If i wanted to charge batteries on the go (in a proper case) what battery could i use to power this or could i use a different contraption to charge batteries with another battery? Thanks

Can anybody reccomend the power adaptor for the iMax B6 for both UK mains with a UK plug (240 volt) and a car adapter for the field that plugs into the cigarette lighter sockret? Or would any unversal phone jack be ok? Also do I need adapter leads for a Syma quad copter batteries 3.7v 500 amh? If so which ones? Many thanks Thanks
Geoff  13 points - 5/1/2016

Yes, anything up to 6S and at 5A, it's more than adequate for a 4000mAh battery

Could i charge a 4000mah 5s 18,5v with this charger thanks!!!
 EstebanT 1000 points
Yes, you can, but thel charge rate will be less than 1C because will be limited by the maximum output power of 50W. Then, maximum charge amps will be 50W / 18.5V = 2.7A, so the charge rate will be 2.7A / 4A = 0.675, or less.

Consider buying an 80W charger. May be better for you.

Absolute beginner asking - I want to charge 1S 3.7V round cell LiPos, either singly or in pairs in series, and my input would be from a model railway transformer, so do the input and charge leads have croc. clips? And are the charging leads balanced leads? Do I need balanced leads?
 J Cramer 26 points
The charger uses a class M barrel connector for input power. It does come with power clips that you could connect to a 12v battery for example. The balance board is not the charge lead. The charge lead sends charge current, while the balance board reads individual cell voltage. You do not balance a 1S lipo, since it is just 1 cell. Charge your 1S cells in parallel, not series.

OK on the input now. On the charging side, I have tiny (52L x 7mm dia.) Turnigy lipos that have solder tags on the terminals, nothing else. They will be permanently paired in series so that I can get 7.4V, so again, do the charge leads have crocodile clips (or perhaps I can cut them and fit say, a spade connector)? What connections would I make to charge them in parallel? Thanks. P.S. to Hobbyking:The link above to the manual comes up with an error HTTP 404 message.
 J Cramer 26 points
No the charge lead is not gator clips. If you are using lipo cells with just bare tabs, I strongly suggest soldering a standardized connector into the tabs such as a T-plug, XT60, or JST. You could take the OEM gator clip leads and clip the barrel connector off to then attach a set of banana plugs to go to the charger output. Charging your cells with gator clips is risky, but that is your call.

OK, I've ordered JST connectors, so my last question: each pair of batteries will be connected permanently in series, the outer and - terminating in a JST. Am I OK to connect that to the charge leads (which I would also terminate in a JST)? You said to charge the batteries in parallel, but I don't see how to do it (absolute beginner, remember). Thanks again.
 Dennis 1 points
I've left out a ' '. I meant to say that the outer positive and negative of the battery pair will have a JST soldered to them, as you suggested.
 J Cramer 26 points
I was unclear on wht you meant in terms of 1S vs 2S. Now I see what you are saying. With your 2S configuration, you can charge the battery through your JST plug. Keeping it permanently wired in series. You will not need the balance port, as long as you turn off balance function. If you have it set to balance charge, instead of charge, it will want to see a signal from the balance port. You can toggle between charge, and balance charge by pushing the and - buttons while the charger is in Lipo charge mode.

Yep, and I also found the IMAX B6 manual elsewhere online, which says to charge LiPos in series, so I'm happy now. My project is r/c for 1:76 '00' scale model railway, which is a tiny niche here in the UK. Thanks v.m. for your most helpful and patient replies.

21 thumbs up!
Very good charger with only one problem: balancer is not accurate. Have found the problem ( 1 percent resistors used instead of 0.1 percent resistors). I am in contact with SkyRC about a possible improvement in the design.

But as said, besides the balancer incaccuracy this is a great product!

very good charger for the price, charges everything, has safety features. I 've found the reported problem of balancing lipos not too serious. I have measured differences of 0,04 to 0,05 volts (4,2 to 4,25). It is still annoying especially as the voltage exceeds 4,2. Overall I would recommend it as a first do-it-all charger

Good charger, but the balancer does not work very exactly. Overall worth the money.

I got mine about 2 weeks ago. Charges all my NiMh and LiPo's without a hitch. Very good balancer.

The discharge rate is quite slow - but sufficient. Who really needs to discharge at high rates?

Only drawback it has is that it doesn't come with it's own AC adapter. You can either connect it to your car battery or buy a power supply for it (which might not be cheap, remember we need 5AMPs at 12V!).

In any way - spend the few extra bucks and get a REGULATED adapter - it's a shame to burn out this charger.

If it came with it's own power supply I would give it 5 stars with no hesitations.

A pesar de no ser extremadamente exacto funciona muy bien. Mucho mejor que el b5 porque descarga y acepta A123.
Experiencia con LiPO 3S y 4S perfecta
