***Stop Press!!***UPDATED: The Vampire now comes with upgraded metal trunnion retracts!
The DH Vampire was the 2nd jet to enter service with the RAF and was unusual for the time in that it was powered by a single jet engine, this allowed for a small and lightweight fighter aircraft, to maximise efficiency the jet pipe was kept short, hence the distinctive twin boom tail, all of these factors helped the Vampire to become the first aircraft in RAF service to exceed 500mph. De Havilland employed some techniques from the construction of the famous Mosquito, wood was therefore used in the construction of this classic jet! The Vampire broke several records in it's time and was the first jet aircraft to land on a carrier as well as being the first jet to complete a Trans-Atlantic flight, the Vampire became a huge success and served with many air forces around the world.
The Durafly Vampire is made from tough EPO foam and is superbly finished with waterslide decals. As well as looking the part, it is easy to assemble, being Plug N Fly, the EDF unit, ESC, UBEC and servo's are all pre-installed. The Vampire is pre-fitted with superb, scale-slow servoless retracts, they have a very positive lock which combined with the beefy struts and large rubber wheels, makes this jet perfect for almost any field.
Jet's are about performance and the Durafly Vampire will not disappoint, it has excellent speed and climb rate, when you combine this performance with the real presence of this model, not mention the un-canny scale-like sound, the end result is one of the most realistic jet's in this class. Where the Vampire differs from other scale jet's is that it is almost impossible to stall and has an amazing off-power glide making for a very forgiving model that is really easy to live with. Fast, stable, scale, reliable, easy to live, easy to fly with and with presence in spades, the Durafly Vampire will stand out at any airfield, ideal for aspiring jet jockeys, a must for any jet fan!

I ordered the Vampire from the UK Warehouse ( did I ?)and was charged postage from China which I duly paid. The ordering instructions are very vague regarding shipping. However my main moan is I received a letter yesterday from Parcelforce worldwide demanding a payment of £*14.58 vat and a clearance fee of £*8 a total of £*22.58. I thought that ordering from UK warehouse would include all charges? I would like to order other aircraft but object to paying an extra undisclosed sum. By the way I immediately sent an email to customer service regarding this matter but as yet have not had a reply. Or am I missing something about the ordering procedure from the UK warehouse?
It's very probable that you did order from the International Warehouse by accident. Check the price on the invoice - the price difference is about $20 but it becomes liable to VAT on both the cost and the shipping if international
It can happen that the page will flip if you aren't careful and watch it closely
Mike. Both very similar to fly. I found the 110 a little slower at full full throttle to the Vampire , but of course you dont have to use it that much ,unless you are doing loops etc .If you are an intermediate flyer , I would go for the Vampire , its a great ducted fan TRAINER. Hope this helps.
When will the new Vampire be released for sale please?? I understand it has uprated ESC and Retracts..... Great { I
had problems with my original Vampires' retracts] Can*t wait for this one .............
Sorry i can't help you but i don't think it will be to far off now,as the one they auctioned off has been over for a few weeks now.
The new Vampire will have a camo paint scheme and metal trunnion retracts plus upgraded ESC as you know,we will have to keep an eye out on the new items page at the very top of the page and i bet HK will post a video over on Youtube as well,oh and Durafly website will also let us know when it's about to be released i would of thought,i've been watching all my self as i'd like to try and get one too to go with my other two HK/Durafly EDF's,like the Sea Vixen and the first Vampire.
They are both really good to fly. The Vampire is slightly faster, has a slight tendency to dive if the wind gets on top of the wing. The Sea Vixen grooves a little more, but on a windy day can 'fishtail' a little in a cross wind. If it was a bigger model(I wish) I would suggest fitting rudders and gyro. Neither is a problem. They both take off and land very smoothly and predictably, allowing real greasers of landing if you keep a bit of power on.On take off let the speed build up before hauling it off. It's safer, and more realistic.I'm waiting for HK to release bigger versions of both. They are both part of my regular flying collection
Probably a realy dumb question, but looking at the postage table that HK provide, which one do i choose if i want to buy this? (I live in the UK)and would like to order from the UK warehouse
Anybody thought of camouflage. ? I painted top surfaces RAF pattern Green and Grey ( Humbrol 86 and 106} Looks great and DIFFERENT. Have had over 40 Flts, and no problems with Booms. Using 40 % expo on elevators and ael. Large gentle {Scale}loops
Looks like there may be a couple in stock according to the website if its correct, However you should not have to wait much more than 14 days.
I also have one on order!
Good things come to those who wait!!
If you are in the UK and order from the UK website, there will be nothing extra to pay duty wise, as the kits are actually in the UK warehouse.
The checkout is just the standard checkout page and covers all eventualities.
My first order from UK warehouse. Ordered early Wednesday arrived this morning (Friday) so no problems there. Initial inspection shows generally good quality with just a few minor problems - 1. Slight crush damage to one wing panel. 2. Some servos were not centred before being glued in, the arms can be taken off to adjust with care. 3. Main retract units are screwed to ply mounts which are glued directly to the wing underside rather than in cutouts, so the whole thing stands 6mm proud of the wing surface. Bit odd that.
FYI retract cycle time is about 3 seconds and wheels are 50mm main, 35mm nose. There is no springing, the "oleos" are dummies! More when I've put it all together.

Problems so far -
1. Supplied screws not long enough to fix aileron horns. Replaced with 10ba bolts. 2. Retracts cannot be recessed into wings, there just isn't enough depth. For now I've removed them for flying over grass, saving 180 gms in the process. 3. One wing too long for cutout, needed 6mm trimmed from rear to fit. 4. As usual the canopy magnet just isn't up to the job. Probably fit a dowel through fus. and canopy to secure.
Just waiting for some batteries from HK Germany now. More when I've powered it all up.

Just flown this Vampire,my first EDF Jet,having been flying only a year. What can i say but WOW,a highly recommended first jet.I read the blogs on RCGroups.com and moved the CG forward of the booms where the servo wires turn 90 degrees heading towards the fuselage. With a 2200 4s Zippy battery it balances slightly nose heavy which resulted in an absolute pussycat to fly. This jet just flew straight out of my hand with a gentle lob, only needing 3 clicks of down elevator to trim.I was expecting about 3 1/2 minutes of flight, but with the timer on and most of the flight at about 55pcnt throttle i got an amazing (yes i know it sounds unbelievable, but the timer on the Aurora radio is accurate) 9minutes 28 seconds...and a great big grin on my face!!!. I did reinforce the booms with 3mm round hollow carbon fibre rod,and in dives, loops and rolls she is an absolute dream, even easier to fly than the Durafly P51,which in itself is a fantastic kit.The retracts appear to be great quality, with areal positive lock machanism engaging at the end of travel.Remember to secure all the servo wires inside so they cant be dragged into the fan unit,Durafly have already thoughtfully put the cable ties in place to accomplish this.I also raised the pilot so he can see over the instrument panel, and it looks just so much better than having a midget pilot this fantastic jet.And the sound from this EDF unit is just

Brilliant model!.A little crush damage on arrival, but warm water brings it back to shape.Excellent retracts.I fly on an old WW2 concrete runway, and no probs at all.The First model have ever had i can say this about the retracts (Hanger Nine etc).Lovely to fly (Zippy 4s 3000Mah 40c is its favorite),practical to own,and comes in a treat.Simple, different,GREAT scale sound.Wife left home, but not bothered,as am sleeping with my Vampire..LOL!

Vampire now flown and I can confirm - 1. It is tail heavy. Will add 50gms to nose for next flight. 2. It has a severe tuck-under problem at speed. Up elevator appears to bend the booms DOWN so is acting like a servo tab and giving DOWN elevator. Recovery only possible by cutting power. 3. It glides very well!
