What's better for bigginers axn floater or bixler ? Also want to do for on unit with fat shark fob kit too which is Bette for fpv and starter Haven't flown in about 8 years so need to start again
 Rexy03 1077 points
both the AXN and Bixler are good for beginners, really comes down to a personal choice, there are lots of AXNs being used for FPV but the Bixler has some FPV mounting kits available which would make it easy to convert

Got a question before I go ahead and get this one regarding the battery connector. In pic it looks like the cheap version of a HT60 so is there an adapter or what do you do?
 PowerGlider 40 points
When I got mine it came with a XT60 plug if you want to change this plug you can cut it of and solder a new one on or HK have some adapters but there in the International warehouse but what are you wanting to connect to?
 shane66au 33 points
Umm, maybe a battery lol
 PowerGlider 40 points
And all this time iv been using a can of coke bugger , ill put it simple what plug, deans, XT60 and so on.
 shane66au 33 points
Batteries I have ordered have XT60 connectors and some of these have come with them on the ESC, whilst some have a T connector apparently. Sawdust has been tutoring me in the forum. Ordered some XT60's anyway and I forgot that I have a spare ESC with the XT60 anyway if it came to it.
 Rexy03 1077 points
the plug in the pic is a deans plug, but that will be an old pic, all hobbyking models come with a XT60 Plug, so if you got the recommended battery for this it will fit without requiring modification

Thanks Rexy03, away from the esc makes semse. Do you use the Hobby King 2.4Ghz 4Ch Tx & Rx V2? Thanks
 Rexy03 1077 points
darrell Im using the 6ch Hobbyking radio
 Rexy03 1077 points
they both use the same reciever tho
DarrellAus  1 points - 4/7/2013

Hi all, have just bought and assembled the AXN motor only and have flown for the first time (no crashes :) using the Hobby King 2.4Ghz 4Ch Tx & Rx V2. I have had a problem with the plane going out of range at maybe 100mtr out and 60 mtr up. I moved the aerial to outside of the canopy on one side and it seemed to help. Is this rx tx ok for this plane or am I missing something. Was contemplating pushing the aerial through the bottom and recessing it in. Cheers
 Rexy03 1077 points
I have my aerial implanted inside the top part of the fuselage in hole I drilled through the foam, and I have no range issues, main thing is to keep the aerial away from the esc
 aussiepaul 40 points
This may sound stupid but also check that you have fresh new batteries in your transmitter, dont mix batteries, and dont be tempted to fly once the batteries get low, change them. The transmitter is good for this plane, it should be really out of sight before you were to even lose siganl.
Skyla  15 points - 4/6/2013

Ha there Jimmy thanks for the feedback sounds like you know this plane quite well. HHmmmm I'm sure ill be crashing also. a friend of my she has twisted my arm into buying this plane also, So looks like its the choice of many, ill keep you posted with the out come of my first live flight, or maiden I've just been informed, so much aircraft jargon aaaahhhhrrr

Hi there I'm a new Hobbyist first plane purchase ,would you recommend this plane to me to start with or something similar , have be using a Phoenix4 simulator for about 3months now ill jump in a give the real thing a go.Please advise
 Jimmy007 22 points
Brilliant first plane. Very easy to fly and very cheap! Highly recommend it! You can get away with flying at any speed without the worry of stalling, but on landing don't pull throttle right off until you are very near the ground. Trust me from personal experience. Pull it off gradually! My first plane with no previous experience even with a flight sim so Pam you should have no worries! Easy to assemble also but if you have troubles there are some very helpful youtube videos out there aswell. Very forgiving with crashes aswell, I have crashed many a time and quite badly aswell but has held up very well. Crashed it very badly once and the nose was just hanging on in about 4 or 5 different places but was very forgiving and easy to put back together with a bit of 5 minute araldite! Would highly recommend to any level flyer especially beginner!

I agree with Rexy03, is a good plane, if intermediate pilot can fly at wot power and buzz along at quite a nice speed, and is good for general stunts, but i definitely agree to get the kit form and kit it out yourself, i bought this version and had to replace the aileron esc's as one stopped working mid flight, after only one flight, lucky it seized in neutral position and was able to use rudder to steer it back down to earth in one piece. also ive heard at wot flying the supplied speed controler will burn out in a very short time. Hk keep the price down buy supplying inferior quality electronics, best to buy your own hxt900 servos, these cheap as chips but a reliable servo and a decent esc. I wish sometime HK would put in decent electronics and i wouldnt mind paying a little for ARF versions,
keenanj3cub  22 points - 3/13/2013

hey guys im looking at getting a new plane and i saw this and it looked good is it and if its not what should i get for around $80 - $100 im an intermediate flyer i can fly the 800mm f4u corsair
 Rexy03 1077 points
this is a good plane but you might find it a bit boring after the f4u, it is great for a leisurely fly and will buzz along quickly but not like the f4u, i recommend getting the version with motor only and buy better quality esc and servos have a look for rc model reviews build videos on utube and the bill of materials page on there web site. plus theres heaps of videos of this plane in action by Xjet

Thanx and also what other planes would you recommend
 Rexy03 1077 points
In this type the bixler is good
 keenanj3cub 22 points
is ther any other good planes not in this type
 Ca4lo 78 points
if you can fly the corsair good this will probly bore you unless you are planning on doing some fpv with it. if u liked the corsair and want something a bit more challinging in your price range go for an funfighter warbird or and edf jet like the t-45 goshawk. i really like the p-51 mustang 900mm ish and the red arrow is a very good first edf jet and is also in your price range. also there a loads of profile 3d planes that would fit or be less than your bugdet if you want aerobatics. also there are a few f3a patternships that would fit your budget if you do choose to take the aerobatic path.
 aussiepaul 40 points
Grab a funfighter warbird Trojan T-28, 800MM size, good all round park flyer, with some speed and if you like some scale in their to.
 SigiK 195 points
You might like the Mini Swift, but you have to upgrade the motor on it.

Any clues on self hand launching.
 Rexy03 1077 points
easy, set 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, throw it forward firmly at about 30 degrees upward and if she drops her nose give a little up elevator and maybe some aileron to keep her straight

I noticed my rudder and ailerons are reversed, its no big deal i can reverse it on my 9x, but is that normal.
 aussiepaul 40 points
Yer thats no problem, depending on what receiver you using and transmitter, sometimes ive just had to reverse one, just reverse the rudder and ailerons in your transmitter. should be good to go
 Rexy03 1077 points
Yes I had to reverse my rudder and aileron as well

I am about to maiden my axn tomorrow and was wandering what sort of flight times i can expect out of a 1800mah battery? Thanks in advance!
 aussiepaul 40 points
Hi i run 1800 in my axn and go for about 12 mins, but all depends on wether you are running flat out or just cruising, im usually for that 12 mins on half to 3/4 throttle for the whole 12 mins and their is plenty to spare .
 Rexy03 1077 points
You should get the 2200 mah battery for much longer flight time and its the perfect weight for Axn-cf
aussiepaul  40 points - 2/22/2013

****
 Rexy03 1077 points
yep that will look a lot better, I have also seen a receiver pushed down the fuselage behind the servos but that makes it difficult to get it out again, you must be almost ready to fly , Good luck and enjoy
aussiepaul  40 points - 2/22/2013

if you buy this setup pnf with the servos already installed i could not fit a turnigy 9x receiver, once you put a 2200 battery in, their is no room, would be interested to see a photo of how people have fitted it in.
 Rexy03 1077 points
did you cut out the battery compartment so the 2200 battery goes right up into the nose ? did you mount the rec on the firewall above the servos ? ill find a pic and put it under the files tab
 Rexy03 1077 points
I cant fid the pic that I wanted but i uploaded two, one with the rec flat and one with the rec on the side, note you can also put the rec upwards on the firewall with the plugs at top or bottom as you have plenty of room inside the canopy I have seen one that had a small amount of foam trimmed out on the sides to fit the cables in if mounted sideways, you can also just sit it on top of the battery.

 aussiepaul 40 points
HI thanks for photos, i noticed that the one you have on its side is a bit messy and on its end is ok but i noticed you dont have the control arms connected on the servos, that was the problem i found the servos would hit the rec when they were moving, also the pic was taken in 2009 the new receivers that come with the turnigy 9x vers 2 is larger than the old 2009
 Rexy03 1077 points
Paul, i turned my servos around so that the servo arm is closer to the tail giving a bit more room in the cabin, I also connected the z bend at the servo, this gives a bit more room as well and the push rod ends dont spear anything in a crash
 aussiepaul 40 points
Hi Rexy excellent idea i didnt even think of that, ive had a axn for awhile and is flying good using a orange rec, but im building my second one and want to use the Turnigy 9X rec, thanks for all the help and hints.
pr3d470r  13 points - 2/18/2013

hey all, just wandering if the turnigy 9x receiver would fit into this?
 Rexy03 1077 points
yes you will be able to squeeze it in, I have seen them in the floater jet
 Jimmy007 22 points
It's a snug fit but it works fine and it doesn't move around at all. I have always used the turnigy 9x reciever whilest flying my axn floater
 CrashAce 797 points
The HobbyKing 6ch v2 receiver will also bind with the 9X and is considerably smaller. I have three of 'em

could i use a pair of large buttons for wheels?
 Rexy03 1077 points
That would look a bit strange ? but seriously you dont need wheels on the floater jet, just put a few strips of glass fibre tape on the bottom and she will take off easily without any damage to the foam
 crazycarmaniac 166 points
If just for take of and landings cos ive seen it , it has a habit of siliding around and onto the wing it all
 Rexy03 1077 points
I have seen an axn with this wheel modified and fitted, looked realy good Landing gear. (glider style) PRODUCT ID: CMP-Z21-23
 Rexy03 1077 points
have a look at the discussions there is a video of it fitted to an easy star, the one i saw was modified so that it only had the bracket holding the wheel and was fixed in place so it didnt retract

last time i flew a rc plane was approx 9 years ago i was 8 and had a cheap 2 channel rc plane that went on a rc tank and lanched it. but boy did i do my landings perfect full throttle and tail first itd just slide with out skipping every single time.

None of my flights is FPV, normal control looking to the plane!! I don't use landing wheels,. This plane is very easy to fly, I only started to fly in March 2012
 crazycarmaniac 166 points
On your point of veiw is this perfect for beginners using higher than a 2ch plane
 aussiepaul 40 points
Hi this is perfect beginners plane flys straight out the box not much trimming, very stable and versatile, might want to maybe get used to flying a 3 ch first thou, rudder, elevator and throttle then moved on to ailerons.
 crazycarmaniac 166 points
Is j tpossible to use as 3ch then 4ch when experienced
 helderafonso 78 points
I started with AXN floater, it was my first plane, it is perfect for begineers.
 Jimmy007 22 points
This was my first plane and after working out my new transmitter I have got some brilliant flights out of it. If it's the first time ever flying a rc plane you may find it helpful to mix rudder & ailerons. I did that and found it a lot easier to start off with. It gives you a chance to get used to flying before worrying about all the different joysticks. Perfect begginer plane and perfect price!!!
 helderafonso 78 points
Personaly I don't liked to mix rudder & ailerons.

Hi guys grabbed one of these just a few days before xmas and only just had the chance to maiden flight, wow, i cant believe it just flew out my hands and flew straight and level with no trim adjustment, excellent plane to fly and believe me i'm no expert, only just been learning to fly and this is the best one so far. Only thing i found and not a real biggy, but very little space up front, was flat out installing my receiver, very squashy, compared to the bixler and similar planes. And don t be afraid to trim the front to fit the 2200 batteries, i wasn't to keen but thought i would give it a go, the foam cuts really easy with a good hobby knife, and also trim away the small blocks at the bottom and the battery fits no problem, no bull guys this is one sweet plane to fly and own. Sorry i should of put this in the reviews section.

Hi ya Cody your battery will fit like Klass has mentioned, cut out a bit of foam the 3 little blocks right up the front

Then set up your TX Radio, start with about

90%/D/Rates Aileron 5% Expo

90% D/Rates Elevator 5% Expo

90% D/Rates Rudder 5% Expo
Making sure all your trims are centred an Ailerons are flush to the wings surface

Also the rudder an elevator are flush an aligned to their individual surface

Should be a good starting point you can make adjustments as you go cheers an good luck

If I buy this version, a Turnigy 2200 mAh 3S 30c battery and Hobby King 2.4ghz 6ch Tx&Rx V2 (Mode 1). Will it be ready to have the battery plugged in and flown? Thanks.
 bumbling pilot 6 points
Yep. Don't forget a battery charger and suitable plug ** many chargers seem to be missing the XT60 plug that this plane and most of the batteries in this size use. Also it sounds like a large battery like 2200 will need a bit of foam trimmed off to fit (easy to do with a stanley knife).

This is a great little plan. Got mine today, put it togeather and went flying 15-20not wind flew fantastic. I would recamend this Floater Jet to anyone who wants to lean to fly or if you are an experinced flyer nice little plane for some back yard /park fun. i use to have a Esky phenix until it ceashed for the last time. The Floater Jet is as good.

Got this plane after crashed my Bixler and couldn't get it in Australia. Came in excellent packaging. Everything required, even glue was included. Took only 30 minutes to make it flight ready. Taped aileron and elevator hinges. Few things: - CoG was nowhere documented. Had to guess around the thickest part of the wing. - Very sensitive to wind. Not able to overcome a slight wind. Goods: - Only 30pcnt throttel was required to nicely cruise - Very easy to hand launch - Excellent finish Overall, if you pick a calm day, this is an excellent plane.

G'day bought 6 of these gliders for club night flying. A nice quick build and all was supplied for construction. I optioned to use the turnigy 3S 2200mh batterys in them and in this configuration found the c/g to be perfect at 1/3rd of the wing root .Out of the six planes test flown none of them needed any trimming, perfect out of the box.(it was very gusty between 20-25km's)
Ok now for the not so good points,
1. the motors where wired up incorrectly running the wrong way for pusher ,
2. the rudder & elevator servos not glued in very well (we epxoyed them in place)
3.aileron and rudder mix is a good idea for more responsive and flatter turning. (aileron alone was not real good)
OK as far as ratings go i'd give it the thumbs up, for quick and ease of build and quality of the foams smooth finninsh to be one of the best ive seen in a foamy.
For the money it's a well worth investment.

Awesome plane, top quality finish and the stickers are great quality
Easy to assemble, make sure you get your CG right, makes it so much easier to fly, also glides forever
Great for beginners and best to use some Zippy 2200 mah packs, CG is perfect. Make sure you tighten your motor mount (2 grub screws) common issue with them coming lose. My motor popped out on maiden flight but was an easy fix. Use a little loctite to make sure they don't come lose with the vibrations
Motor is very powerful, worth upgrading to a 6x4e propeller as on a fully charged 3s pack the motor will make over 200 watt with easy. Makes this plane a whole lot more fun to fly! Great value for the price

The cons - one servo started smoking on first power up. The wings don't hold in well so need to either glue them or make some catch. Gets a little unstable when flying rather slow while turning due to the big wings. The pros - My 7 year old did the maiden flight and flew it like a pro. Previously he only flown small 3ch planes. That's how easy it is to fly. Bring it up and than glide nicely down or just cruise around. So easy I was getting bit bored being used to planes that need constant attention. Can't do any rolls with it but can do fairly tight loops on 3S. Looping at full speed bends the wings like crazy but they don't break. I hit a lamp post at 1/2 speed and only got a dent in the wing. Pretty tough plane I'd say. it flies well on 2S as well, even had in small 2S 1000mah and it was fine tho little tail heavy for gliding. When Lipo goes low the ESC will alternate to motor speed up/down to let you know wchich is pretty need tho the forst time I thought it was about to die not knowing what it was :-) Good plane, get one.
