MIG-15 Fighter R/C Ducted Fan Jet Plug-n-Fly (USA Warehouse)

The HK Mig-15 foamie is as much fun to fly as it is attractive. The 30A 64mm ducted fan provides more than enough power and the large intake/exhaust make for rapid acceleration and easy takeoffs.

How the heck do you fit a battery in this thing? I finally got mine in the mail yesterday, and I got a 1800 mAh battery, but it won't fit. I have a 1300 mAh battery that only barely fits, but I see people using 2200s by cutting out a little foam. Does anyone have any pictures of post-cutout battery compartment?

The only thing you can do, take a long sharp knife and widen the battery compartment. I don't have any pics, mine didn't survive long. The elevator ripped of coming out of a dive and I haven't bothered to rebuild. If I may make another suggestion, spar the elevator and and re-hinge it with tape before you fly. I did extend the elevator control surface on mine by 1/2 inch, it really helped... until the whole damn thing ripped off.

Interesting...see, my battery it too long. It pokes up into the cockpit. I guess I have to cut out the seat or something. Also, what did you do about the elevator control rods? Mine won't push the elevator up. The servo arm just kind of bends and the control rod flexes instead of pushing the elevator up. Pulling it down isn't as much of a problem. Did you replace the control rod with a stiffer one?

I had to remove the bottom part of the canopy so the battery would actually stick up to the pilots seat. Also, I used a small block of balsa to support the control rods behind the servo to stop them from flexing.

I ordered this Mig last week, and it has been "being packed in the warehouse" for 5 days now. I'm starting to wonder if they actually have any in stock.

never mind, issue resolved. in messing around with the beeps of the esc and the tx's throttle position i managed to reset the esc. if anyone has this issue let me know.

i just got the mig-15, but upon hooking it up to rx/tx, it does not engage the motor until just past 60% on the tx. i need any and all suggestions on what to do. the programmable tx is set correctly with throttle points, and works well without problem on my other models.

Has anyone flown this aircraft and if so where do you have the cg

Place the battery as far forward as possible. Always remember to throw it straight as possible when launching. I use the under hand toss. Flies great slow and fast. Was my first EDF love it ,love it,love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10.5 inches back from the lower leading point of the intake.

where do you mount the reciever/battery how hard is this model to assemble
 sking0369 57 points
The battery and rx are installed under the canopy. I used a JR rx and installed it in the whole supplied for that, though was a little tight. I also installed a 2200 mah 3cell, this batter was a little big and heavy but I didn't use the landing gear and therefore no nose wheel/servo. Was just about right except I did have to use 1/2oz weight in the rear to get the cg right. If I was to do again probably go with a 2000mah batt. Not hard to assemble at all.

Has anyone tried a 14.8 in one yet? If so what size have you been able to fit?
 F100CUFFLINK 879 points
YES GO WITH A RINO NO LARGER THAN 2000MAH AND CHAGE ESC THAT SUITS THE SETUP 4S
 1stAidan 104 points
I'm using the Zippy 4 cell 1800mah. it required some foam removal and a 60amp esc.
Ek-trician  307 points - 3/19/2011

Is it EPO foam? Dosen't look like it.
 slaanesh 424 points
It's EPS. You can see that foam beads are quite small.

This looks a lot like the Old Wattage Mig. IT should be OK with Our new more powerful ducted fans and lipos

I have this model on order. Anyone have a comment as to the correct CG (center of gravity) location? Previous experience with other foam EDF's is the manufacturer never gets it right in the manual. It's usually too far aft. Anyone?

Douglas, Try around 25% of the mean Aerodynamic Chord.{measured from the leading edge about halfway out on the wing].

Nice little jet! Only thing I can say is to use a 2200 40C battery to start balance is much better than with the 1600 20C they recommend.
Thats with the landing gear on it.
Mods will come after I fly it a few times like this, no speed deamon but fun! quit a challange in 10mph or higher winds!LOL

The elevator servo shaft flexed is the housing, replaced with Tower Pro MG90S. It's EXTREMELY under powered. The elevators are much to small for responsive flight. The ESC (which is placed directly behind the fan.. worse placement ever) survived for exactly 54 seconds of flight before it smoked (ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 3S1P 20C).

For the good- Very easy build. Looks amazing in flight. Very stable, and tough. The EDF is balanced perfectly, and sounds awesome.

I plan to upgrade the plane for a 4 cell battery and enlarge the elevators.

absolute best edf i have flown and seen. weather finally let up after a couple months of waiting, and this flew like a charm. 3rd flight, a tree hopped out of no where and grabbed it. but in the end, there was no damage after 25ft of tree.

This is the Art-Tech Mig and for those that like the Mig-15 this is at once the most scale of the available flying models and once modified the best flyer of them.

Two mods are necessary to turn this plane jane flyer into a favorite. First the EDF unit must be repositioned so that it's trailing edge is 5 inches from the end of the thrust tube. Simply cut a new hatch along the manufacturers panel lines. The second is to use an 1800mah 25c Lipo.
