combat. Leave the "Tiger" decals, but take all the others off.

If they are just water stickers just put warm or hot water on it and slide them off, other than that it reminds me of those luggage that had a sticker for every place someone had visited.
 joshcarp81 140 points
well it really comes as shown this represets the 15,000 curtiss fighter.......just do a google search for it and it is on the flickr website and some others..... still ugly though

Wow, just what I wanted to buy but... Looks hidious with those decals. Please tell me the decals are not applied at the factory.. Bad marketing decision by someone. Green with the teeth I would have bought. Love all the other details and size is awesome.
 HobbyKing_Admin 8862 points
Whats not to like!?
Don't tell me as a kid you weren't into stickers or Boy-Scouts.
This is a mega cool plane and there is no need to be ashamed about a historically correct model.
 F100CUFFLINK 886 points
ANTHONY ARE YOU SAYING THERE WAS A PLANE WITH ALL THESE MARKING ON IT . I HATE TO BE THE PILOT THAT WAS FLYING IT CAUSE IT DOSE LOOK HIDIOUS.
WONDER if anyone will buy it ?
 maukabud 408 points
Anthony...*all* those countries, on the same plane? lol! What I'm thinking is that the decals/liveries come on a sheet, and you apply the scheme that you want...at least...I hope! lol! *) I notice, for instance, that there are complete markings for what would be the most popular and well known scheme: the AVG (American Volunteer Group aka "Flying Tigers") who flew for Nationalist China. If I remember rightly, the P-40 was flown also by the USAAF (of course), the RAF, free French, and Polish air forces, all represented here. (Strangely, Russia is missing...they flew a *lot* of these ships) I'd have to check on the Turkish air force...but it makes sense...don't even *recognize* some of the others...Burma perhaps...
 snappy 2294 points
weren't into Boy Scouts????? that needs clarification!!!!!!

ANTHONY, "Don't tell me as a kid ..." Correct, when i WAS A KID I might have liked this. If your target market is 12 year old boys with $350 in their piggy banks this is right on target! :-) Love the plane - not the decals. :-)
 joshcarp81 140 points
i think anthony is refering to merit badges.....
as for the plane....well it really comes as shown this represets the 15,000 curtiss fighter.......just do a google search for it and it is on the flickr website and some others..... still ugly though
 eskay 13 points
hi guys, love it ore leave it. Anyhow the plane realy existed in that sceme. Here is a historical press release: Emblazoned with the insignia of all 28 air forces with which Curtiss fighters have served during World War II, the 15,000th Curtiss fighter rolled off the assembly line at Curtiss-Wright Corporation's Buffalo, N.Y., plant Wednesday, Nov. 22. This plane, a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, marked a world's record, Curtiss-Wright having built more fighter planes for this war than any other manufacturer in the world. At the controls for first flights of the 15,000th fighter was Test Pilot H. Lloyd Child, who made aviation history in January, 1939, when he dived a Curtiss P-36 Hawk pursuit plane, granddaddy of the latest Warhawk, to a terminal velocity of 575 miles an hour. The 15,000th fighter came off the line wearing a red-nosed propeller spinner cap and the familiar grinning shark's mouth of the famed Flying Tigers who in their P-40 Tomahawks and Kittyhawks left a blazing trail of Jap planes in China and Burma. On the sides of the fighter's fuselage were 18 tiny Jap flags and 20½* little Nazi insignia, representing the score of planes downed by wing Comdr. Clive "Killer" Caldwell of the Royal Australian Air Force and Col. David Lee "Tex" Hill of the U.S. Army Air Forces, ranking P-40 Aces in the African and Far Eastern combat theaters. Colorful insignia plastering the wings and fuselage of the 15,000th plane represented the following air forces with which Curtiss fighters have served during this war: Great Britain, Russia, China, France, Norway, Canada, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, Poland, Portugal, Cuba, the Netherlands, Netherlands East Indies, Nicaragua, Colombia, Turkey, Brazil, Iran, Guatemala, Thailand, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Free French, the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers) and of course the U.S. Army Air Forces.

thanks Eskay...great info...learn something new every day! *)
 fanny 512 points
Yes thanks for that eskay.IMHO Still an awefull mess even if it is authentic I saw one of these ( full size one )fly at Old Warden UK. last year and it realy is an impresive looking piece of kit. I think of these as the "American Hurricane". A stoic thoroughbred evolved from a long line going back to the dawn of combat aviation.
 mmasters 4 points
looks like someone that collects ***per stickers to see what they can accumulate.would have bought in plain green and sharks mouth.not into woodstock
 ldm1984 117 points
I sincerly respect the history and history lession on the reality of this scheme chosen. However as a modeler who loves the P40 , has modeled over 11 differant verions in RC , I have never seen , discussed or wanted to pick this version as a model. With the skull, Tiger , and so many cool variations , its respectfully disappointing that this unpopular version was not only chosen but completed in an assembled format with all the stickers .Its a shame that it could not be completed with the sticker in the kit but not applied , and this was discussed in very early forums . Also would be less labor then taking the time to add them all by hand.
 Vic Arcudi 11 points
Even if the full scale counterpart was made to pay homage to all the counries that used it during WWII, there was no real need to deface an otherwise beautiful scale reproduction of a great historic fighter! Furthermore it would've saved the manufacturer a sh*tload of work if they'd just stuck to the sharkmouth & star & bar decals, omitting the tasteless rest.
I would've happily paid the money for a camouflaged model WITHOUT all them decals.
 Lon 92 points
n i t r o pl a n es sells the flying tigers p-40 w/ e-tracts and you add 2 servos 4 flaps its about the same size
 ldm1984 117 points
incorrect , the FMS line sold by Nitro under the Airfield brand is 55mm in span , aprox 1.75 scale , the hobby king plane has a span around 64" , or 1.65 scale

Imgine all the fun you can have, correcting all the grey beard know it alls at the club who say it is not a real plane, get ur iphone out and makem all watch the vid proving them wrong (their beards will be a waggaling lol)
SAMolzen  19 points - 6/30/2011

Whoever is deciding these kinds of paint schemes has to rethink what they are doing. A beautiful WWII Fighter ruined by decals. I'd be embarrassed to bring this thing to the field. Any of the top google images of "p40 warhawk" would be a fantastic choice for this airplane.
 mmackin 48 points
I've seen a few cars around town like this. this plane says. "I like stickers"
 Sloperdude 1309 points
It's most likely that the plane doesn't come with all the decals on it, but with a sheet instead that includes them all, so you can choose which nation's and fighter group's insignias you want to use. I recognize the American star with bars, and the British roundel, the French Cross of Lorraine on the tail, to name a few.
 mmackin 48 points
Let's hope it doesn't this is a beautiful plane without all the decoration. It would be a shame to buy such a nice machine, and have it arrive looking like that. I understand it's historical... but... I am impressed by the sheer size of this electric plane.

Too bad Hobbyking wont stand up to the big boys at the factory and tell them we don't dig the decals.
sking0369  57 points - 6/30/2011

Why model a model after a one of a kind paint scheme? I'd have to paint over the decals I didn't want.
 Tony 2 points
For all the damaged souls on this reply list let me add to Eskay's great post and say that the next day or so, Curtiss removed all but the USAAF insignias and shipped the plane to the war zone. Hobby King has created a fantastic version of a famous and historic a/c in foam. It used to take months of BUILDING & PAINTING to do what will take hours of assembly to do in this case. If you dry your damaged eyes and scroll down a bit, you'll notice they have another version. Like Anthony Hand said,"Don't let those big boys at the club pick on you!"...maybe you can bring your mommy with you to protect you!!! What a bunch of crybabies! By the way Hobby King,I received my 1400mm J-3 Cub...you did a great job on that one too!

Cool! Glad to hear that HK removed the decals. I didn't see one in the listing. I love the lines of the P-40 but that would'nt have been the version I would have done..

Thanks for noting that. I see the 15000th P-40 on the cowl, but hoped you could add your desired decals. I will get the the silver P-40, or wait till HK comes out with another scheme. The rate they are coming out with new products is amazing. Let's hope for a B-29 or a good size Hawker Hurricane etc.

Just got the bird, looks nice. I think it's best to remove the paint where the glue should be applied because the paint easaally pealed of. I use ordinary scotch tape to remove it. I don't use the supplied glue, it was only good for paint remover.
