what type of receiver should I get for this plane I am getting it for my son and would like to get it all from the same company.
 jourdan 2 points
hi, you may get a 9xr controller and frsky tx rx combo.
goldenduff  10 points - 4/30/2013

Well, I have flown the rarebear hundreds of times with no problems. It is awesome. I just could not get the spitfire to fly, the only thing I could think of was the motor mount aligment. Very annoyed as I didn't get the spit to fly at all.
 jourdan 2 points
Ya, sounds a bit annoyed. I've posted my spitfire on forum. Not sure whether the motor angle described by you is same as mine or www.link I will assemble my spitfire and try to fly with 3s. Wish you good luck. cheer!

Just checked with some other users. The motor pointing down and to right side is by design.
goldenduff  10 points - 4/29/2013

Those problems are possibly compounded by misaligned motor. I have the Rarebear and always wanted a spit. I didn't even get one flight from it- the motor was severely down and right mounted- pretty annoyed as the rarebare is so convenient and I knew what to expect. This is the first time HK has really let me down.
 jourdan 2 points
I'm just received my spitfire on today. a broken propeller with a misaligned motor (is really bad). i not sure whether it's by design or manufacturing defects? HK, could you please tell us why? tq!

Hi guys have had a lot of fun with the p47 and the p51 but built the spit this week and had to put over 100 grams of lead in nose to balance which makes it a lot heavier than the p 47 anyone else had this problem , should the CG. Be 38 mm from leading edge at the fuz
 foo barf 41 points
what type, size and weight is your battery?
 Mario 8 points
Hi ,I'm using the 4s 1000MAH and its as far forward as it can go
 lander 5 points
Try a 1300mah 4s orr larger if it fits amps arnt an issue just don't use any higher voltage and anyhowe if its fast enough to carry the weight it will give it more speed, it will penitrate the wind resistance long as cg is right you should be ok you will be landing quicker though and you may have to put in flap settings for take off and landing,,,not for beginners but pro,s like it this way I've noticed. Hope I could help.
 Mario 8 points
Thanks lander I have flown it and it is fast , it's ok with the lead in front, and I think it adds to the speed , just how I like it
RJM16  12 points - 1/19/2013

could I use the turnigy 2200mah 3s or would it be to heavy
 HomerMix 44 points
Just forget about a 3s 2200mah in this bird. Too heavy and you don't even have the space to fit it in there.
AndreDal  92 points - 1/15/2013

It flys well with 1000mAh, but the 850mAh is a perfect fit for weight and runtime.
ben  3 points - 1/9/2013

Hi guys would i be able to use a 1000mah 3cell 20c lipo in this model or would it be too heavy. thanks
 HomerMix 44 points
1000mah will fit in there. b ut you should stick to the 850mah lipos. they fit perfectly and you get the CG spot On.
 lander 5 points
Sorry homer you are very wrong, completely
 maverick51 47 points
hy ben I ve got it with a 1000mah 4s It' flying great , no problem of gravity center but I have changed the esc
Ajai1926  15 points - 12/26/2012

Nice plane, Very2 fast. I used Nanotech 4 cells 1000 mah 45-95c, but still tail heavy. I put 25 grams weight at nose to make it balance.
Tobias  3 points - 9/18/2011

A few wrote in reviews it's necessary to strengthen this little plane, how do you do this? What would be the best way to strengthen the wings and motor mount? Would a carbon rod glued inside the downside of the wing help or would be tape and a striping technique be better? What to do with the motor mount? At the moment its mounted with hot glue!? THX
 HomerMix 44 points
a carbon rod should be fine for the wings. for the motor mount i'm not sure myself. So far it still holds strong. if you are flying on 4S you may also want to tape the rudders since they tend to fall of *-p
 William 189 points
Epoxy it great on this bird
BENCHASON\  41 points - 9/8/2011

Is it as fast as the Rare-bare, or close ?
 H-KING_SCOTT 5155 points
Simliar performance
 HomerMix 44 points
the Rare bear will be faster, but the spit is amongst the fastest funfighter with it, since it has very thin wings. when flying on 4s you may want to reinforce the wings with carbon. they are not really that stable and tend to break of on high G maneuvres. Taping the ruders is a good plan too.
 MrJome80 3 points
Be skeptical - the speed differs from example to example *-)
 Sockrat 175 points
It should be faster as the fuselage is thinner (especially the cowl) and wings are thinner and more curved. Also, large main wing area should cause faster turns. But it will really need reinforcements.

Is this spitfire as tip stally as other spitfires?
 HobbyKing_Admin 8862 points
If it didnt it wouldnt be a spitfire!
However, it's going to fly so fast stalling isn't in this planes dictionary!
 HomerMix 44 points
I had no problems pulling the stick completly while landing to take of speed. sails very well. hope this answear helps you
fouda  24 points - 8/25/2011

you can put landing gear youfelf
 HomerMix 44 points
No, and you shouldn't put one on it. It's for high speed and light weight

We really need these Funfighter in EURO-WAREHOUSE!!! Lets GO HobbyKing! And add some FW 190 or BF109
 slaanesh 424 points
I don't think there is a FW-190 funfighter - though you could get a Rare-Bear and give it a paint-job.

Nein nicht von Robe. Viel Leistungsstärker :-) Very Nice Plane. Very fast. But be aware!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to reinforce the motormount (Hotglue wont held this motor for more than 5 rounds) and the wing!!!!!!!!!!! Please do reinforce the Wing!!! I didnt and just crashed mine while flying :-( The wing just brock on a sharp turn. If you just follow this littel and easy tips, you´ll have a lot of fun with this great (small) rocket.

Got mine yesterday and did the maiden flight to day, stock setup with 4s 1000mAh 45-90C.
Great speed, pretty stable and no structural integrety at all :P
First flight was fine, fast paced fun. Second flight no so good...
Takeoff and climb away, left turn back to takeoff trajectory @ full throttle SNAP! left wing ripped clean off in straight flight! XD
Plowed into ground hard!
Needless to say. It was toast, wires ripped out of servos, esc & reciver. Motor seemes fine though.

If you want to have this bird in the air at all you need to reinforce the wing, no if's or but's about it, the "carbon" rodd is hollow and prolly made from plastic. :P

In the Rare Bear the wing is reinforced with carbon strips vertical through the wing and thicker foam, and they have the same powerplant. If you want a super fast racer buy the RareBear instead, twice the thicknes in wings, fuselage is massive and can take some hard chrashes. Mine went down @ aprox. 100 km/t and all it did was ripped its wings off and cracked the cowling and breake the propp.
Easy fix with some epoxy and ductape, still flies great.

These are great fast, little planes. Only thing you need to watch is CG. We have 3, this one, Corsair and P40, all of which needed a little extra weight in front to keep it balanced. Once you get this write you'll just want to keep throwing new batteries in it. Get the 4s 850 for this one, helps balance and is a very neat fit up the front.

Maidened mine today with 4S 850 45C Nanotech lipo and upgraded 30amp esc. Plane still tail heavy even though CG was at recommended spot of 38mm behind leading edge. Did lots of down trim and managed to fly straight and level after that. With some throttle management, this setup can fly abt 7-8 mins. Flies pretty fast at full throttle but nothing compared on the multiplex funjet. Not recommended for beginners as it can be quite twitchy. Would recommended if you are looking for a fast warbird that is easy carry around.
