Just got mine yesterday.

I want to use several small cut strips (in groups of 3). How have people removed the orange insolating layer from the solder points at the ends of the strips ?

S****e it off or does it melt when soldered ?

Thanks
   Viper DaSnake (32%)
They are grouped together as 3 LED's. You must cut them at every third LED. There is a line that shows where to cut. There is also solder pads on both sides of the cut point for you to connect to 12VDC. I cut open an Ethernet cable and used those wires to solder several together for my hk450 canopy. I did not have a problem with melting, I'm sure there is a limit. Just have everything ready and waiting before applying heat so that you heat them up as little as possible. They work great. On low pass flyovers they make the ground glow underneath the heli..

Just solder the allocated /- solder points. No peeling off needed.
   mongomongo (8%)
The solder points are the round copper colored ponits, no need to remove anything. Just solder on the bare copper. Be careful with heat, you dont want to ruin the 3m tape on the other side..
   tigar (46%)
Very easy to solder. just scratch the contacts with a knife and solder
   reinhardfreh (0%)
Just use the soldering iron and melt it away

Look up a "picoswitch" to use on your plane to turn it on and off using a channel on your radio/receiver.

I use this: Turnigy Receiver Controlled Switch http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8833

Does it require a seperate battery? For instance, 1 for motor/esc output & 1 for the lights only? If it sticks into 1 batt that fires the motor/esc & lights, will that burn the esc or motor or some kind? Do i need a resistor of some some sort? Please advice.
   VROOM (25%)
Just hook them to your balance plug or solder a splitter in the ESC battery leads if you want to run them off your flight pack.
No resistors, no special wire, no tricks. Its very easy.
   kf52t (-28%)
No separate battery required. Just plug and play and you don't need resistors. Very easy setup.
   pee69wee (24%)
No separate battery needed, just split after your battery.

Are these LEDs waterproof?
   AlFu (40%)
No.
It's a standard LED-strip.
But some water drops makes no odds.

If you want to get it water prove, you'll have to put them in a transparent (shrinking)tube and seal the ends.

You could use some vinegar free silicone to seal the LED-strip too.
   pee69wee (24%)
Unfortunately not.
   Wayne (12%)
no, but they are pretty easy to mount inside clear flexible tubing.

I am interested in using them as DIY home lighting. Can I assume they are all connected with resistors in place?
   magnusEl (82%)
There is one resistor for every third LED.
   alex.g (77%)
diy home lighting. can i connect them in series? what psu i need to use?
   Viper DaSnake (32%)
The strips have solder pads for every 3rd led that you can solder to, so you could buy several and solder them in series or parallel. The solder pads are just a buss bar that supply 12VDC down the entire strip.
   reinhardfreh (0%)
Yes, every third led is a resistor. For home lighting you need a 12 Volt power supply

Is there a plug at the end of the wire, and if yes what kind ?
   magnusEl (82%)
No plug, only wire.
   skyripper (23%)
there is no plug and just two wires. this is so you can cut up the stip (every three lights there is a place to solder to)and make your own lengths of lights.
   tigar (46%)
just a pair of wires
   reinhardfreh (0%)
No, there are just a plus and a minus wire

Can I plug a few lights into a reciever channel for power, like the F3A lights system?
   Alain (91%)
no, they are intend to plug directly on a 2s or 3s lipo, so it does'nt pull any current thru your BEC.
   Finecutpost (63%)
They dont seem to work on 4.8 volt but are brilliant on a 3s lipo really bright
   skyripper (23%)
these lights are best run off 3s lipo power ,you just split the power from the main battery to the lights(1) and to the esc (2)using a y cable. hope that helps.
   T3rry (-9%)
led's require half voltage to "start", so for these 12V leds, you need to give at least 6v (however closer to 12v will give better performance.)
   tigar (46%)
no. i think id needs 12v. You can do with 8or 9volts but no 5v.Use a bec or extra battery
   reinhardfreh (0%)
I dont think so. Receiver voltage is 5 Volts. This LED stripe need 12 Volts
