Super Cub EP 1870mm Balsa/Ply (ARF) (AUS Warehouse)
In effect, an "engined up" J3 Cub, the Super Cub was so popular that Piper were still building this aircraft right up until 1981, after which they sold the manufacturing rights, by which time they had sold 2,650 examples. The engine was uprated to 150hp, giving the Super Cub a top speed of 130mph, this extra power also made the Super Cub ideal for glider towing.
The Hobbyking Super Cub Cub with its unique colour scheme is more than just a looker, it is a high quality, scale model that boasts, working bungee under-carriage, a magnetic Pilots door for easy battery access, flaps and a 2pc easy removable wing for transport.
This model is no IC conversion, it is a large, purpose built, electric powered, high quality model that will give hours of flying pleasure and with the reccomended set up, excellent flight times, are guaranteed, even if your model becomes the flying club glider tug!
I replaced the under carriage with a elite version which is 100% better. However how do you " soften" the setup. It's very hard in its setup and the landing gear needs to be softer.
Hi Alex I am still waiting to receive my landing gear. From discussions I have had with my fellow club members, they say that the gear must be fairly hard.
I have been flying mine for a month now and it is a real eye catcher. Very easy to fly and stable at scale speeds. The supplied undercarriage was rubish. It did not survive the maiden take-off, failing just as the mode lifted off the ground. The wire strut did not just bend, it broke off! Made a new U/C and no problems since. If anyone makes a new U/C for this model, keep it soft. if you make it too stiff you will have dificulty making decent landings. Overall, this is a great model and extremely good value.
If you are going to run a 13/6 prop on the 3548 with 4s you will need at least an 80 amp esc as the motor will draw 70 amps . If you use a 12/6 prop the 3548 motor will draw only 52 amps on 4s I dont know if the plane will fly with a 12/6 yet.
Hi Kanga. What size servo are you using in the wing for the ailerons and flaps. Do you have a make and model of the servos you use. My cub is ready to fly but i am a bit dubious with the wing mounted servos. I don't think they are strong enough and i don't want to find out at 30 feet in the air.
HK15288A Analog BB/MG Servo is the ones I used. These are great servos, and have metal gears but there is a small risk they can short inside. To ensure they dont just drop the bottom off of the case and add a small foam insert between the control pot and the circuit board . Easy fix
actually they are the ones i bought for the rudder and elevator. how luck was i!. They are a bit noisy but appear to be strong enough. While i have you there. I have a Turnighy DLUX 100 A ESC , would you recommend i install a UBEC swell as i am running a gyro and 5 channels from the one turnigy RX. Also do i need to cut the red wire on the ESC if i install a UBEC?
actually i need to more accurate. i mean the red small wire between the black and the orange wire that goes into the TX. I think it is the power cable.
I am using the turnigy dlux 70 amp , not using a Ubec , but maybe I should if I had one lol . The red wire is indeed the power wire but rather than cutting it it you can clip it out fold it back and wrap it in tape , incase you want to use it again later.
I have the clipped wing version of this model. I do agree the UC is weak and does not look right. But there is a simple solution to the problem. The UC from the E-flite Super Cub fits perfectly and looks good. It has also proven to be strong enough for the task. I have been waiting on the 1850 mm span model to arrive in the Ausie warehouse so I can purchase it also. Ken
Hi Guys. I just bought one and the landing gear looks like it has been recently upgraded to a much stronger frame. Maybe i am wrong but the undercarriage is fine for me and i fly off a thick grass strip.
I replaced my langing gear with a standard dubro landing gear . Not scale but still looks good. Tried to get the eflite one but its on backorder all over the world. The original would not of lasted one landing on our goat track of a landing strip .
I would think even the 40 size floats would be big enough . But if the 60 ones are nice and light I would not see a problem. you may need to up the power though .
This cub is well constructed, but light so be prepared to strengthen the fus and landing gear and you will be rewarded. I would order the plane via phone and ask for extra packaging to protect the fragile contents, as mine had a crushed cowl in it.....still waiting H.K.
Flying is a joy, a real puppy puttering around for 12 mins on a Rhino 3600 3s.
Fantastic product..... Recommended, its a well built model and very light in constrution. If anything, its too light and any presure applied to the upper fuselage, can cause damage. Great kit, ant wait to get this thing flying.

Hi. I have been buying planes from HK for years and i have the opinion of "you get what you pay for". Some foamies i have bought have lasted 5 minutes and some a flying slabs of Arildite however.............i am staggered at the quality of this Cub for only $115. Its a bit scary really when you think of what the Chinese can produce and sell for $115. Imagine if they made this Cub in Australia. It would cost $1,115, take 4 weeks to manufacture, involve 5 unions, 2 stop work meetings, 3 royal commissions and a back room Union/ Labor Party swindle to finish....then 60 redundant workers rushing to the Western Qld mines for work and then whining as they can't save any money out of their $180,000 wage packet. Everything in this kit is quality, it all fits perfectly, the instructions are clear, there are no second guesses and i would have paid twice this amount. I couldn't recommend this kit any higher. I even found the apparent "weak landing gear" to be fine. Perhaps they have upgraded it recently. The only addition i did was the place a thin sheet of wood over the floor where the landing gear is bolted onto the fuselage. Really happy HK!!!

I received my Cub this morning Friday 26/5/12 in excellent condition. Ordered on Tuesday 22/5/12 thank you HK for your excellent supply and delivery time. Kit was very well packed .
I can not believe the quality and construction of this model . It is absolutley incredible. This model is built like my grandfather used to build , very light yet still strong. I have been building models for over 30 years and My models are perfect in their finish .. this Super cub matches any one of my builds any day , it is that good. The covering is perfect not a wrinkle or unstuck edge . I could not build a model of this caliber from scratch for the money that this cost . It really is good value for money. So... it is such a shame that they have used a sub standard under carriage on the model ..I will be replacing my undercarriage with an eflite one off of thier cub, I am told it fits perfectly. I am still going to give this model 5 stars even though the original undercarriage needs to be replaced.
