This plane has a problem with the center of gravity, leans forward when he placed the battery. ? I should do to correct this problem I can compensate by putting weight graavedad center in the queue?

Are there any aftermarket motor mounts or DIYs?
Luis J  1 points - 2/5/2013

I just recently purchased this airplane from the USA warehouse. I got it within a reasonable amount of time. I’*m a big helicopter freak but this airplane is very nice in terms of size, details and performance and from what I’*ve read and seen on you tube, it makes for a good beginner model. I can’*t wait to test it. My only question is depending on what I break, does anyone know if you can reorder specific parts for it? I’*m almost certain that I will have to use a little ingenuity if I break a wing or something along those lines but just thought I would ask ahead of time thx.
 Steven 8 points
Hobby King does carry a number of replacement parts for this plane. You would order them from the international warehouse. A couple of those parts are: 1) 2 replacement props and spinner SKU B5041 2) replacement vert, stabilizer SKU P-51PNP-ELV 3) replacement landing gear SKU B5051

 bigdog100 1 points
Is this one easy to hand launch?
 Frank77 270 points
bigdog100 I've never hand launched this one before as I've always flown it with the landing gear on the plane. I'm sure it would hand launch fine though as it has a lot of trust with that big 4 blade prop.
 bigdog100 1 points
Thanks, i ordered the T-28 650mm, looks like that would be better and hand launch, may try to put gear on it.
hudsonaj36  11 points - 1/3/2012

Any one else have problems with the weak landing gear? What did you do? Mine bend very easily.
Thanks
 Bixler13 31 points
Same problem here. Be very carefull when bending them back... I broke my landing trying to bend it back so i made it a belly lander
 hudsonaj36 11 points
I am looking into puting some parkzone gear on it. Let you know how it goes.
 modifiedmustang 524 points
How did the gear swap go. I like this plane a lot but tired of bending the gear back after every landing (even gentle ones).

 hudsonaj36 11 points
I ended up getting the parkzone corsair landing gear. Had to bend them a bit here and there. Also had to trim a bit off of them. After the small mods they fit nicely in the mustang gear holders and are much stronger.

How does this bird compare to the PKZ Trojan p-28? I have seen several people at the field learning with the Trojan and was thinking about getting this one to teach my son...
 Bixler13 31 points
I havent flown a pkz p-28 but this plane flyies great. it would be a great plane to teach your son on. it also flyies slow great. if you get it i would do the canopy mod to fit bigger batteries and get the cg right. look it up on youtube
 modifiedmustang 524 points
My son cut his teeth on this as his first low wing. It's so light that it floats well for a mustang. I bought him the art-tech corsair after the mustang, and it's even more of a floater. I'd consider the art-tech corsair as a definite must for a first low wing. Very docile and forgiving.
hudsonaj36  11 points - 11/11/2011

I put 10x5 APC nitro prop on the plane and it flies really nice. The electronics are stock. Will this over work the elctronics? Electronics dont seem to be getting hot.
 Bixler13 31 points
no it shouldnt. i use a gws 10X8 prop and have had no problems

Great thanks.
 modifiedmustang 524 points
I agree with bixler. There are many folks, including myself, who have updated to a 10X8 Parkzone Propeller (the one used on Super Cub). Gives it a tad more zip, but not hard on electronics. You just have to mod the spinner a bit.
 hudsonaj36 11 points
Yeah I have been flying it now with the 10x8 parkzone prop and the parkzone mustang green and yellow spinner. No modifications required, just screws on and performs much better than the original 4 blade.
 modifiedmustang 524 points
It works with the stock motor? I thought the parkzone motor used a larger diameter motor shaft than the stock art-tech motor.
 hudsonaj36 11 points
I used this one, it went right on for me. ParkZone Spinner PKZ1807 Price: *$5.49

Is the landing gear removable ?
 edco107 8 points
Yes the landing gear is easily removable, no tools are required and the gear has a metal loop that slips into the plastic receptacle mounted on the wing.
 moscow580 41 points
That is the beauty of this airplane. The landing gear are easily slipped out and in, also when they are in place it is a strong fitting. I like to fly without the landing gear. The wheels do not work well on grass, or matted down grass, better on concrete.

i just got mine and have no instructions with it. can anyone help me?
 r0beert0 70 points
I just uploaded the manual...click on the files tab next to videos. I recommend you check out "RC Groups" rcgroups(dot)com thread ID t=680471 or search for H0bby-L0bby Mustang (replace the zeros with o's) Lots' of good info on this bird as far as mods/power systems that are good for this air frame.
 moscow580 41 points
This is good stable flying airplane. I recommend it to the flyer who wishes to move off the trainer and into their first low wing airplane. It is also an easy build and you will have lots of fun with it. For the more experienced pilot if you wish to fly inverted feed more elevator down trim and then fly inverted the plane has a tendency to dive when flying inverted. All in all...I have crashed this plane 3 times and it still in structurally good shape and a great go to airplane.

what would be a good motor to upgrade to?
and would i need to upgrade the ESC aswell?
Thanks
 pasjoe 31 points
Check out the video at the bottom of the product's page. The addy for the vid is www.link describes a great upgrade. Please clock like if you find this answer helpful... HAPPY FLYIN' pasjoe
 r0beert0 70 points
with stock motor mount I recommend the TURNIGY Bell 2409 1600kv Outrunner with 7x5 apc prop and 35A ESC. I ended up going with a 35-30A 1700kv outrunner with 8x4 apc and 40A ESC though I had to mod the firewall mount to fit the X style motor mount.
Mathew  19 points - 3/13/2011

Is it EPO foam ?
 pasjoe 31 points
Yes .... HAPPY FLYIN' .. pasjoe
 r0beert0 70 points
Not quite...this plane is made out of EPS foam.
 moscow580 41 points
Not sure what type of foam, but very reparable if you have a mishap. Recently went cherry picking with my P-51D and banged up the nose a bit...screwed in new (extra) motor mount, ordered the new cowl form HK and good as new.
Chaos  6 points - 2/28/2011

will a turnigy 3S 2200 mah lipo fit in the battery compartment?
 r0beert0 70 points
no it will not...though you can modify the canopy to have it fit. check out RC Groups thread ID t=680471 or search for *********** Mustang. Lots' of good info on this bird.
 r0beert0 70 points
H0bby-L0bby Mustang. I guess HK filters out mentions of other hobby shops.
 pasjoe 31 points
No. The battery compartment/doos is very small. I had to modify mine to put the battery in the cockpit in order to obtain the correct CG..... HAPPY FLYIN' .... pasjoe
 moscow580 41 points
No. The only batter that will fit is the 1300 or lower. Even the 1500 is too long. I have tried, but the compartment is too small and you can not really extend it. The plane flies great on a 1300.
 polexpedit 41 points
use a 2200 long pack inthe slot under the wing. I run the wires to the battery door for charging, just enough wire to work and balances the plane perfect. over 20 min. full on aerobatics
 polexpedit 41 points
Use this batt with a 9x6 prop is an amazing setup. I have found it almost impossible to stall, super slow landings, flys like a glider with power ddown and some up elevator. can get a brief hover and tail spins great with lots of rudder.
 moscow580 41 points
Thanks for the tip. I have a 9x5 prop so that should tax the motor that much. Also I only have a 1800. At this point I need a spinner. Need to go to the LHS for a correct size spinner.
jestin  1 points - 2/24/2011

Dose anyone know if this plane flys good???
 Tom 1 points
I bought one and it was a pain. Non steerable tail wheel makes it virtually impossible to taxi, and the CG was off. I wouldnt recommend it
 r0beert0 70 points
jestin, this plane flies great! I fly mine at least 2-3 times a week that's how much I enjoy flying this plane...as far as the steerable tail wheel, a simple mod using a push rod connected from the rudder to the wheel will fix that problem. check out my second video from the video tab above.
 guitarPlaya 154 points
What are you talking about it does have steerable tail wheel its just that the linkage is inside the body, and it flys great like Roberto said Tom check yourself :)
 moscow580 41 points
For a plane that one wishes to break into after having stick time on a trainer this is a great park flyer. It is not very fast, nor is it a floater. It does very basic aerobatics, and flies very scale. I think you will enjoy it very much. I agree that it does not steer well, but if you take off the wheels and fly it that way it looks really cool in the air. Just one toss and it is flying (full throttle of course). Also the Turnigy 1300 mah batteries fit perfectly in the battery compartme
 Bixler13 31 points
My plane arrived with a steerable tail wheel as well.

Any Body put a faster motor &/or ESC yet?If so which one & how did it perform?
 wadecbr 10 points
I haven't done that yet but I did change the nosecone and put a 11x4.7 two blade prop on it and it made a pretty good difference for only a couple $'s
 r0beert0 70 points
I'm currently using this setup: Motor: TURNIGY Bell 2409 1600kv Outrunner Prop: APC style propeller 8x4-E Canopy mod to fit 2200 mAh pack Here is a video of it in action: www.link
 Prime 5 points
Hay thanks for the relies.Awesome Vid Roberto..The canopy/battery Mod is great. How did you replace the motor???? Did you removed the Red Nose cone & go in threw the front ???
 r0beert0 70 points
Thanks! yes, the nose is the only access point to remove the motor. You need to remove the spinner and carefully remove the red cowl...it's glued on, I used an x-acto knife to remove and then replaced it with some small self tapping screws. One very weak point on this plane is the motor mount, I made my own after that video you saw. I recommend going through this thread in RC Groups as it proved to be very handy for mods: www.link here you will see a member post with the canopy mod video: www.link
 r0beert0 70 points
that's www.link think you can figure it out, just replace "(dot)" with "." :)
 Prime 5 points
Awesome !!!!...Thanx again for the quick response.Checked out the the link...Also very cool. Going to be Hot Rodding this bad boy soon. If you shoot any more Vids, Let me know, As I not only enjoy Flying this Plane but enjoy Vidz of others flying or Modding this Plain :-)

Ordered last Saturday this plane - no status update even it shows 10 stock - got a tracking number, but USPS hasn't received the package yet - ordered the same time from HK via EMS - already arrived yesterday! What's going on? People report a 3 day turn-around-time, can not confirm that.
 flyandi 944 points
Retracting my statement - All blame on USPS! :-D Came in perfect condition last friday! Awesome quality! A

the battery compartment looks small, is there room to put in a larger pack say 11.1V 1800 mah?
 Hrubster 445 points
No but some guys are removing the cockpit and putting a bigger battery in there. Changes CoG but you can adjust.
 r0beert0 70 points
Thanks for getting back to me...I actually received this plane yesterday (10/30/2010)and I was actually able to fit a couple of my 1800 packs, I found that as long as your battery is no more than 100mm long by 22mm wide you are just able to fit it through and slide in to place in the groove where the original esc is placed I added a new 30A brushless esc and placed it on the wall of the plane right down where the hatch opens...CG is right on as long as the battery is slid all the way back. I'll be posting a video of my maiden soon.

1 thumbs up!
Awesome little mustang. This was actually one of the first planes I learned to fly on. Very forgiving, but still fun to fly. I got easy 10 minute flights on a charge. Cant beat the way a mustang looks flying through the air!

1 thumbs up!
Got mine last year and can't say enough good things about it. For what I paid for a Parkzone mustang, I could've bought 2 of these. These Mustangs fly as good as the PKZ one and have a rudder on them. My mustang is still flying. I might have to get another one because the paint is wearing off. Take my advice and get one. They're fantastic.

This is a nice little plane and it flies great, except it doesn't any steerable tail gear, so I have to modify it to be able to taxi on the runway. The other thing I don't like is the propeller, it is a little flimsy after a rough landing, the prop was chewed up in pieces. It came with two propellers, but I used it all up need to have a tougher two blade prop....

Received 5 days after order! Very good quality. NO glue needed - everything is hold in place with screws. It's a bit smaller than the PZ T-28 but what a beauty. For the price it's a real deal! A great plane for my collection. Can't wait to fly it, but it's raining in SoCal at the moment.

great plane , flys as good as parkzone p 51. just be careful about scale take offs and landings prop is easy to break as it is a little low to the ground. thinking about taking gear off and just flair in on grass. could use a little more power but not bad as is.flys easy like a trainer. steerable tail wheel would be nice. cant beat it for the price. good job HK on this one!!
