Durafly SE5a 1030mm (PNF) (AUS Warehouse)

Durafly SE5a 1030mm (PNF) (AUS Warehouse)
Durafly SE5a 1030mm (PNF) (AUS Warehouse)

The SE5a was responsible, along with the Sopwith Camel for winning back and retaining allied air superiority from mid 1917, until the end of the Great War. It was a stable aircraft, making it an excellent gun platform, it was faster than most allied fighters, including the Spad and more importantly, it was faster than anything flown by German fighter pilots. Although available in much smaller numbers than the Camel, the SE5a was the mount of many famous aces, including Albert Ball VC, James McCuddon & Edward Mannock, it was truly a classic fighter aircraft.

The superb Durafly SE5a is a high quality and beautifully detailed Plug and fly model that is made from tough EPO foam, good quality servo's are pre-fitted throughout, as is the ESC and powerful brushless outunner motor. The SE5a is not difficult to assemble and so will be fairly fast to get into the air, that said, with a model this nice, it really is worth taking your time! As well as looking fantastic, this model is built to last and features carbon re-enforced flying surfaces, steel re-enforced landing gear, proper rubber tyres, and so on.

At 1030mm wingspan, the Durafly SE5a has loads of presense in the air and on the ground, the high quality finish and level of detail really finish off this amazing model which flies every bit as good as it looks. There is stacks of power for aerobatics, and tons of thrust from the purpose made scale prop for cruising at scale speed, combine all that prop wash with the nicely balanced control surfaces and you have a model the handles well and retains it poise, no matter how slowly it is flown. The Durafly range is top quality in every respect and this stunning SE5a is no different, so time to don your flying helmet, goggles & silk scarf and go on the dawn patrol!

Its a hard decision ? Should I buy the Durafly SE5a or the ******** SE5a ? They both look great and seem to fly much the same ?
chris  6 points - 5/12/2013

Meant RX,are you meant to put it in before attaching wings or can it fit in battery area
chris  6 points - 5/12/2013

You must get this plane! It is the best model you would ever dream of owning both in scale and flight ease! The package was detailed and came with instructions. The quality of this plane far surpasses anything I've seen before! It takes more than the 40 minutes estimate to assemble (Heck where did that come from?) Mine took a good day or two but when your done you reap the rewards for sure. I maidened mine with some Pre-Biplane experience mainly on Tiger moths, and must admit this fly's better (and more stable) than any of those! The moment I taxied and took off it was a great 1917 WW1 thrill. It just looked made for the sky the moment it went up. I sighted All my trims as level as possible before flight and maiden was a flying success! I even got her way up high cut throttle completely and she glided on a thermal no problem at all to save battery. But Oh that engine power is so good at full throttle! In fact reducing it is a good thing and more economical LOL. But no it's a great plane. I have a Turnigy 2200 lipo and that fits no trouble and a perfect C of G. Flight time depends on how economical of a flyer you are! But even if you gave it heaps it stays up over 7 minutes on 2200 Turnigy Lipo. On economy (and high dead stick glide) it could last 17 mins or so! I even flew upside down no trouble and loops are easy as. Also aileron and rudder rolls went well! 5 stars for this one Durafly.

Obviously the battery goes in the little hatch under the motor area but can someone tell me the reciever goes??Is there room for a Guardian stabilizer on top of the reciever?

same place as esc. I oriented esc so its further inside (puts it away from esc a bit more) , battery leads on wing side away from motor then just sit receiver staight under battery (the hole in battery tray so its easy to get to if needed. I decided to dremmel the plastic and foam in battery compartment on wing side to make it easy to install batteries and tuck in the leads. also dremmeled the front of battery tray plastic near motor to make battery sit better. very easy mod and just makes batteries fit a lot easier as its a bit tight otherwise. using 2200 3 cells , nano and zippy batteries fit snug and cg is good. really lovely plane to fly, very scale looking. Does awesome stall turns. You will love this plane

CORRECTION:*puts it away from esc* should say *away from receiver

My concern with the SE5a is that when the Battery is in and it swells a bit after use it will never come out!!!!!

Just received my SE5a. Great looking plane. However how do I fit my Zippy 2200 3s Bat. in? No way is it going to fit. It is a very small place for the Battery. Please help.
 H-KING_SCOTT 5161 points
It's tight but it will fit.
 peterj2000 2 points

this plane is so easy to fly and very stable you really dont need a stabizier. If you do then you have wrong plane for your skill level. having said that it would easy fit in plane if needed, but seriously why?

Havent had a problem from these guys other than wanting the skyraider and going through the process to buy one only to find at the final point that the item is to big for Australia,(size exceeded) maybe you could put the countries you ARE able to ship to on the item listing, or, send a **** load of big stuff to our Aust warehouse in a container lol BH has a 2000mm P40 that l would rather buy from HK bigger is still better guys
 gruntfuttock 11 points
Maybe put the countries that you do supply seems a bit of an overkill. How about an Australian HK phone number. You know, start with something simple. Brian

This was ordered a month ago I was given a receipt ,a load of ***f about packing, lable printing, despatch time and a tracking number. That was the fist indiction I had that it was not coming from Austalia.I tried for weeks to track it and each time I was informed that there was no infomation available for this article.I checked my acount and not only was it not posted but it was reserved.I may be old but I'm not stupid. I do know the difference between Australian Whare House and Global.I am not after brownie points or rewards ,I'm just telling it like it is and wondered if anyone else had the same or similar experience. No agro or animosity towards HK just a simple question. still no reply its been 3 days the international phone line has never been active since dealing with HK.i guess overseas clients are NOT important. sad!
 aussie tom 69 points
even though HK claims they have a 24hr costumer service wich is an outright lie!!! obviously HK are making too much money. thank god for CARMA!
 gruntfuttock 11 points
Like I said earlier in a reply to Geoff,an Australian HK contact phone number might help Aussie customers. It seems if you're in the northern hemisphere your covered here in Oz forget it. Brian

sad even the so called costumer service and live is none existing.expected better!!
 BrianB192 1294 points
There isn't much they can tell you .apart from what you can see your self . that's why they gone to Leaving Request ,and looking Later to the Answer in the support area .

Just want to add a comment in support of HK here, I know good deeds often go unnoticed very often. I ordered one of these on Monday, it showed up on Thursday (today), the quality for a foam model is so much better than I was expecting for the price. So to the guys at HK, thank you. Quality of the models offered here keeps getting better and better, although I have no flown this (or even built it yet), I think this is a highly recommended model. I will add to this review after the build and first flight.

I give this one 5/5 , looks great, nice quality, flys just awesome as stock. due to alieron controll and ability I would not rank as 1st plane tho. any plane you can fly upside down is not a lv 1 plane. having said that is has no nasty habbits at all bery gentle stall. and would be able to be 1st plane with some basic buddy training, some people could fly 1st time, but would advise at least a good sim to get orientation on and calm weather. Ive flown in windy condition and does handle ok considering its boxy shape. you will love this plane ,even if you don't fly it ;)

Top marks, great plane you will love , details very nice, takes a about 2-3 hrs to put together (All the wire struts took me about an hr to put in as manual has no detail on installing them, more for looks I think than support< and they do look good>). manual is good although pic are a bit small. Nothing real difficult with assembly. Flying: very scale on 50pcnt power, 3s is perfect for this model, (nanotech 25-50C 2200mh is good fit) balanced perfectly (see my notes on discussion tab on this). Very easy to fly, good 2nd plane. Might be a bit much for 1st time flyer due to aileron control , so not a trainer (unless u buddy it with a xp pilot) . no nasty stall, just drops nose nice and gentle. landing gear is nice and strong , and big wheels to easy to grass land.

this plane would have to be one of the best planes hobbyking produces it flys faultlessly has plenty of power for aerobatics flys inverted easily and best of all looks awesome .also it is extemely tough as have clipped trees and put her down with minimal damage have probably put 100 batterys through it and it still flys the same as day 1 a total credit to hobbyking and i would recommend this plane to all rc pilots you wont be dissapointed
