brilliant little number, have never flown 3d before only on simulator. Running a NTM 28-26a 1200kv/250w motor with a 8x3.8 prop, 20 amp esc and a 3s 1000mah 15c (soon to be 25 - 50c upgrade!) running CG 100-110mm from fuselage and seems to do well in my opinion, like i say i am no expert but this setup seems to work for me i can prop hang like a pro and she loves to harrier! hope this might be of some help to someone.
I haven't started building mine yet, there's one thing which worries me. The manual says the electronics go inside the fuselage and it also says glue the bottom and top of the fuselage closed. Where does the battery go? OK It's a dumb question but I'm sure it goes inside the fuselage but with it all glued shut how do you charge the battery and where does the ESC sit? I get no hints from the manual at all. At least I found out what a gemel was. Thanks
hi mate. i been flying this plane for awhile now it's great. i have glued the bottom of the fuselage and have left to top open. mine came with velcro on the top and that works fine to hold all the electronics in and battery.Tip i would uses better/bigger zip ties to hold the landing gear in i would even replace it with thicker wire.
EPP foam after a while will rip at the velcro. The tip I used was put packing tape along the edge where you put the velcro and stick the velco to the packing tape. This plane is the same in many ways to the Angel HK sells. I have owned 2 Angels and they are amazing to fly. I learned more 3D on the Angel since you don't care if it crashes. Quick fix is hotglue
I've actually started building mine and someone must be listening. The wire ties were plenty big enough, any bigger and the holes would need redrilling. They were extremely awkward to insert. I'm certain there was a void in that block of foam, the wire ties would go in and just keep going but never appear on the other side. Those hinges are horrible thing to use and changing to mini pin hinges on just about every surface was a cabon spars few mm from the hinged edge. I have it almost finished with motor and pushrods to fit. I can see why it's classed as unbreakable, that foam is the softest I've ever come across and will take a lot of pulling around without tearing. I think the only common breakage would be the prop. I used extreme tape on all edges after I noticed that all surfaces are two pieces of foam joined together. The tube of glue they supply with the plane remains tacky for over 12 hours and I'm not sure it was a good choice to use it. I'm really looking forward to flying it though.
I used the hinges that came with the Angel but put packing tape along the whole hinge surface and never lost one. As for wires I use a servis rod and put a small hook in the end to fish the wires through. Plus hold it up to the light and you can see where the wire is by the shaddow The glue is not good at all. I used hotglue and again it worked good.
Having you CG way off would certainly make it fly nose up if your CG was too far back. Play around with it to see if you can bring the battery forward to compensate. Maybe you could answer my question just above yours for me please.
I just got this plane and have stared building it. Everything looks great, nice plane for the price. Just wanted to ask the best way to install the little paper thin hinges. I am having trouble getting them to all line up and slid into the holes i cut into each controls surface.
hi,i have the same plane and found them hinges useless.find some clear hard plastic the type that toys come boxed in.cut some hinges out fold in the middle then use a hobby knife to make slots in wing and ailerons insert and glue.awsome little plane! J.P
You could CA some standard pinned hinges into the Ailerons, elevator and rudder. They are available from HK. Just a tip. With a cotton bud smear a tiny amount of Vaseline or grease (fine) along the pin area. This will stop the CA from wicking into the hinge and sealing them for good. I do the same with the round Pivoted type and never get a sticky hinge. I ran out of grease last week and my wife said "why not use dripping" I laughed but gave it a go and it worked great. Clever woman, my wife.
I've tried a few different down/right thrust angles on this plane, but it doesn't seem to be too sensitive to thrust angles .... much more sensitive to CG position. I ended up using 2 thin 3mm washers under motor base to set the thrust angles ... 1 at the top for down thrust, 1 on the left side for right thrust. Flies great!!!
the standard setup fro 3d is 2 to 1 power to weight ratio. so this plane will end up weighting 500 grams to you want 1000grams of thrust.
use motocalc to find out thrust output
Type AX-2210N and AX-2213N into the Quick Search box and it will spit out 2 motors that work great on this plane. 2210 is 45g and has enough power to hover at 2/3 throttle on 1300mah 3S battery w/10x6 prop. 2213 is 10g heavier with a bit more power. I have both motors, but have only used 2210. Cheers!
I wanted max flight time without compromising on weight so run 2S batteries on mine. 2S 1800mA zippy compacts give me 7 minute flights with plenty of hovering and verticals. No lack of power using a Turnigy L2210 motor and 10x4.7" prop. I use the A version which is 1650kv and brings on the speed flutters every time I bang on full throttle, so the C version with 1200kv would be a better match.
There wing has two slots for dual aileron servos - putting a HXT500 into each would be fine for most applications.

1 thumbs up!
Maidened this model this morning, first time I have ever flown such a plane - and it was magnificent!. Easy to hand launch and very docile to fly. Second battery and I was doing loops, rolls and inverted. Model went together very easily with no real hassles even for a beginner and the recommended motor/esc/prop combo works well. Really recommend this model especially for beginners as it will definately build your confidence - it has mine!

Plane went together fairly well but mine just bound in the stator motor rear bearing case causing the wires to get pulled through and nearly melted! Beware of loose grub screws in the motor also!
I replaced my profile Piaget with this and and I am very impressed. This product is the same price but the kit is heaps better. It comes with proper airfoil wings rather than just a slab of EPP and it has a real 3D fuselage to hide all you electrics inside. All of the moving surfaces also come with carbon spars inbuilt for stability. Very impressed!

Loved it, Bought this plane to use up some spare parts I had lying around for ages. Went together well and was easily modified to fit non spec parts (if in doubt more epoxy). This is my first 3d plane and i'm loving the extra wing area and throws, It did have bad aileron flutter at speed which I fixed with some hinge tape to both the top and bottom of the ailerons. It's already survived at least three surprise landings including a nose dive from 15m. Verry easy flier when the throws are decreased I can take off and land on my driveway

I can't fault this plane as an introduction to 3D flying. My first 3D plane was a depron 'flatty' and while it flew OK it was not very forgiving to a 3D beginner and nearly always needed repairs as the depron just cracks up on impact so I didn't get much practice. The Extra 300S is so forgiving and responsive that on my third flight I was so comfortable with it that I started hovering (something I couldn't do). After 2 months of flying with it and half a dozen hard hits (EPP is the only way to go) I recommend this to anyone wishing to have a go at 3D flying. The undercarriage is strong, linkages are steel not carbon fibre and the flight surfaces (ailerons, elevator & rudder) have carbon fibre embedded in them which means these surfaces do not deflect/warp during manouvers. My setup is a 2812 - 1200KV motor running a 9X4.7 prop with 1000mh 25C battery - ample power to hover and flies around straight & level on 1/3 throttle - Brent (Aus)
