A true cold war warrior, the F-86 Sabre found fame in the 1950s Korean conflict, it is a genuine classic with good reason, and this superb EPO Plug N Fly model really does this amazing aircraft justice.
Being PNF it is a fast build, the powerful EDF unit/ESC combo is pre-installed as are all the servos. This model is a good size and needs a 4s Lipoly to achieve the kind of performance you are looking for, also for a nice change in this class, the Lipoly compartment has been designed to take a large pack for decent flight times.
As well as being a superb looking and performing model, this Sabre is packed with features such as pre-installed electric retracts, optional drop tanks, flaps are again pre-installed as are the airbrakes which you can either set up on a seperate channel or connect to extend with your flaps, in fact this tough EPO jet only needs one thing......a Mig 15 from this new range of cold war classics to dogfight with!
Wayne, I had one explode on me years ago. YOu would think they would balance them before assy, but I guess they don't have that kind of time to invest in the Kits and still make any money off them. Probably the only EDF you will Not have to balance would be the High Dollar Aluminum EDF unit's. Hey have you had any trouble with the stock ESC in You're F-86?
Hey EZ400! No problem with the ESC at all, pulls 42A with a 4s 4000 maH Nano-Tech, however the left rear landing gear retract was bad out of the box. Other then that, it is a really fun and stable flyer! Had to expoxy the landing gear plywood layers to each other and the foam, as the glue used was jokingly sp****. All in all, a good deal and the plane is a great entry EDF for me.
Thanks EZ400. I was not aware of that honestly. Good news is, after I balanced it, it is a great, easy fun flier! Air brakes look very.cool when landing.
To clarify, it was NOT the impeller which I had to balance, it was the aluminum hub, or adapter between the motor shaft and the impeller itself. It was bent causing a horrible wobble at any RPM. This was a definite QC issue which could and should have been caught. Being an amateur home machinist, I chucked it on my lathe and got it straight.
In 2012, I have spent 1,118.26 with HK. After a week and (9) e-mail correspondances, I still have no resolution from "Jessi" at HK Support on the DOA, out of balance fan motor of my F-86. Very disappointed in how they treat their customers AFTER the sale. I'll probably chuck the bent adapter in my lathe and correct the run out myself, but still i have to buy a new servo as one of the electric retracts is also DOA.
Hey Wayne - I don't know anyone who is Experienced in RC EDF who doesn't Pre-Balance the Fan in their EDF - NO MATTER WHAT BRAND IT IS - prior to first run-up.
Thanks EZ400... I was not aware of that and was a learning experience. Good news is, it is all set and is a really fun flier! Air brakes look so cool when landing!
Here is a link to the photos which clearly show the damage to the fan housing upon start.

I just purchased this awesome plane yesterday from the USA warehouse. Heck, even at 175.00, it is an outstanding deal. The kit from a HK competetor (Banana) is the same $$ but you get a lot less. Dave, I hear what you are saying though, made me do a double take too.
Okay, the assembly went very well the plane was well packaged and no problems from shipping. It is a very easy assembly however you must pay attention to routing the servo wires in the wings as it is a bit tight and wires are a bit short. I was very disappointed to find the plane vibrate badly upon testing the motkr. The motor shaft coupler to the fan is bent and the fan s****es the housing as a result of its imbalance. What a mess and a total oversight on QC. I've sent photos which leave nothing to interpretation to the HK Support, so I hope they make it right by sending another plane, as the plane cannot be flown as is. Come on HK, don't disappoint this Platinum customer! We'll see and stay tuned for a follow up report. A great plane otherwise, so I hope this is resolved and soon. Happy New Year!!
Dang cell phone keypad. "s***es" comment above was supposed to read "shakes" the housing... well, HK Support is now asking me for a copy of the shipping ticket? HUH? I have a feeling Support will do nothing to help out here... a huge disappointment.
Ill tell you why...... I bought the PNP one of these for 124.95 included shipping, delivered to my door. I found mine from a company called VENOM. It is marketed in the states as the Venom F-86 and is an awesome plane. I should have bought 2 of them. Its huge and very well made. Its tragic that HK wants too much for it and then burn you on shipping too. I would buy this plane from them if they sold it for 100.00 plus shipping.
KELLYanne, do you fly one of these? If so i hear its underpowered can you tell me what motor/fan makes this perform much better and of co**** i would put a 80-100 amp esc in it ...Also i am a platium member, but i don't understand what benefit getting points does...??
GWS uses a vairety of foam. You are thinking of their EPS (Expanded PolyStyrene - aka Beer Cooler foam). The Expanded polypropylene (EPP) is used mainy in 3-D RC airplanes and childrens beginner RC airplanes (very tough). This is EPO which is much more durable than EPS, and easily repaired with a CA glue or Epoxy.
also i use gorilla glue for a lot of my epo repairs...

My first EDF jet: stable to fly, a lot of fun! Poor quality control on the impeller adapter after the motor, as I have mentioned in the discussions plus a failed retract out of the box, hence my 3 stars for quality, yet overall it is a good price for a good plane! Probably a little slow for a jet, but I need a slower jet as my first so I'm happy! Detail is pretty good and very simple to assemble... By the way, it arrived on my doorstep in less than one week from the US warehouse. Can't argue about the shipping costs either and no shipping damage. Thanks HK!
