The Ki-61 was the only Japanese fighter of WW2 to use a liquid cooled, v-configuration engine, when first engaged by allied airman, it was mistaken for a BF109 by some, others were convinced that the aircraft was of Italian design, hence the allied codename "Tony" was given to this sleek and attractive fighter.
This H-King Ki-61 is a top quality kit, despite its size, the excellent design, coupled with first class materials gives you an ultra-light flying weight without any compromise in durability. The model is also superbly practical, the 2pc wings are plug in and the large canopy is removable, also ideal for electric conversion. Mechanical retracts are included and split flaps have been designed into the sleek wing, the rudder is pull/pull and the comprehensive & included hardware is first rate. There is plenty of scale detail, the covering is expertly applied and the cowl superbly painted, this is a fantastic looking model!
At 70" span, this model has an huge amount of presence, flight performance is every bit as good as the looks of this sleek fighter. The Ki-61 is far more practical than most warbirds and dont let the price fool you, you would be hard pushed to find many warbirds in this catagory to match the quality, finish and performance of the Ki-61, even at twice the price!
Features: 2pc Plug in wing and horizontal stab Ultra light construction Top quality covering and painted parts Scale detail including rivets and exhaust stacks Option of single or twin retract servo operation Large, removable canopy Pull/pull rudder with alloy servo arm included Piano wire control rods Full airfoil profile vertical & horizontal Stabilizer
Requires: Your own 6 Channel TX/RX 0.60 two stroke or 0.90 four stroke glow engine (or equivalent gas or electric equivalent) RX Battery UBEC/Regulator 8 x standard servo + 1 x retract servo (or 2 x standard servo for retract optional) 90mm Spinner
I just tested my Kien.61: beautiful! Configuration: powered by JBA .61 engine* propeller: Graupner 13X6. It's really fast! The flaps are not necessary for take-off: it is better to use them in landing. Truly a great plane!
I'm very happy!!!
Hey there Arnaudd the point of were the cg is or so I have read was making it tail heavy so I had put mine forward and it fly's. It also depends on your power set up were you running nitro or gas because with gas your plane tends to way more in the front than it would with nitro. I am not saying gas is bad but it do's add weight. did you use the same power set up in the second plane if so use the recomended cg again and get some weights to see how nose heavy it is and if it is alot move your rx battery back like to were you join the wings and that should help with the balance.
Dude, the middle of the propeller pushes very little air, as the blades (in the middle are travelling so slowly). The optimal size nose cone is about 30% as big as the propeller blades (but NO ONE uses nose cones that big!). Using a nose cone pushes the air in the middle out to a part of the propeller blade that pushes it much better than the blade in the middle. Using nose cones increases the efficiency of the power system.
thanks for the quick response and accurate. I had already bought these trucks, but I was afraid they were unfit model. Now that I got the confirmation from you, I can install them easily. Thank you again.
and buy so oleo legs with 5 mm pin. u will need to extend them to fit though, as the distance between the pivot point of the retracts to the wheel on this plane is about 185. i bought those SKU: 13038002
they say on this page that the flying weight is 3.7 kg.. is that with fuel motor, electric, how can they tell this? or is it just the kit weight? because i have a turnigy g46 500kv, that will give 3kg of thrust with a 15x8 prop.. wonder if that will be enough?
I use a RCG30cc in the 1900mm sbach342 it isn't balsa sheeted and is just a frame with covering, and nothing has gone wrong after 6 months and the engine was always a bit rough and we couldn't fix that, in my opinion balance the prop as best you can and just minimize as much vibration as you can and a 20cc should be just fine! hope this helps
On the setting on my is turnigy 5055 400kv ice lite 100amps castle creation *4 jr standard servo 13*10 apc ep *2 2650.. or 3000mah to 40000mah in two series
My airplanes hyperion nakajima zero 50e 57" wingspan n fuselage 55" this set up can use on hanger9 60e size on corsair 62" wingspan and p51 mustang.
I hope this get you an idea how to set up type of motor to use...hope this helps a lot.
Kellyann...I think either one on the motor will do fine coz 5055 400kv is equivalent to eflite power 60 5059 what is kv might be similar to power 90 eflite?
I have the 5055 400kv turnigy I put on 50e size hyperion nakajima zero and ice lite 100amps castle creation and I have so much thrust of power my throttle stick on 70% not even at pull throttle. Oh 6sI 2650mah *2...
To be fair i didnt see the size of it. Very big!!! Kyosho is much smaller, if price was a bit less it would be fairer as one can add scale details to it but again fuselage has to be redone HK. Make it fibregalss or balsa sheeted for gas engines otherwise it would break in half in the air!!
I love the ARF but am VERY dissapointed with the decorations. This is a scale warbird and it looks like a Reno Air Racer with a couple of round circles on the wings. It should look like one of these Tonys. www.link ki-61 hien&gbv=2&oq=Kawasaki www.link
Nothing a bit of research cannot fix, and a few bucks. Considering the size of this plane, a few dollars on scale accessories (i.e. decals, guns etc.) is nothing to get upset over. Overall this plane looks sweet. ANother one on my list.
virdun Yes but what great Electric Bird she will make. You gas boys want in all but it is time to understand you are the Old School. I know you cannot bet the smell and the sound of the Glo or Gas engine. But I am sick of the mess. The old oil gets every where. Soon someone will put together a sound and smoke simulator and that will be the end of Petrol. SORRY. I have to agree with F100CUFFLINK.
You can build a million smoke and sound machines kellyann but a petrol engine is a petrol engine and noting beats that. I fly nitro gas and electric and enjoy all but they all have a class on their own. It s not old school etc it is what it is. The plane is not buit for gas like stated fullstop. it will break in pieces in a g turn.
you guys this is built for gas and glow ,i been flying for over 20 years and i also did convertions from glow to gas and gas to glow and this plane will hold up eithere way. If you think it wont hold to glow/gas just beef up the fire wall.
F100CUFFLINK it was not that and virdun I did not mean to Jack you conversation SORRY. It is, well I know she is designed for petrol, I was just being a Girly girl. OK. I am sick of having my hand in oil. I love my planes, we yes love! My oldest one are so oiled soaked. It gets every where. I know you just clean it off BUT one little hope in the film and it is in. Like termites. So I a GIRL shoot me. So a box that made a electric plane sound and smell like a petrol would be so cool. well that is my 5 cents THANKS
So when I say something against a product you put asterisk instead??? The product doesnt seem highly finished for the price. The kyosho one is much better and price is almost the same. plane is not detailed and the fuselage is not balsa sheeted.
Looks good , instruction disc not much good . Needs quit a bit of work to finish . Servo for retracts in fuse , need to set them up every time you take the wings off . All other stuff seems as per normal , should be easy for experienced builder . Looks same brand as 1.6 ME109 also good plane . Have 15cc gas with nitro carb should be plenty power for such light plane .

Out of the Box Review
double packed, no damage in shipping
highly lifting airfoil, so should slow down
13.46pcnt airfoil at root
14pcnt airfoil at tip
big top hatch for good access to servos and batteries
dihedral similar to Zero
aspect ratio higher than a Zero
nice completely plywood fuselage, with fewer structures and chunkier structures fuselage is strong
beautifully airfoiled tail feathers
nicely built split flaps
hole in firewall so batteries can be adjusted in front of the traditional firewall structure(2 flat 5,000 mAh batteries)
room in fuselage for 10,000 mAh of 4S power, so sport flying should get 12-15 minutes of flight time
fiberglass cowling that fits well
nice covering job
wing tubes in wing not quite aligned with root rib a few light turns of a reamer and the wings fit perfectly
one of the aspect ratio pegs in the horizontal stabilizer wasn’t aligned with the fuselage hole a little razor knife work, and it fits wonderfully
Things to Watch For:
tail control surfaces are small (scale), so set the CG carefully
small elevator area may not allow much of a nose heavy layout
you may have to keep speed up to “fly the tail”
cowling is narrow for the inline scale engine design those flying liquid fuel engines will have to let a cylinder head stick out
this is a light (8 lb) 72” scale p

I use a ASP FS91AR Four Stroke Glow Engine and I hadd to add 400 grams to the nose so try to find a light servoes for tail or use a gass engine to have more weight in the nose. Plastic Screws for the wings are not correct size !!! It is easy to see the quality, everything very nice and smooth. It needs a 7 Canal reciever unless if you can reverse a seroes for flaps and Elevator.

It took a bit of work and some mods. Servos in center and not tail, etc. Use a DLE 20. Total weight 10 lbs. This plane flys very well for a warbird. Slow take offs and landings. Does all the warbird manuvors with ease. Good control even at low speeds.
