I got a surmount sailing boat for Christmas and I noticed that there is a hole on the back side of the boat do I need to close this before putting it into the water thanks-
Tempted as this boat, the HK 2 ch radio and US shipping would be under $120. A good way to seal the hatch on sailboats: lay a piece of plastic wrap on the top of the hull, squeeze a bead of silicon caulk around the bottom edge of the hatch and then lightly place it on the hull. Push it in place (not sure how the hatch on this boat is held on), but don't squeeze out all of the caulk. After it has cured, take off the hatch, remove the plastic wrap, trim the caulk even with the edge of the hatch and you have a water tight gasket molded to the hatch.

I got my Surmount and man is it big! It's my first sailboat and it couldn't be easier to set up. Mine came with no damage what so ever and had it ready in a few hours. I took some time adjusting the rigging this little boat really likes a lot of twist in the sails. I ended up putting 870g of lead in the bulb and for light winds it should do fine. All in all she's a sweet sailing boat and beginner friendly.
On a side note the instructions will give you a good laugh :P But don't forget to check for leaks!

The Surmount arrived from the US warehouse in great condition. Assembly went together well, but you must stay open minded about the hardware and be inovative. The weight bulb completely filled with lead shot and epoxy only weighed 800 grams, I molded another big glob of shot and epoxy to the outside of the bulb to get the weight to 1.3kgs. Maiden voyage this last weekend was absolutely perfect until the rudder control horn, shattered under load. The sailboat is so efficient that it did uncontrollable circles for about about 45 min. until mother nature gradually drifted her to the shore line. The boat did take on a small amount of water, and i believe its through the hatch area, really because there is no seal, I will be improving / creating a seal. She sailed like champ until the failure. With parts for this boat not being available, I will need to manufacture a new rudder horn, and get her back to the pond. All in all I could not expect more for the cost of the boat. With lots of tinkering and modifying, I really think this is a cool sailboat, I can't wait to learn more about sailing. A Great Bang for the Buck! Maiden Voyage failure will hopefully lead to more successful and reliable further launches. Glad my first sail was on an enclosed pond, otherwise it would be on its way back to Hong Kong via the water! LOL! Great Fun!
