so i have a very random question, but i need an answer from those people who understand the actual electronics of it all... i know that the knob is just a potentiometer, but would it be possible to unsolder the potentiometer and replace it for a joystick, on the x or y axis pins... im using one you would use on like an arduino project. i need to know because i dont want to do stuff without knowing if it will work or not
The problem I have experienced before was that only a small range of the potentiometer is used on the joystick while the whole 270º* degrees are being used on this device. With an op-amp with the correct center voltage (50% supply voltage) and amplification (start with around 4x) you should be able to adjust the joystick output to replace the pot input of this device.
I own a turnig servo Tester I found it very practical and very useful in my workshop with a battery of NiCd RX normal 4.8 volts and it works great, I have also used the instructions Stated by Richard with a Speed **Control on a LiPo battery .

Yes and no. To do so you need a brushless ESC to match and a battery pack for powering the setup. As stated by Richard, you need to disable the BEC (or just pull the red wire) and power the tester with another battery (keep in mind that without the other battery for the tester, there's not going to be output, thus your setup will be non-functional)
You can control an ESC with it, but if it has a bec you need to pull the red wire out of the connector coming from the esc by lifting the little plastic tab, and you still need a battery powering the servo tester.
You do not need an external BEC. Just take the cable that you would normally plug into the receiver and plug it into the servo testers output. Power up you ESC and you're set. The BEC from the ESC will power the servo tester. I have personally done this and it works great!
Always be careful if pulling out a red wire from a connector that it touches nothing if it is "hot" or if it is the voltage of the battery. This could cause trouble if it touches the metal housing of the servo tester, for example.
Also, most servos are designed to accept CMOS level logic voltage values (0-to-3.3v) but not all ESCs will. So if the servo tester is putting out CMOS levels on the signal output instead of TTL (0-to-5v), the ESC may not detect proper signal. Worse, it may detect the incorrect signal or something odd which doesn't correspond to your output. And be careful to set the tester to manual mode and "low throttle" signal before you continue. Center point signal or auto mode (full range slew back and forth) may surprise you when the motor runs unexpectedly. Secure the motor safely and run with no prop.

You have your choice of 3 modes.
1. Manual using the knob
2. Neutral which will take your servo to it's neutral setting automatically
3. Auto which continuously cycles the servo limit to limit.
Will it replace your $100 servo tester....probably not but for everyday use it's great.
You won't be disappointed in this one.

Useful little unit, has three modes identified by three blue LEDs that will have you seeing spots they are so bright. Neutral setting is useful for getting your servo horns centered without trial and error and the third option cycles the servo continuously. A few minutes will help seat and quiet noisy gears in new servos.

Nice, simple and does the job. Has 3 servo outputs that all get the SAME signal.
Has three modes: 1. Manual - set position by adjusting knob. Good for cheking how servo controls surfaces. Just be aware, that some radios/receiveirs can issue a wider travel range, so don't rely on this tester to show your servo's maximum travel. 2. Center - for aligning servo horns. 3. Auto - scrolls servo forth and back at constant speed. One period ~= 2 seconds.

A very good Item for a low price. The neutral setting is the same as on my MPX-transmitter. It is very good to adjust your servo before installing in the model. The blue LEDs, however, are much to light. I have paste over them with a strip of tape. Then it is ok.
