This motor has a nice collection of hardware. But the screws for the prop adapter do not match the motor housing. I thought that had I read that someone else had the same problem. But I can't find his comments. Has anyone else had this problem? Did you tape it out?

OK. Thanks for the tip, I'm a newbie at buying aircraft parts here. Anyway, I bought them a week ago in another place where the shipping is cheaper. These are less expensive, though.

I received this motor today, but al the 3 connections are black, so how do I know to make the good connections to esc, or does this no matter?
 H-KING_SCOTT 5161 points
Connect in any sequence initially, test for direction of rotation....PROP OFF...swap any two of the three wires to reverse direction if required.
 Ivan 15 points
They are in order. Connect the center conductor wire to a central wire ESC. The remaining two wires connect as you like (affects the direction of rotation of the motor).

Ok there's another critical question. How about smoothnes of this motor? Is it as smooth as the hacker copies said to be?
 Haxxel 38 points
I think it's very smooth indeed, good resolution and throttle response. I use it on a camera plane and i get no vibrations and stable thrust. When twisted by hand you can't feel these distinctive "notches", its a more smooth rotation.

does this motor come with accessories such as prop adapter? if yes what is included?
 Haxxel 38 points
Yes you get a lot of equipment. It comes with a X-shaped mount with screws, connectors for both ESC and motor, a propsaver with o-rings, an extra shaft and a propadapter that are screwd directly to the motor bell.

I'm building my first RC airplane... it's a 2M Gentle Lady glider that I'm converting into a motor glider. I'm looking for a good motor/folding prop that will work. Does anybody know if this motor and a 10x6 folding prop would be a reasonable choice?
 GIL.SCORPION 90 points
Surely, with the 10x6 prop engine that you will have a thrust of more than 1 kg.

Probably an incorrect setting esc (full throttle)
 rudeboy 79 points
read the instructions of the esc, maybe the position of full throttle isn't configured correct. ****************************** maybe you could use a prop of another brand. aeronaut from germany are good quality. ****************************** i use the same motor, with the nearly the same prop (10x6 11x5 or so), draws about 19-20 amps

 r/c vish 57 points
yes indeed it is perfect...! i use the same and have been quite comfortable in using it....! it will give u unlimited vertical with a 12* 4 prop
 aliank 14 points
won't we overwork the motor if we installed 12*4 prop? as suggested is 11 * 5 ?
 r/c vish 57 points
actually no...! 11*5 is equal to 12*4-3.5 and 10*6. the effect on the motor is same on all these props but differ in the thrust or speed you want..!
typomaniac  8 points - 9/22/2011

one more question: which bullet connectors are attached? (if any) thank you!
 Arakic 19 points
4mm bullet connector. They are not attached but item are included in the set so you can solder it by yourself.
 r/c vish 57 points
bullet connectors are sent along with the motor... you have to solder the male bullets to the motor and the remaining females to the ABC wires of the ESC. a very good motor have 5 of these..
 Thibault 8 points
just a precision, you can twist and bend the wire before inserting it and weld it so that it fits better now in place
typomaniac  8 points - 9/20/2011

Hey, does anyone know the shaft diameter? Thank you! Andre
 Pecker head 20 points

i flight this motor with a 12x8 cam carbon on 3s in a easyglider pro. ...clouds over... xD
 aliank 14 points
Its 3mm.
 Thibault 8 points
i have measured it and i find 3mm too, and i add that a second shaft (of 3mm too) is gived with the engine, as an adapter for propeller mounted directly on the rotating cage by 4 screws
club17  58 points - 9/14/2011

Would this motor be a good replacement for phoenix glider.
 Sergey 1 points
it all depends on the weight of the airframe, the thrust of this motor with 3s battery up to 1kg! how much weight your glider?
 r/c vish 57 points
this is a damn powerful motor.. will work as a replacement to much of the motors. if it is overpowered you can always keep low throttle. check the weight for the main issue..!
 Evgeniy 1 points
Hi! What timing for this motor?
 Juerwotow 33 points
you can use better the KD A22-20M it is ligther and perfect for you glider
 Richard 5 points
It works great on 2-meter gliders. Plenty of power with a 3s 2100 lipo. l use a 8" folding prop and wow! That thing climbs at 70 degres at 3/4 throttle with no problem.
MikeFB  11 points - 9/7/2011

Can some one explain to me how to wire this motor to the ESC? The ESC has 3 wires, red, ( ve) black (-ve)_ and white but the motor just has 3 black wires. Does it not really matter which way these are connected as long as the motor spins in the right direction?
 busher 145 points
It does not matter which wire goes where, just connect up the esc to the three motor wires and see if it goes in the right direction. If it does you are good to go, if not you need only to swap two of the motor wires to change the direction of the motor. Note some of the programmable esc's allow the motor to be reversed in the software so this could be another way of changing the direction of the motor. DO NOT however change the battery connections as this will more than likely destroy your spee
 Sergey 1 points
There are three wires on the engine also THREE CONNECTED AS IF LIKE TO SPIN IN OTHER WAY JUST TO CHANGE ANY TWO WIRE PLACE!
 aliank 14 points
Hi it doesn't matter for the wire color. just make sure the middle cable is connected to the middle esc cable. and then just switch the other two cable for rotation or counter rotate.
 Haxxel 38 points
Yo don't have to make sure the middle cable is connected to the middle. The tree wires can be arranged in any order! (But to change direction: change two, does not matter witch two!)

Hello, anyone know if this motor comes with motor mounts? I'm reading here that the shaft can be reverse, so does this mean that I can mount the motor from the bottom? I'm thinking of using this motor on a quadcopter.
 Pepped 18 points
Yes it comes with a motor mount.
It also comes with a spare motor shaft.
I have turned the motor around on my quad, what I did was I losened the hex screw and tapped the shaft out, left the C-ring on.
Took the spare shaft and put that in with a new fresh C-ring on.

Can the shaft be reversed or is it pressed in?
 damodamo 2 points
Yes it can be reversed with a little effort... I used a drill press to push it through. Has grooves for c-clips on both sides of the shaft.
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 Pepped 18 points
Don't remove the C-clip.
1. Unscrew the hex screw holding the shaft and tapp it out.
2. Put one of the unused C-clip on the spare shaft and push it in the other way, tighten the hex screw.
3. Put the first shaft back in the plastic bag as a backup.

I need a BL for my Formosa II. Anyone know if this is enough?
 Gary Toh 31 points
Hi,

I got this for my 1KG (including Batt) Red Hawk 3D Plane. Anything beyond 1kg weight is not advisable. ahope this help.
 Jan 5 points
Quite enough that engine.
 PuntoFire 62 points
For the Pilotage/3D plane it's advised to have 1.5 more thrust than the plane weights. I don't know how much does your formosa 2 weight, but this motor has a thrust of ~1.2KG, and i would recommend this motor for 700-900 G plane with all electronics.
 Such Is Life 162 points
I ran a KD A22-20L on my 1Kg Extra 300 and it gives good pattern performance and mild 3D. Use a 10x5 prop, you will get 1.1Kg thrust on 3s. I have now upgraded to a 35-36 size motor on 12x6 and 3D performance is markedly improved with 1.4Kg thrust, unlimited vertical and good 3D performance.

Well, I recommend you to reverse the shaft because it breaks and put the other mount, the one with screws, it is harder and it fits well with the propellers. Do it if you can... good flights!

Nice little Motor. I use it in an EasyGlider with an 10x6 folding prop and an 2200/16C 3S lipo. It drags about 20 Amps. The EGE climbs fast at more than 45 degrees. That's what i wanted! The Motor is more than worth the money!

This motor is spectacular!! I have it on a Yak-54 .25 gas conversion and it performs BETTER then a .25 gas. Plane weighs 42 ounces yet I'm getting unlimited vertical. I'm spinning a 10x3.8 prop on a 3 cell pack 2100mah, no BEC. I'm getting 47 ounces of thrust at 22.4 amps, unbelievable. Flights last 5.5 minutes. I was purchasing these motors from a different vendor till I found Unites Hobbies which has them for half the price! I ordered three more for stock. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

One of my favourite motors. I have this motor on my GWS Formosa spinning a 9x6E prop and it will pull close to unlimited vertical. With a 2200mah 3S lipo, the motor comes down only warm. Fits perfectly on the GWS outrunner stick mounts.

Will be ordering more of these motors in the future.

What an awesome motor! I'm using it in a powered glider that weighs 700g.

System:
Motor: KD A22-20L
Prop: Graupner 11x8 folding blades with MP Jet spinner plus 3mm shaft collet.
Battery: Loong Max 15C/25C 1000mAh 3S
ESC: Turnigy Plush 40A

Performance data:
230W @ 24A, 9.7V, sustained.
6800rpm.
Thrust calculated at 1100g (exceeds 1.5:1), and flight testing backs this up as shown by plumb-vertical climbs at good speed.

This is a credit to the motor. Show me another motor of this size and weight that can handle this kind of power! Power is only used for short bursts to 500plus feet, which helps, but even so, the motor has to be capable. I planned on 6 climbs per charge, but I'm getting 10 - 12 due to the awesome power and thrust - shorter "on" time than expected due to the rapid climb rate.

A far better motor than the "Hacker copies". You won't be disappointed.
