The motor accelerates normally but the Turnigy dLUX 160a 100a burned with care after a few seconds

Can anyone tell me if I can replace the shaft with a longer shaft? How is the shaft secured? I'm interested in having a contr-rotating prop free wheeling on the shaft.

That ESC only takes 8S, will it work fine anyhow?
Planned batteries are 4pieces of: SKU: Z80004S-30.
2 packs in parallell and the two parallell packs in series to get 16Ah and 8S.
What i want from my scooter is a lot of torque and some topspeed at around 30Km/h.

for the guys who are actually using this motor: Please advise if it's better to use it with 12S or 10S, i know the instructions says 10S and I have seen some users have it cuts off on half-throttle while using 12S but also I can only find youtube videos of this motor used with 12S,I want to use it on my GreatPlanes Yak54 25% 81" with the Dlux 160A ESC, I just need to choose the proper and better packs to go with (5S x 2) or (6S x 2) Thanks, Rogero.
I just received mine and installed it properly. i'm running on 10cells now and 12 wouldn't be a problem. just make sure that your ESC and prop handle the thing fine... and the prop is well balanced. If you have an ESC that is good enough and the timing adjusted to high you'll have a rock-solid 12cell monster :).
I'm using it in a -8kg tug with a (too small) 20*8 carbon prop. will be changing it soon to 23*8 to have 100amps at 10cell lipo

Same here...unless you know what you are doing just get a brushed motor or two, some lipo's (or sla), and the necessary controller.
If you know what you are doing with custom mounts, lipo safety with charging and balance, esc's, and what not, then get a sprocket to match whatever is on your wheel, and chain from w w w . T n c s c o o t e r s . C o m (remove the spaces) and measure how much room you have for batteries, controller, etc. My favorite battery is Turnigy Nano-tech, and six of the 3s 6000mah Nano-tech batteries fit nicely in my battery compartment (my scooter is based on a Razor E300) along with my Turnigy Dlux 160 amp hv esc, connectors, and servo tester. I am using the Rotomax 1.60 motor rather than this one just because I don't need 6 and 2/3 horsepower equivalent (number of watts/750=approximate gasoline hp equivalent). The thumb throttle connects to my turnigy servo tester which controls my esc controlling my motor. There are many forums to help you, just Google search brushless scooter motor or something like that. To pick lipos, measure allowing room for other parts, then compare size of lipos dimensions. Esc is after you know your current (amps) and voltage, pick one that meets (preferably exceeds) those requirements. Any servo tester, and an external bec. For the charger get any balance charger (used off Ebay is always great).

Brushless motors are more efficient, the best one's can peak around 95% efficient while the best brushed motors can get around 85% efficient. Brushless motors also sound cooler (in my opinion) both while running, and while being described. They (brushless) are also smaller in comparison to brushed motprs for the same power output. My current setup is (6) Turnigy 3s 6000mah nano-tech batteries to make a 9s 12000mah pack going to the Turnigy Flux 160 amp HV brushless ESC, and the Turnigy Rotomax 1.60 motor, and to control that I have a Turnigy servo tester going to my thumb throttle and for precaution I have 6 low voltage sensors (one for each battery) which monitor the individual cells to warn me whn any cell drops below 3.3 volts. The only cons of brushless motors is they are more expensive, and more difficult. Lipo batteries are similar in that their only con is they are dangerous (in comparison) and VERY expensive.
At the moment, I am using a Triton Eq. I have made a parallel balance plug adapter, and use parallel connectors to connect all of the batteries in parallel to the charger so they are all charged are balanced. This requires me to remove my batteries which is not something I always want to have to do so, sometime soon, I will be buying 6 of the little wall-wart type balance chargers which charge through the balance plug at around an amp or so and using all of those as my charger so I will be able to just plug it in and walk away.

I have this motor on a Sbach 342, at 8.0 kg. On a 23x8 wooden prop, is pulling about 70 amp wot and about 2800 watts, will go vetical till outta site. Im running 10s 5000mah pack 30c. Good tough motor, it will pull 26x12 prop as well, I may try this soon on 12s, but will be overkill for sure.

My results were for a 20 pound Extra 300. Four 5000 mAh batteries would be too much weight for this plane, but theoretically, your calculation is correct. You should deduct some amount of time for the additional load of the two extra batteries.

Hello, Motor cuts out at half throttle using 12S. Tried all four timing setting and different PWM settings with the same result. Installed 10S batteries and the motor works fine, plenty of power and the plane flies well. I have been after HK to clean up their literature (see earlier posts), as it specifees 10S in the writeup and 12S in the Specs. I spent over $600 on 6S batteries (series to 12S) based on a response from HK staff that 12S was the correct battery selection - WRONG! 10S is the answer. Carl Bullock PS 24x12 XOAR prop made a 20 pound (Aeroworks Extra 300 86" wing span) fly with authority. Lots of power.
Yeh, that Monsater 200 is a POS... get a real ESC like the Castle Creations HV160... this is what I am using (with 22x10 CF prop and 12s 5800maH) with this motor in my GP Super Stearman biplane... flies unreal!
Hello, which cable I could use to make the series cable? I use 12AWG? someone took issue with the timing, using the 200a esc monster? I used 14AWG cable but very heated .... the cable coming out of the esc is 6mm ... I am using 2 6s4000 batteries. Thank you!
I used 8 AWG wire. Functions fine with no heat build up. I use a 10 ohm resistor in parallel (pluged together first) to eliminate the spark from the ESC's 5 capacitors. Carl

The shaft of the 3 50cc RotoMax motors I received were all tapped with a 5mm standard pitch shaft centers which fits the 5mm bolts that came with the 3 1/2" spinners that I ordered from 2 USA companies (which is great!). Did anyone receive a motor with the 4mm tapped center as the description above indicates? The 160 RotoMax motors I received were tapped with 4mm standard thread centers. Carl Bullock
Im going to run 12s set up on the Rotomax 50cc electric motor will the Castle Creations 160 amp HV ESC, the specs on the motor is listed at 120 amps max current but they suggest a 180 amp esc with a 10s set up.
Description says Rotomax 50 CC is designed for 12S, but the specs stipulate that the maximum voltage is 44. Something is wrong as a 12S battery voltage range varies from 50.4 volts at full charge to 43.3 volts when charge is depleted. I just bought 2 of the 50 CC Rotomax motors today and need to know what size batteries to purchase. Thanks, Carl Bullock
Something is wrong with the write up then. The write up suggest using 10S batteries, the specs state 12S batteries and the specs state max of only 44 volts. What is the answer? HK, clean up your description & specs as they are confusing. I just purchased 8 6S batteries for making 4 pairs of 12S combos. That is a $600 investment in batteries. I hope the 12S answer is the correct one.

Hello Mark, I tested mine today, as I use a serial connector with 14AWG wire heated up enough, I'm thinking of putting the wire 12AWG ... was super strong with 12s!

Would this work good, or at all in a Traxxas E-Maxx? With all this power I think it'd go great, it's just a matter of fitting it and if the motor can handle it.
it's probably not suitable for a car, since it is an outrunner. it is very easy for dirt to get in and destroy bearings and stuff. also, a big fast spinning thing in a car just doesn't seem right...
Hi I am thinking about fitting this motor to my bicycle and running it with 3 or 4 12 volt lead acid motorcycle batteries wired in series. Would this be viable? Is there a gearbox that would be able to handle this motor? Mark
It would generate enough power and would need only a smaller gear ratio but the issue is, the motor is designed for airplanes spinning large props. If used for something like you describe it would need a heat sink, without one it may overheat without the airflow a plane motor usually gets.
Cooling is an issue, also the service life of this motor. Most airplane motor(nit sure about this one) are usually make for short operation time, like fly for 10-15 minutes and stop for a while. 20-30 hrs is a long working life for such motor.
A very old type of gear for motorcycles/bicycles is the frontwheel-tire driven by a rubber-thing that is much smaller than the wheel. Just calculate the size of the wheel and the speed of the motor to see if the bike gets to slow or too fast ...
Isn't it kind of strange that it would perform better, and be lighter that a 700 dollar motor.

RC Andries, a $700 motor is $700 because of middlemen (store and distributor) and brand image. Stores and distributors both want to make 50-100% margins each. And online stores selling the same brand are given a 'MAP' Minimum Advertised Price so that the stores wont be upset. You're buying from the factory here. It's simple math, no magic.
i wonder if you make a quadrocopter-type platform, install 4 such engines on it with props, ESCs, and batteries underneath the platform, quadrocopter controller, and than stand on it, can you fly around like on the magic carpet??
So are single piston engine planes, but they stick with it for a reason**- reliability. Double the motors = 50% less reliable. You can go on and on about an octa being more redundant/reliable, etc. but its simply not true.

I have a dodeca with small motors torque 1KG.
This copter is very stable and can fly With 6 death motors.
By rough calculation this motor would produce approximately 33 pounds of thrust. Since you have to lift the motors themselves plus batteries and supporting structure etc, a quadracopter made up of these would only lift a small child so it would have to be more like ten of these motors to lift a typical adult.
you can fly , but all weight it's around 40kg,you must use 12 of this motor for fly you and lipo battery, for 2 or 3 minutes of flytime.
all is possible, :-)
what about spares for these big motors? Yeah nice sensibly priced large motor. . What if you need a shaft for example or some non warranty item. . Not that there is much to go wrong of course. Date

I got impatient so retro fitted the rotomax into my Hanger 9 260 27pcnt, the whole conversion from DLE55 to rotomax took about 2hours and consists of 2 x 6s 5000mah turnigy Lipos, 160HV speedy and the prop off the DLE which is a 23x8 carbon Mej.
Results on Eflite watt meter 4580watts @ 103 amps after 20sec

The motor has a bearing with problems,it totally jammed 2 times:(practically you can not use this motor).
Money throw away. I think you can not find a replacement of the bearing o internet because is not usual dimension. And is very hard to dismantle this motor. I tried once but without success.
I do not want to send it back because of paying a lot of money on transport. May it is possible to find a replacement bearing i will search after i know what is the broken bearing.
Not a god quality management.
I also have a C80 6kw Turnigy motor with the same bering problem from factory. Sad for me.

Measured Data: Kv= 190; Ri=16mOhm; Io=2.3A@8V; Weight 1070gr.
Motor has 28poles and 24 tooths. Mechanical precision very good.
Winding could be better to come down with Ri to Hacker Q80-8M but at this price an excellent motor.
