Mig-29 Composite 2 x 68mm EDF 960mm (ARF)
Mig-29 Composite 2 x 68mm EDF 960mm (ARF)

The Mig 29 was designed in 1970's Soviet Era Russia as an answer to the F-15 Eagle. Known also as the "Fulcrum", this superb 4th generation Air Superiority Fighter was one of the first fighters to be able to perform the famous "Cobra" maneuver.

This gorgeous Mig 29 is finished in the colours of the Swift Aerobatic Team, the fuselage is a high gloss paint finish and the wings superbly covered to match. The wings and all moving tail are balsa construction while the fuselage is composite. Fixed under-carriage is supplied and it is also fully retract ready, meaning less time sweating with a file in your hand! There is plenty of room for Lipoly's, which is just as well with it being a twin and two high performance fans are also supplied.

Just like full size Mig, this EDF jet is designed for high performance, it is capable of blisteringly high speed with the right set up yet at the same time it has impressive slow speed performance, impress your flying buddies with rock steady high alpha passes and of course you have to throw in the odd Cobra! The H-King Mig 29 is one of our most impressive looking jet's yet and it flies as good as it looks!

thx for your answer, Ben maybe I'll try it once, because the ChangeSun EDF are not that expensive anyway... because the sound is so brutal and thrust, and is really a turbine sound very close
Steven  3 points - 3/31/2013

I need your help once here is 68 mm for the stock EDF, the outer diameter or inner diameter? because I would like to install the 70 mm EDF of ChangeSun make 2mm different from a lot? you in advance, thank you, for a quick response
 Ben 108 points
i believe the diametre of the the fan blade is what is measured and the acctual unit casing is slightly larger
Michel  1 points - 3/12/2013

can i fly it with a real turbine
 gsantos 257 points
With a small turbine like a Kolibri yes it could but you have here more efficient jets for that as the viper jet. Search on youtube for "funjet colibri noras" for see the power of that.
 Podolsk 52 points
Suitable turbine L u c k f l y LFE_02, diameter 60 length 150, 300g weight, thrust 2000g, fuel kerosene, to 2ps. Hope this helps.

Retracts possible?
 H-KING_SCOTT 5161 points
Yes they are, have a look at some of the new sets in particular.
 Andrew_1967 27 points
Hi Scott. You may be able to save me a lot of time scouring the pages? Any idea on a set of OLEO legs that would be the correct length / weight please. I already have a set of ESR's for it (PRODUCT ID: TGY-DSRA), but the legs would be too short, and the product description doesn't give the diameter of the leg pin (I can't get them apart without destroying the grub screws / threads!). Any help would be great Cheers Andy

not even close to Sebart, size, weight, maerials, thrust vectoring, power set-up. Don't mislead potential customers. It is was it is.
 ESPIE 101 points
Not even close in pricing too, indeed ? *-)
Xenon [RU]  10 points - 12/12/2012

I wonder, will it fly with FPV load of 200-250Gr? :)
 Ek-trician 308 points
No, too heavy, all to want to put in this thing is POWER!
 ESPIE 101 points
The plane seems to be really heavy, but i don't think as EK-Trician this would be a problem if you well power it. Instead, this will consume more power and you'll be facing a higher landing and cruising speed which is not really the goal for an FPV flier...

I would really like to see this plane in the US warehouse as well. Shipping is a bear on this one.

Hi, could you send me a manual on my e-mail: lamerq*mail.ru

Is a 70mm edf unit fits in this plane.
 steven 1 points
yes they will fit. and I find on dual edf's that you need to have counter rotation on the edf's . meaning one turning clock wise and the other counter clock wise. this gives you a major jump in thrust.
 Carnard 105 points
You need no counter rotation. A EDF produce no angular momentum.
 chareyre 5 points

Done 3 flights with mine Mig, used the 68mm dps motors 4cell and installed lander tec mig 29 el retract. total weight is around 3500 g with 2 3300 4c nanotech packs. flies really well, but elevator needed to be trimmed up alot.
 Kellyann 16227 points
Wolf-1 so do you recommend it. Thanks for the heads up too.

Did you find out definitave answer on this? I need to know as I'm setting mine up now? Todd 2 points - 7/03/2012 Can you program Elevons for the Tail and use the Wing Surfaces as Flaps? Will the Plane fly as well, better or worse?

Can you program Elevons for the Tail and use the Wing Surfaces as Flaps? Will the Plane fly as well, better or worse?
 Ek-trician 308 points
I would set-up the ailerons as flaperons, with elevons too. But bring in the mix slowly to be sure there are no problems. Start with them set as 90% elevator and aileron. Then increase the mix each flight until its handles the best.

One thing to keep in mind with RC models of most modern jet fighters, is the full scale ones have a very far aft CG. Our models don't, so the surfaces on the wing wing up acting more like elevators. So if you want to fly slow, high-AOA, you actually need to move the ailerons up. Works on my F-35. Not 100% sure on this model, but that's my experience with this type of model.
stephen  6 points - 2/22/2012

can you please advise what (metal) mechanical retracts do you have in stock to suit this model.

If anyone has the manual construction of MIG-29, please send me by e-mail ricardonolan*pop****.br. One question only, I am willing to use two 68mm EDF FAN of Ally. It is a wise decision and you guys understand that I must use the EDF that came with the model?

Not a question, so much as a warning! I've started putting mine together, and straight away, found the Tail / Elevator control bars aren't long enough to push through as the assembly instructions would suggest. Also, if assembled as instucted, there is a considerable gap between the Fus and the Elevators. I have made up some blocks (like the ones on my 90mm F-16) which will give extra strength, and allow mid mounting of control horns. The fans supplied fit directly into the inlet ducts, but if installed as per instructions, they foul on the elevator servo's. Hope this helps someone out!!

thanks ill keep that in mind when building mine i am using 2 68mm alloy fans

Just in case anyone from Hobby King is reading these???
I took delivery of this model in October of 2011, with a damaged Canopy! It's now the middle of January 2012, and I am still awaiting a replacement.
I have spent several hundred GBP with you, please can you arrange to send out the replacement as soon as possible.
I notice that at the time of posting, this kit is shown as being in stock. please consider breaking a kit, to replace broken / damaged parts, to me, and others who have had problems with models bought from Hobby King!
This is a great model, but you are being let down with very poor after sales service.
 Kellyann 16227 points
Andrew_1967 it may seem that way while you are waiting for a problem to be fixed but if you consider the number of planes HK sells the number of complaints are not to bad. Some are miss understanding but some are bad service. I just wonder how many do not complain but just fix it and fly. I hope this helps.
 Andrew_1967 27 points
Hi.
I have purchased many aircraft from HK, and to be fair, this is the first one that has had anything too badly wrong that I couldn't sort out myself! Just a bit miffed that HK Don't seem to have anything in place to help customers that need help, especially after nearly five months!I'd be grateful if anyone can suggest a good replacement canopy though?
Andrew_1967  27 points - 10/21/2011

Help!

Just took delivery of mine today (very Shiny!!) However there are no instructions at all, and loads of pieces of pre cut Plywood.
I'm sure most of it will make sense, but I could really do with a correct C of G measurement. maybe someone who alredy has one could help?

Very pretty though. Build quality seems good too!!!

Many thanks,

Andy.
 Andrew_1967 27 points
Hello again! I have just checked the "Files" tab under the model description, and someone (unknown) has posted full instructions complete with C of G measurement. Thank you to whoever did so. Watch this space, and I'll let you know how I get on!!
 Kellyann 16227 points
Andrew_1967 you are happy here but above not so much. i wish I could help.

If you don't want to deal with many plywood pieces to be glued to their places, go and buy the composite F-18 with a single 90mm fan.
 Andrew_1967 27 points
Not sure if anyone reads these very often, but if you wanted an update, the Canopy has been replaced by Hobby King, and assembly is coming along nicely (although slow!!) I have made a couple of alterations to the tail section, as mentioned before, due to the angle of the rear two mounting pontoons for the tail, I've made a hard wood block, to house the two bearings, and as the servos catch on the EDF's if you put them where recommended, I've turned them through 90 degrees, so they are now slightly outboard, pointing down (painted red, they'll not be seen!)
with EDF's now glued in place, and the motors and speed controllers also installed, I have had a test firing, and Holy Hell!! This thing is going to be quick!! The stock EDF's seem pretty well balanced, and only a little "Fettling" was needed to balance one of the fans.
Watch out for the aileron servos, as the wing section is very thin, and most servos will be too deep to instal in the wing!
Retracts are another problem, as the rear sets need to be fairly long, and the nose wheel, even longer. I'm looking at the olios sold here, and plan on fitting the Turnigy servoless retracts ("A " Series) as Ive got them on my 90mm F-16, and they seem fine! (If anyone reading this has finished? "A" I Hate You!! "B" Can you suggest something more suitable in the retract department?

Hope this helps someone?.... Anyone?.....

If you are thinking of getting one?, despite my problem with the broken canopy, this is a very nice looking, and well finished model!

I can't wait to fly it!!

Battery access looks very, very tight.

they want you to run 2 4S packs on the sides so it should be ok there is no duck work in the way this is a good size jet there is more room there then what you think ,i would run 2 3000 nanno's high C RATE give you a good run.
Ihave a fly fly F4 90MM and useing 3S 2packs 4500 for 22.2v and the batts are great but bit to heavy so try to keep it light and do the 3,000
KaosKane  1429 points - 9/24/2011

Ic for vt slow and manuverable no vt super high speed, maybee vc and shs would make wings fall of *} ... i c 2 vt types a cone over edf's exit and a x blade in the airstream.. like Martin EDF JETPACK (google it):)
which would suit best ps i tried to credit u 4 2nd answer no "credit given"
KaosKane  1429 points - 9/22/2011

Would these motors make this jet fast ??...... PRODUCT ID: LEDF-2550 Alloy DPS Series 72mm EDF unit with 2550kv Motor - 1200watt and would they fir or will the 68mm version be the biggest possible *}
 F100CUFFLINK 886 points
yes thats a great match ,but if your going to do the vector thrust you want to keep it lite as posible for speed and the metal fans are heavy but fantastic performers.
i had a couple of them and no vibrations. Make sure you have a good esc to power them and the nano lipo would work great ,i have a F4 WITH SAME Fan system 90mm and 6S 4500 nano tec 40-70c burst and works great.

Might be too big no? Stock is a 68mm, so why not stick with 68mm size? How will you get the the 72mm to fit? The )D is 4mm bigger than stock.
KaosKane  1429 points - 9/22/2011

Now i am dreaming of a vector thrust addon for this jet ?? any one else share the (realy quite small) dream of a Vector thrust composite mig 29 i have a spare VecT unit from a crashed LX saab viggen i wil be fitting this to the stinger 64 i have on the way maybee i can copy the design *}
 F100CUFFLINK 886 points
SURE ITS NOT THAT HARD TO DO extra servo for every function ,you can arm a switch on yout transmitter for the vector thrust or connect directly to the vector but be carful that you dont use high rates on takeoff ,you may loose control. i have seen vidio's of this with the setup its awsoom
 markusvt 111 points
Folks do vector with light foamies, not overweight fiberglass. Add all of the extra parts and you have little change of success. Look how tight everything on this model is.

Just ordered mine! Looks very slippery, and with a couple of 68mm air suckers installed, should make for some interesting flights. Might be worth noting that including the 7 recommended servos, two 60amp ESC's and the motors, came in at a shade under £200.00 GBP Delivered to the UK, watch this space, and I'll let you know how I get on!

Started assembling this plane over the weekend, using HK DPS series 68mm alloy fans instead of the supplied plastic units , you can unscrew the intake lip or grind it off to fit these fans . Fired up the fans this afternoon Wow!! Using a 5800mAH 4s Zippy to power both fans the power was impressive had to hold the fuse really tight it wanted to go / launch. One snag, a near disaster was that the amount of intake pressure at high throttle was collapsing in the walls of the intake ducts and the inner fiberglass lining at the duct entrance peeled off the outer wall on both intakes, had pieces of this lining broken off it would have been good night to the fan rotor blades for sure . I had to epoxy this lining back onto the outta duct which was no big deal but I can still see the walls of the ducts being sucked inwards at high throttle settings . Was about the only problem I had so far, it's an impressive looking model not really my color scheme but it looks really good with it's gelcoat like finish.
