The Hobbyking ASK21Mi scale glider is made from tough EPO foam, features super fast assembly (only 3 screws to assemble the whole model) is easily transportable and has other unique, practical and exciting features that makes this one seriously good value for money Plug & Fly Model!
At over 2 metres, this is a good size glider and for flying off any surface, the ASK21Mi has no less than 5 wheels, including a sprung, steerable nosewheel and wingtip wheels! It also has in inbuilt tow hook for use as an unpowered glider but what really makes this model exciting is the servo powered motor pod that folds neatly behind doors and into the fuselage, making for a streamlined and scale looking glider once you have powered up to altitude. The powerful brushless motor being mounted out of harms way, gives you the option for a powered take off from the ground, grass or pavement, this glider can handle it all!
Specs: Wing span: 2028mm Length: 1010mm Flying Weight: 780g Motor: 1500kvOutrunner Brushless Motor ESC: 20A w/BEC Servo: 4 x 9g + 1 x 48g 5 channel (aileron, throttle, elevator, rudder/steering, motor pod)

You can fit FVP to any aircraft, you need to be mindful of the weight ensure you don't upset your centre of gravity. You may need to balance weight the aircraft depending on where you mount it. Also be aware of your engines power to weight ratio you may also need to consider adjusting your prop pitch as well.
Would not make a good fpv plane in my opinion. High stall speed, limited room, minimal battery capacity. Much better off with a plane such as Bixler 2 for FPV. Way better platform.
excellent plane, one of the screw on wings wouldnt stay it place, kept slipping out and the push rod was broken. i could fix these with a new push rod and glue, im still not totally happy on that sid eof it but. a bit of wing flex but you need to expect that from a 2 metre wing. on the possitive side, very well designed motor pod and very durable. Under the canopy its a bit crowded but otherwize awesome plane. I still dont regret buying it as its great value for money and at my local hobbyshop it would be close to 600 bucks.
There have been some questions regarding the retraction of the motor pod, and the possibility of the rubber stopper being damaged by shutting it down and retracting quickly (and therefore rather brutally). The easiest way to ensure success every time is to fit a servo speed reducer, and slow down the retraction speed. I added one to my DG 1000, so the pod retracts nice and slowly, minimising any chance of damage to the stopper, while popping up at full speed in case you need power in a hurry. It is also possible to have the prop up and wind-milling by adjusting the throttle stick to not be fully down http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem .asp?idProduct=8863
ok this plane has serious wing flex issues, i maidened this on the weekend and the wing flex was unstable, the plane was horrible to fly. I think i will call the store nd return the unit tomorrow, for the price it is not a good plane at all!
jaskel big woop if it has flex issues use more carbon fibre through the whole plane hobby king cant help it it over 2 metres and a glider what do you expect or otherwise you can put some of them cessna things on to support the wing. for 100 bucks its a bargain actually go to try to buy this at your local hobby shop it would be over 500 bucks, you wont find cheaper then hobby-king!
Love it!!! Looks awesome a flys really well. Needs the extra carbon for the wing flex if your gonna throw it through aeros and it gets a bit crowded under the hood but its heaps of fun once thats sorted. Fantasic piece of kit.
I had the same issues with wing flex. I appreciate it is a cheap glider, but to be honest it's a terrible design flaw. The wings were flexing drastically in a 15kmh wind while ridge soaring.... that should not happen. I can not recommend this glider until the manufacturer fixes the flex issue.
My first fly of this ASK21 was scary. I though the wings will clap. Any vertical gust or pitch changes is tranformed to a flapping wing. I bonded three tows of carbon fibber with laminating resin under the wing exactly were the spar is, but outside and the wing itself stoped flapping but there is nothing simple or easy to do with internal (and center)reinforcement as the center spar holder is a fix dihedral unit. So it is doesn't matter how rigid you can make the wing, the problem of weakness still at the center

This is a very pretty glider (looks great mounted on my wall), and I had my value in playing and getting it ready for flight. However, there are significant issues that make for a challenging flight (which could be overcome with time) but it is not for the inexperienced or if you are after something to fly 'out of the box'. Speed controller was also DOA so swapped it out. Ran motor extension from slider control so extension speed was OK.
1. Flexible wings (glass spars) make for significant aeroelastic challenges in flight. I'll try to fix with glass packing tape on lower surface.
2. Lots of friction in elevator circuit resulting in 'stick-slip' behaviour and inconsistent elevator centring. This despite lots of work pre-flight freeing it up (and wax lubrication in desperation)
3. Significant CG shift between motor positions.
1 2 3 = super hand-full in flight!
Hand-launched due to rough surface (and potential for nose-wheel control to jam with leads in fuselage), needed plenty of up elevator due to nose-down couple created by high thrust line.
Plenty of potential but lots of refinement needed (I'm not there yet after 5 hours).

Thank you for your response.
I can send you a pic of the faulty esc but it has no visible
signs of damage - It simply doesn't work. Like the review
from "platypus", it was doa.
I have read "platypus" review and in the main it reflects
my experience with this model.
I replaced both the elevator and rudder push rods as
they were binding and a real potential problem while in
flight. I used a lighter gauge wire and this has resulted
in a freer mechanism on both controls.
The actuator for the motor pod was too fast and too
violent in both directions. It was like the car door being
slammed by a frustrated girlfriend every time the motor
pod was either extended or retracted. I have obtained
one of your electronic gismos to slow down the travel
in order that the door slamming effect is softened. I
have concerns that the pod does not fully retract on
each occasion. If this happens in flight it would have
a serious effect on the servo in the stalled position and
the resultant effect on the electrics and the battery drain.
Platypus is right. There is significant flex in the wings. The
rods in the wings seem to be able to prevent the wings
from breaking but are not strong enough to prevent the
wings for continually flexing whilst in flight. The wing tips
flex as much as 18 inches (450 mm) and this adversely
affects the flight characteristics. The wing rods need to

My wife purchased this airplane for me for Christmas. The first thing I noticed when removing the wings from the undamaged box were two broke wing tips. I contacted HK about the problem, sent them all of the photos they requested then they insulted me by offering a $3.00 store credit to replace both broken wings. Therefore I made internal reinforcements and glued the wings back together myself. The the esc was DOA so I had to replace that. As for flying, it needs more elevator, but the mechanism to control the elevator is not up to having a bigger elevator. The clamps for the wings are insufficient to properly hold the wings on in flight, and the wings will not even mate up properly to the fuselage. The motor pod is a nice concept, but cannot redeem the other short comings. Overall this is a very poor quality, poorly designed rc aircraft that is not backed by the seller. Don't waste your money.

Glider arrived packed well. Fitting the receiver proved to be a challenge and I also removed the steerable nose wheel for a better look.
Found the prop would catch the doors when retracting.
First flight with a 1300mA 3S nan-tech lipo was a bit exciting as the CG seemed too far back. Added more nose weight and the flight characteristics were better, but the model would drop one wing in the stall.
Wing flex very interesting.
