Is this servo good for a 45" long, and 60" wingspan plane. For my first scratch built plane.
 kev.keene 158 points
For what surface? may be ok for aileron, depends on many things, best bet is to find a plane that hk sells as a kit that is similar length, wingspan, cord, wing type and weight and then see what they are using or suggesting for servos in it.

Has anyone used the HKSCM9-6 version,4.8-6.0V.How does it compare with this version, HKSCM9-5,using a 5V BEC?
 CReal 3 points
A guy on my field uses the 6v version and he said that is good, I use this this is good also but we didnt compare the two. If you are planning to use 5v then use this.

What the frame rate and Hertz rate? Dont want burn them up Thank you

I've been using a Hyperion servo on the tail of my HK250 but the mounting on the case broke so I changed to the HKSCMS-9 with a AVCS mini mems gyro on 1520, 250 setting I have now burnt out two servo's with and have not used a full battery charge. I'm using a Hobbywing Pentum 5v 2a esc does any one have any idea as to what I am doing wrong.

i have to replace two tail servos of a zephyr v70. is this servo suitable??
 volto 41 points
You definitely want a metal gear servo on the elevator since if that fails, it will be practically unrecoverable.
alex nice  23 points - 12/6/2012

My experience : i never had a servo wich gear breaks so easily. Perhaps i am a bad pilot. No, Very bad!
 CrashAce 815 points
There are two schools of thought on servos. **-1. buy cheap and just replace them when they fail. **-2 buy expensive and they'll last forever.****** I just installed 4 of these on mt 800mm racer series plane. They are quiet fast and don't twitch like some do. I haven't flown/crashed it yet so I guess that will be the real test. I did buy two extra though just in case.
 alex nice 23 points
I think i crash to often.
 CrashAce 815 points
Yeah me too! I try to buy low to mid cost servos. though I've only strip-out 3 servos do to crashes. I best servos I ever bought burned up mid flight on the maiden of my first (and only) scratch build. (I set the servo frequency on my stabilizer too high.) I would have rather learned that lesson on a cheap EPO. I'll build again ...some day.
 volto 41 points
One more school of thought, buy cheap metal gear servos and you have the best of both worlds. Although if you are going for supreme light weight, these servos are acceptable.
 CrashAce 815 points
Metal gear servos are good for large/high toque control and rarely strip on a rough landing. Cheap MG servos could still be twitchy, have centering problems, or a short 'electrical' life.

Hello, anybody knows the servo settings for assan 250 gyro.

Thanks great.
M@verick  29 points - 10/20/2012

do any one now if there is any replacement gears that fits this servo?
 WTWUK 1567 points
None I am aware of, but the price of a new servo is so low it would not really be worth the bother. Just buy a few extra servos as spares.

 uberjay 25 points
I have no idea what you just said Levi. Google Translate was no help. Please restate in English/French/German/etc. Thanks!
 uberjay 25 points
By the way, I have increased the friction on the ailerons and this has improved the situation. I added some of the fuzzy/soft side of velcro to the side of the plane between the fuse and the edge of the aileron. The added friction is helping the servos to find their centres. Looks ugly, but it seems to help. So until there are better ideas I guess I have an ugly plane *-).

Hello These servos can be connected to a radio futaba
 NotDeadYet 198 points
Yes. The JR style plug is a Futaba plug that is non-keyed. In other words, yes, just make sure the signal wire is in the right spot. If you get it wrong you just have to turn it around though, it wont hurt the servo.
 majik01 2907 points
The servos cannot be connected to the radio - they connect to a receiver that should be matched with the futaba radio - just my 2 cents ....

Hello! I set gyro 250Hz/1520uS. I use GA-250 gyro in HK 450GTpro with tail servo HKSCM9-5, and in low speed rotor it work good, but in rotor akcel/high speed vibrate tail in 3-5Hz/10CM on tail.? I dont have picture and manual of mounting GA-250 on 450 heli and 250 heli (best distance of rotor axis and best position mounting? )Thanks.
 JelleB 478 points
turn down the gain on your gyro. Usually that is the extra signal connected to your receiver. One way is heading hold, the other is rate-compensation only. Oscillation can occur in both modes when the gyro is correcting too much and overshoots. Usually you also have a potmeter on your gyro that can increase the sample time, which is useful if your servo is not too quick. Also, be aware that this is a very cheap servo, you should not expect high end specs from it...
 StefanX 25 points
Maybe there are other thing cause more vibrations. Check all connections and screws. Also check the distance of the tail to main drive. Maybe the cable from gyro to servo/TX vibrates i would advise you to check that as well

I purchased four of these servos for my HK 450 V2 heli. I am having an issue that seems to be the problem with each of them. When I apply hook the battery up to my speed controller, the servos keep "glitching" and make small jerks in either direction. I am using the Turnigy 9X v2 radio and 8 channel receiver that comes with it. I am using the Turnigy Trust 45 speed controller which states a BEC voltage of 5.5 volts. I am using a 3 cell LiPo. The issue is present both when the transmitter is turned on and when it is off. I can't hardly imagine that a half volt on the high side can cause this issue. Someone please help! Thanks, Superjon
 olisoft 154 points
Try to use receiver battery to test if it's not a problem with your ESC. Disconnect ESC from the receiver, connect 5V supply to the receiver and you'll see if it's with your receiver. Try also checking the servos with a servo tester but I think it's without problems.

I had a HobbyKing 25 amp speed controller as well that I tried as per your advice. The rated voltage for the BEC on this speed controller is 5 volts. Needless to say, these servos DO NOT like anything over 5 volts. The 5.5 volts out of the Turnigy Trust 45 amp ESC drove these things crazy. I would be willing to say they would probably have burned up had I let them run at that voltage for any extended period of time.
Now, I need another speed controller because the 25 amp model is not strong enough to handle the loads for my 450 V2 heli according to my research.
...three more weeks!
Thanks for the advice!!!

anyone know what the frequency and pulse width of these are? (so I can set my gyro correctly)
 rs_hdx 6 points
use 250Hz/1520uS setting on your gyro * on my HK-450v2 with GA-250 MEMS it works without problem (no jitter, no overheat).
 Crazy-Heli 13 points
For my HK-250 i use 1520uS with GA-250 gyro. No problems, all works without any problems!
 Crazy-Heli 13 points
It work with 5,5 volts, no problems!
Dean711  1 points - 4/11/2011

My 5V BEC is actually 5.3V. the description says do not operate at more than 5V. How much voltage can these handle?
 Mindaugas 29 points
Don't worry about that. You can use max 6v. Regards, Mindaugas
 edulago 13 points
Probably 0.3 V will not be enougth to burn your servo. But an official answer from hobbyking about its tolerance would be good.
 Krzysztof 27 points
I cross the parameters of 0.5V and have not noticed any worrying signs. Also enjoy without any worries:)
 Karim Guimaraes 9 points
I think 5.3Volts works fine. I plugged in my BEC 6V and the servo overheated, the wires are wrinkled my fail =/ be careful!!!
 westy54 3 points
if you are really worryd use use a voltage regulator witch you solder in line on the red wire and the only cost about a $1.00 each or less

will this servo handle ds mode on the hk401b gyro or will it destroy it

I am running one on the tail of my 450 with a gy401 futaba and its fine in DS mode on that. hope this helps.

That's great news, thanks! 'Old' rate gyros are somehow expensive :).
 Noobie 69 points
What setting did you use for this servo on the GA250, Hz wise. It's not posted on the specifications and I hope they will because it's hard to set the gyro up without that info I would think.
 david2436 26 points
Hi, I just tested with the default settings straight out of the box. Perhaps not the best, but it worked fine.

Weighs 9.9g with wire and plug. The arms are the same as on the HXT900 servos, convenient. Tested one to destruction by manually twisting the servo arm, it did not give a milimeter before the gears stripped. The two gears that stripped are compatible with HXT900 replacement gears, although the ratio isn't exactly the same. You have to change both of the two last gears. It now works perfectly again.

Measurements: - weight 9.85g without horn and screw. - dead band 2us. This is a digital version of the HK15178 and seems to come from the same factory as the HXT900. I have two and both work smooth and well, center nicely. Price/quality is awesome especially if the servo proves to be reliable.

Habe 10 Stk. Servospiel ist leider sehr groß, auch wenn Strom auf dem Servo ist. Soll aber lösbar sein mit Getriebetausch von HXT900, werde das mal Probieren.
