No reply so I decided to mod one of these n50A TowerPro ESCs as described by GiOT in the review section of this site fir the n50A. I replaced the 22kΩ* (223) with a 10kΩ* (103)closest to the +v supply input. I left the other one right next to it?(no instructions from GiOT) The unit started and operated on 3S. I then programmed a new function using the stick banging method. Saved that function OK. Started the motor OK - ran to full power OK. Applied full brake (having set that function) - Motor stopped very quick. Gave it full throttle again and ZAP!! MOSFET emitted large arc and the ESC died. So yes the modification does work but it's going to fry your ESC. My advice don't do it. Just run it on 4S or get a Supersimple ESC for half the price for 3S.
Bearing in mind this is the 'N' model and is really a 40A esc rated for 10mins at 40A with bursts of 50A only.
It does have a very smooth curve and can run motors at very nice low-low RPMs. The heatsink on mine was waffer thin! Also only 9 out of the 12 FETs had any thermal paste - so at least remove the heat-shrink, add some more paste and a thicker 30x30mm heatsink with a few fins - then run it on 4S with an external BEC.

Thermal Paste - Warning for n50A. I opened up a second one after modding/blowing the first one (described above) and only 6 of the 12 FETs had thermal paste! So half these babies were just going to run thermal! So I do recommend everyone remove the blue heat shrink and and PC Thermal paste on all 12 FETs to conduct the heat away from these chips an onto the heatsink plate. Then either replace the super-thin Aluminium heatsink that came with the n50A TowerPro - or add a new 30mmx30mm PC chipset heatsink with fins to increase the surface area. When you add new heat shrink bear in mind it must hold the plate down to work. I heat it enough to hold lightly - then cut away a square at the top of the fins only ( to the edge) then heat it again with a heatgun to lower the sides. Whilst its hot I bend any/all heatshrink areas down with my fingers - this gives a very tight fit for the sink-to-FETs and they all stay cool at or above the full rated current.

NOTE to all EDF users : My tests show these TowerPro 50 and 65 'N' ESC a great for low KVA and medium/low RPM systems * BUT they are NOT suitable for high speed EDF doing 50,000rpm! Repeat NOT for EDFs - I found they run upto about 28-30,000rpm OK then they have issues. This I test at all timing settings. So only buy it for 4S Props which run slower (relative to EDF) - This is a general reply to a few posts in the review section about EDF users having no luck.

I see Giot advises to replace the 22kΩ*with a 10kΩ* close to the +v supply input on the TowerPro n50A. Can anybody else confirm success with this conversion to 3S.
