The SE5a was responsible, along with the Sopwith Camel for winning back and retaining allied air superiority from mid 1917, until the end of the Great War. It was a stable aircraft, making it an excellent gun platform, it was faster than most allied fighters, including the Spad and more importantly, it was faster than anything flown by German fighter pilots. Although available in much smaller numbers than the Camel, the SE5a was the mount of many famous aces, including Albert Ball VC, James McCuddon & Edward Mannock, it was truly a classic fighter aircraft.
The superb Durafly SE5a is a high quality and beautifully detailed Plug and fly model that is made from tough EPO foam, good quality servo's are pre-fitted throughout, as is the ESC and powerful brushless outunner motor. The SE5a is not difficult to assemble and so will be fairly fast to get into the air, that said, with a model this nice, it really is worth taking your time! As well as looking fantastic, this model is built to last and features carbon re-enforced flying surfaces, steel re-enforced landing gear, proper rubber tyres, and so on.
At 1030mm wingspan, the Durafly SE5a has loads of presense in the air and on the ground, the high quality finish and level of detail really finish off this amazing model which flies every bit as good as it looks. There is stacks of power for aerobatics, and tons of thrust from the purpose made scale prop for cruising at scale speed, combine all that prop wash with the nicely balanced control surfaces and you have a model the handles well and retains it poise, no matter how slowly it is flown. The Durafly range is top quality in every respect and this stunning SE5a is no different, so time to don your flying helmet, goggles & silk scarf and go on the dawn patrol!
Would you consider it suitable with little experience......... follow on from Bixler
Like the idea of scale flying but don't want to break. It every time
The SE5a is a very stable platform, and a great flier, you just have to bear in mind that bi-planes have a lot of drag and so off-power gliding is usually a bad idea, provided it's "flown in" for landings, it should not present a problem.
Gerardo this plane is now in the European warehouse as are most of the Durafly range of planes,if you click on Durafly range in the planes section in the search bar at the top left of the page, you will then see all the Durafly planes and what warehouse have what,i hope this helps you or anyone else looking.
Got my SE5a the other day from HK UK and she is a damn good plane, everything was there and the zip lock bags with parts was well matched up to the manual which made putting together a breeze,so well done to Scott and the team.
I have just gotten this plane a few weeks ago and i found the wire bracing not to bad at all,i suppose it's down to how good your modeling skills are,IMHO it's not hard at all.
Yeah i'd have to agree with Michael as the wire isn't had to do at all stewjw, plus it looks more scale with it on mate.

Got my SE5a from the Hobbyking UK warehouse and she is a beauty with out any doubt, the parts bags are the zip lock type and they are all labeled well and match up to the manual so putting the SE5a together was a doddle,o you get a few spar parts to just in case you lose any or what ever so thanks for that HK,just wish others would do the same, the only gluing you will have to do is just the tail feathers the rest is screws which is better IMO,If anyone needs any help on this plane or rather tips because you shouldn't have any trouble putting it together, just pop over to rcgroups as there are a few good tips on this plane there and some great photos of it as the pictures on the website don't do this plane any justice,so if you want a really good WW1 biplane then look no further as this one is one of the best out there IMO and at this price you would be silly not too, thanks for this one Hobbyking as it just shows how good the Durafly range really is,i've now got a few Durafly planes now and i'll be buying more.

Great service from UK warehouse as opposed to HKong.Model puts together easily without any adjustments.Just install RX and test motorand ESC first.I used Orange Spektrum 6 put vertically in front of servos with aerial in tube up towards gunsight.I found CG best with 1800mh Nanotech 3S but this maybe because I removed tailwheel. In any case disconnect tailwheel linkage or provide springing or expect dud rudder servo.Forget trying to fly this like a WWI biplane and let it rip on half throttle with full for aeros.I find dual rates set at 70 for ailerons and 80 for elevator are good.Mix aileron rudder 40pcnt.Only 4 stars for value as we are getting a little close to Horizon Se5 in UK.

I am sorry I meant to say to compare value for money with Parkzone SE5a but I hope you got the idea.I do not own the Parkzone model but from the specs and videos I think I prefer the Durafly version it is certainly suited to British weather.1918 videolink is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNw6gxDZ3qo

I have now got this SE5a off of Hobbyking UK and the service was really good and fast, after it left the UK warehouse it was on my door step the following day so thats a big thank you from me HK. This is an easy model to put together and they even give you little numbered bags with the parts in,so it makes it really easy to work out what screw goes where and so on. I have this SE5a and the PZ one and this is the better out of the two in every way,the Durafly one looks more scale what with the rigging wire and the flight performance too. I use the blue 3s Turnigy 1800mah batteries in mine which fits in just fine and i have also tried the nano-tech 2200mah batteries which do fit with a tight squeeze,so i like to use the 1800 only because it's easier. Top plane which is great for them Sunday afternoon flights when you just want to take life nice and slow.
