hi, can anyone tell me if i want to build hk500 what servos, motor,ESC and gyro should i buy? medium budget thanks
 StevenC 557 points
Normally 500 size heli run on 2600-3000mah, either 5S or 6S batteries. If you run 5S then a 1800KV will be required, but if you run on 6S then you need a 1400KV. As for ESC, 60A is minimum but the higher the better. I would not recommend the HK401B, it works well but too sensitive. It killed many servos on my 450. For the cyclic, get metal Park size servos like Turnigy MG930. For the tail you will need a faster servo which works around 0.07-0.08sec like the HKS-9257.

Hi. Can anyone tell me wich 1 is better torque tube or belt?
 StevenC 557 points
TT = better efficiency but crashes more costly. Belt = cheaper

Hi Boon34, I definitely agree, the TT will be a little more stable and you might find it more responsive (Depending on your level of experience). It is certainly worth the extra cost in my opinion.

Hey everyone, im looking to buy a model helicopter kit for my boyfriend for a present, he's never built a model helicopter/model anything before, but expressed interest into it.
can anyone give me a few pointers as to what is a good starting helicopter and what i need???
Thanks xx
 StevenC 557 points
Hi Saraya, this is a very nice present of you. In my opinion, the 500 is a good helicopter but quite big and hence it may not be good one to learn flying, it would be quite dangerous. Check out the 450GT Pro Belt Driven, this might be a better and cheaper one to start with.

In the process of buying HK 500CMT however am confused as to (a) what servos ? and do you need a special servo for the tail rotor.
Any ther parts that should be updated.
Thanks for forthcoming help

if your shopping from the HK website look at servos in the park servo category, they are the correct size. As far as a tail servo goes, still use a park servo but get fast one, cyclic probably needs a bit more power than speed, tail needs more speed than power

I am a confused beginner - started with indoor Blades (MX,MSR,120SR) now purchased a TREX 500 from local club (totally rebuilt) about to set it up with training legs and first flight. But I would like to start building another 500 to make me more familiar with the workings of RC helis and as a source of spares, and as a future heli for when I get more confidence - WHAT SHOULD I ATTEMPT?
 leona 10 points
read other forums than this one, lots of info out thier, 500 is a good mid size machine

really sorry but have no idea where to ask this so put it here for now..... Hobbyking/Jason is there any chance we could see TRICOPTERS QUADS and HEXCOPTERS as either Kits,Parts or RTF/BNF units coming from you anytime soon please? i would be happy to help with designs and wiring if needed and you already sell MOST of the electronics we use :) or how about flight stabilization boards? like the flymentor but built specifically for multi rotor heli's ? i think its time to bring these items to Hobbyking as they are perfect for the new generation of FPV addicts that will be flooding the market over the coming years :)
 Naden 123 points
I agree with your statement, M3m1s1s.
Prebuilt frames, pusher props...etc...

C'mon HK

What a great little heli, yes some parts are a bit weak, but very cheap upgrades are available everywhere, and like everyone says loctite every screw, nut , bolt, same on any heli, takes a bit of time to set up, lots of set up and problem solving online, helifreak, finless bobs videos are invaluable, very detailed. heli flys very nicely, waiting for a flymentor stabiliser and a few more alloy & carbon parts, I don"t like plastic, some parts don"t really matter, Prices at HOBBYKING make it easy to enjoy these "weapons", shipping from honk kong can be a bit slow, sometimes, from AUS warehouse is fast,, overall a great heli for the price , if your an expert pilot, doing mad 3d flying, may need better , otherwise you cant go wrong with these, I am planing to put a scale fuselage, "airwolf", 5 blade head and tail on soon , when budget allows, just hope i don"t plough it into the ground!!!

Yes like someone else said tail rotor blade grip bolt broke, throwing blade off [new carbon] with the grip, took out boom [new carbon] torque tube, vert stabilizer, bent the shaft , snapped the pitch control, had to replace complete tail, bought the parts all over the place to get them in pieces so i can replace the cap screws, i got some m1, m2, m3s in grade 12 [very hard] from engineering supply, one screw i could not remove from the rotor shaft i just filed the head off with a small file!! like butter, that little screw cost me @$90au, lucky it wasn't in the air!

Got mine from the Aussie warehouse in double quick time. Had read reports about low quality and loose screws with these kits but I must say, had no probs with mine. All were tight and seemed good quality.
Of course, loctited just to be sure.
Kit is all built up (pleasure to assemble) and just waiting for electrics to arrive from HobbyKing.
Once completed and tested I will finish this review.
