The Hextronik 5010 servo wont break any records, it wont astound you with its amazing torque or scare your friends with its ninja-like high speed action, but it is a solid, reliable plastic gear servo thats economical and great for those that are not too serious about specification.

I have purchased quite a few of these servos (25 or so). All have performed well in forty sized sport planes whether glow or electric. Comparable to Futaba Standard High Torque servo. Great price.

I use these servos in my warships for RC Naval Combat (www.mwci.org), both as rudder servos and for gun servos, pushing the valve stem to fire the cannons with CO2 (req's ~25oz-in of torque). They are reliable and easy to waterproof. I water proof them by drilling a 4mm hole in one of the long sides of the servo, about 15mm from the bottom, and using a syringe or eyedropper to squirt West System epoxy into the servo, coating the circuit board (servo must be vertical when you squirt the epoxy in. The hole at 15mm keeps the epoxy from getting high enough to seize the rheostat. Do NOT try to pull the circuit board out for waterproofing like the Futaba servos, the rheostat is hard-mounted to the circuit board, and to the gears above, and will be destroyed. Yes, I took one apart to test it. :) I have used one servo for more than a year with a lot of immersion (<20 minutes at a time, no deeper than 100-120mm unless sunk, in which case depths of a meter or two did not bother the treated servo. It moves slowly enough to be a good rudder servo, and fast enough to fire about 3 shots per second from the cannons. I am extremely happy with this servo for RC combat use :) Highly recommended. Only improvement would be good brass or stainless gears.
