Built from strong yet light weight Ply wood and glass fiber materials the HobbyKing Quadcopter frame provides the perfect test bed or starting point for any Quadcopter enthusiast. The HobbyKing Quadcopter frame comes with the main components pre-assembled right out of the box. The interlocking parts make assembling the entire frame easy. Light weight nylon nuts, bolts and spacers have been included to keep the flying weight down. The Camera tilt mechanism also includes a vibration dampening system to combat rolling shutter effects.

The frame is partially assembled and lightly glued. Be sure to use CA on all joins during assembly and before flying. Nylon screws may vary in color between black or white.
This is a good cheap frame that I use because it is light and the camera mount is effectively isolated from the rest of the heli, but it will not survive a crash. So, if you start with this frame, I'd buy two for spare parts. If you want something stronger, then what TriNitro recommended would work, or the SK450.
I don't know any quad that survive a crash ... at best a prop get broken ... often a motor mount get broken too
I did crash few time my V1 frame, and always fixed back with some glue in no time ... wood can be glue back easily.
Since is wood, this frame absorbe better vibrations compared to other frames ..

i have some 11 inch rotors,does anyone know if these will work with this? the gap between them with the measurement i saw below is about 15mm clearance between the ends of the props. I am using some 30mm 850kv motors. any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
This frame is very light ... as well is not very strong
I'm using 8x4 3 blades prop and micro 1500kv donkey motors on 3s lipo.
But yes, there is space up to 12inch prop .. 11 inch will fiy, but it does not sound a good idea
thanks, i have also grabbed a set of 10x6 props aswell to see how they go.i ordered one yesterday so i will use it as a basis to get everything working in sync and perhaps look at building a frame and having it cut out of a block of metal once i have a better idea how everything is going to fit as i have also ordered fpv gear to go with :)
Yes you can. Or better you can build this quad without adding/using the camera mount.
Personally I dont use camera mount too, and I keep that space for batteries
I'm planning on using this frame with D2830-11 1000kv Brushless Motor, Turnigy Multistar 30 Amp Multi-rotor Brushless ESC, Hobbyking KK2.0 Multi-rotor LCD Flight Control Board and a Rhino 4900mAh 4S1P 25C Lipoly Pack. Would this work? If so, what size/kind of prop should I use?
Was thinking about trying the 2205c - 1400kv motors. Use them on my small foamies with great luck and already have them and 4 12amp HK blue esc. I'm just going for ultra light for fun with this one. Think I could make the frame even lighter with a few minor mods. Whatcha guys think?? Thanks :)

I ordered this V1 frame and it came with everything, the screws are packed inside a small plastic bag and the screws are made of white plastic not metal. Glued it all together and used the plastic screws without any problem.
My quadcopter frame arrived today with no instructions. I have no idea if I have all the parts since there is no documentation. The arms were pre-assembled, and I have no problem with that, but are there assembly instructions that I can download?
A slim battery can fit inside the two wood plate ... on top the control board, on the bottom the camera mount ... in the middle the battery. In practice, personally I don't use the camera mount ... and I have big space for battery
The kit comes with 2 velcro straps that can be used to hold the battery just beneath the bottom plate. Try mounting the camera first to get the CG set. After that you can still mount the battery.
No servos are required, a Quadcopter is controled by changing the power to each motor. You are going to need a flight controler such as a wii board or KK board.
Its made like that so you can tell what's the front of the copter! It wont matter if you're doing a different configuration though. Im painting mine all flat black so it looks much sleeker... although I might paint it silver and have some fun with it in the city!
Well after running this frame for quite a while now, with all fair share of crashes and bad landings i think it need a replacement.
Any Advice on the replacement so i can move all the electronic over?

this frame is good, but its fragile, I broke mine to. I bought the hobbyking glasfiber x666 frame. Its a bit bigger than thisone, for more stability. It doesn't really matter what frame you're using. hobbyking sells many good ones. you could use all of them! hope this helped
I went to my local DIY store and purchased a wood rod (30mm x 15mm) for making the frame and also a couple of plastic food trays for storing lipo, escs and flight controller.
This are my recommend are enough to lift around 1.5Kg, but I am think these fame is too fragile for this motors:

i have tested lifting 2 5800mah 2S Harcdase Lipo and 2x 2200mah 3S lipo all at once and it lifted at around 60% throtle. 1200kv Emaxx Motor, 0905 prop hover at 37A. :) Frame is quite strong. I think it can lift a bit more weight since vertical acceleration is still very quick.
As the wood itself is rather light (the frame weighs 195 gram) it basically depends on what you want to spend and what kind of performance you need. Unter Hobbyking->Multicopters->Motors you'll find suitable motors, and in the reviews and comments (click on "show all") you will find many info about successful combinations. More important is to use ESCs that can handle the fast frequency. As myself, I used CF 28-22 brushless 1200kv (cheap but work). 2410 seem to work quite nicely too. Best i

You need 4x motor, 4x props (2 counter-rotating), 4x ESCs, a flight controller board, RX, some cable and zip ties to connect them all together. I'd also recommend a USBasp programmer for the flight controller to change the firmware, and a big bottle of CA to stiffen the frame up.
It assembles without glue, but it's a little flexible and lacking in strength like that, even with the nuts tightened solidly. It's worth running some CA along all the joints, especially on the arms where they meet the main body of the frame - it's much stiffer and stronger then.
Is this board plug and fly or is programming required before use? I'm looking for a inexpensive controller board that doesn't require flashing or programming. By the way, how difficult is it to flash this?
In case of KK board or HK or similar, the arrow on the electronics must point the arm you choose to use as 'fore'. This frame normally has 3 arms of the same color and 1 different, which is the 'nose'* if not, choose an arm and make it easily recognizable.

Advice: build a light strong frame. Not kidding here. Also I recommend to use a auto balancing board that will stabilize the quad automatically when you release the cyclic stick. Gives you nice stable video/pics. Balance your motors and props, this does more then one thinks. Make sure you weight is underneath the quad, that improves stability also. Finally, you have quit big props for those engines. I use a 2822 with triple blades 9x5 props and a 30A ESCs. Gives quit high trust to lift those hea
If you're going to shoot it the perfect frame for the survey. It's very convenient for mounting the camera. If you know how to fly, the cheaper version you will not find it. But I do not recommend this to learn from the frame with the camera. It is better to buy a frame even easier. They are on our favorite site.
I could not find 9x5. what about 3 Blade EP Propeller 9x7. I am buying FC 28-22 Brushless Outrunner 1200kv. My question is, is 1200kv batter or below 1000kv to lift the camera system?

Really good and well designed frame, bought 2 and spent ~2-3 hours to assemble frame. Very convinient construction, i embedded 20A ESC inside arms and used basement for power distribution system. Assembled copter looks very nice, i didnt fly yet - trying to configure ardupilot, telemetric etc electronics :)
Also i liked plastic screws :) really.

Great Frame, Fantastic Price - other Chinese suppliers is asking $ 80 for exactly the same. But landing gears are very poor. Mine broke on first landing and it was not very hard. I will make a set of new landing struts that are are mounted to the base of all four arms. Will attach a picture when it's done. Also camera mount should be further down so that you can put battery in between camera and underside of frame. Will modify this and file a picture accordingly

Yes, this is a great frame to start experimenting quadcopters with. I've build mine with 100pcnt HobbyKing parts, except the control board (= FY90Q)
The pre-cut ply wood made the assembly go very quickly and needed just a little tweeking. The CF 28-22 motors are great (you need to dril new holes in the arm) and in comination with the GWS HD8040 3-blade it give loads of thrust. I choose the smaller 8040 3-blades because they rev-up more quickly during descent-breaking. Please, note to ballance them ..
Had 6 flights so far with /- 4 minutes and will try 4000mah later. 1 hard landing but the ply wood frame construction can handle it easily. Ordered another frame for spare. I thought to use this frame just once or twice to get a feeling about quodcopters before it crashes but it looks like I will fly this one longer and wait before I start building an DIY alloy frame. This ply wood frame is good for an incredible price !!
