An excellent parkflyer sized EDF foamie made from well moulded and crash resistant (EPO) foam. The MIG-15 EDF jet comes plug and fly ready right out of the box and will take you around 45 minutes to set up. Included is a 20A ESC and small yet powerful 50mm brushless ducted fan system, plus all servos are pre installed so all you only need to add is your own battery & receiver to complete this model.
Most HK kits/models are top quality - this is very very poor quality - I advise HK to remove from their range, it detracts from there otherwise excellant models which may be mis-judged on this one
Just measure the CG (43mm back from the leading edge wing to fuse joint. ) and keep on adding weight until you jet balances on 43mm from the wing. Simple fix, hope this helps!
Well, I have flown it in -15C and it went OK regarding motor/fan, but I did crash, this thing is very fast in my eyes (it's my first EDF)! During the repairing I destroyed the fan due to a loose aileron servo cable (yes, that was stupid :-). So I ordered two of this fan:OR003-00102-6B. NOTE: I only got the 6-blade fan itself and the housing where the motor is attached, no other parts whatsoever, so make sure to check with HK _before_ ordering if you really want the other parts that are supposed to come with that fan! The fan fits pretty well in the mini Mig-15. The flange on the housing is a little bit larger in diameter (55.3 mm instead of the originals 54.7 mm) and the housing outer diameter measured at the flange is 53.0 mm instead of the original 52.3 mm. This means it is a little bit tighter to get the motor cover in place, but it's not a real problem. The housing is a lot stiffer than the original (the original easily flexes so much that it touches the fan), so lot less risk of problems due to compressing the housing with this one. I had to cut 5 mm off the housing where the motor goes in to make the mini Mig-15 motor fit. I put the housing on a bolt, put the bolt into a drill then cut off the rotating housing with a hacksaw. The fan feels more brittle then the original but was nicely balanced and withstands full power with 3S and original mini Mig15 motor without problems. Would buy this again if needed. Now I'm off to try and fly it again, cheers!
Well that's that then, first start attempt (hand launch) with too little throttle, nose first into the snow no harm, second attempt full throttle but the elevator servo got jammed in full nose-up, so a nice loop and into the snow again, still no damage on the plane. The servos on the mini Mig-15 are really bad. Will put on HK15178 for ele now, they are dirt cheap but have worked very well for me. Next attempt then eyh!
Two successful flights behind me now! It doesn't like to be "pulled up" with elevator, stalls easily. Starting from an icy field, just full throttle and up she goes. It's really funny to fly it, especially low passes close up at full speed! Loud! I get a little over 4 minutes in the air from my 1300mAH Nano-techs. COG at 90 mm measured from wing root. This has turned into a blog, so I shall refrain from further writing now... Cheers!
Has anyone flown this with the stock fan in sub-zero temperatures? I'm a bit worried that the plastic fan will explode when it's freezing. It's -15C (5F) here right now...
Love this little plane, I've brought two. It flys nice and floats in for easy landings. Either upgrade the ESC or get some airflow over it becauses is a tight squeeze in the battery compartment.
The standard ecu is 20amps, i put in a 35amp (which might be alittle high) and a 3s 1000mah with 35c discharge rating and the battery just fits with no mods and it flys great with standard motor and fan. I also moved the elevator servo to the top of the fuselage for more direct control on the elevator, this also creates more space for the battery and reciever
Oh my bad, wrong mig. Thought this was the 35mm one. In the 50mm put in a 4S lipo and get a 6 blade fan (1.97in from HK) for more thrust. On 4S the motor is ok for it, but the stock fan will go soon.
It uses standard servo plugs (as seen in the photo) and the battery plug is a red JST connector. Best to switch out that JST to use your micro deans connectors.
Dallas, how do you make a thrust pipe (what material, how to attach it)? Would you have a picture to upload to the Files section perhaps, that would be really helpful! Thanks!
hi.i was planning to purchsed this mig15 PNF this coming march.i ask if what combinations of TX/RX,battery and charger, will be suitable for this jet because i read most of the reviews that the stock battery would not balance the jet properly..im from the phillipines i hope hobbyking will put a branch here someday..thank you.
I used a 2200 3s1p 20c battery and it balances perfect. I had to move the elevator servo back about an inch. I get about 15 min. flight times. 102mm long battery is about as big as you can go. The 1300mah it suggests is way too light. It's very tail heavy so it searched for the biggest battery that would fit with out cutting the foam too much. I also had to shave the canopy 1mm in the middle. A cheap charger and any 3-5 channel TX/RX is fine.
Owen, are you really talking about this MIG? I measured the maximum space for the battery (without foam cutting) to be 72 x 37 x 23 mm, but the 2200mAh is 105 x 33 x 24 mm, so how would that work?
The Spirit it is called a torque roll. All planes do it but EDF are a bit more prone. You need to allow for is on take off. I is worst on quick accelerate. So I hope this helps.
proublot Hobby King sell complete ducted fan assemblies and parts. Have a look. I hope this helps. Have a look under Hardware & accessories. > EDF System & Parts
hi i have the mig and f86, my friend has the t33. the mig is by far the fastest, prob. 25% faster. the mig and f86 are modified with the insides of the fuselages free from obstructions. anyone know why the mig is so much faster? the motors draw the same amps but sound different, the f86 and t33 sound smoother, the mig sounds rougher. the only difference i can find is that the migs motor feels much more coggy but as i understand it this makes no difference the motors and escs obviously come from different factories as they initialise with different sounds. anyone looked into this??
I have this mini mig too. Mine tendes to pitch up at full speed and then stall. It also pitchs down at low throttle. It's difficult to slow it down. When I try to land it, the Mig wants to nose dive into the ground. Does any one have suggestions to make it fly better?
It sounds as if it is tail light, the t-tail configuration means that airflow to the elevator/horizontal stabilzer is reduced when the model pitches up, stalls, then once the nose drops, if you have downtrim on the elevator, it will dive, move the Lipo forward.
from what you are syaing and I have also dis model.
you are fling it a little bit tail heavy try to put little weight in the nose.
its normal in slow speed that the mig-15 will nose down in landing you need to thrutel back give a little up elevator not to much or you will stol it
and the mig will glide to a slow landing
I've tried with mine, and it won't unfortunatly. It's easy enough to hand launch though, but you will probably need a few clicks of down trim. It is rather tail happy but great fun.
hi i bought this same model is a little tail heavy added 15g of weight in the front and add a little of up elevator very easy to hand lauch good throw straight forward do not hand lanch on an angle. not overly fast but a great model for the price alot of fun.
Something is terribly wrong if you can't get the COG close with a 1300mah. Double check the position of the COG! Remember the measurement is in millimetres from the start of the wing.
I achieved COG with a 1000mah battery and a tiny bit of extra nose weight.
Does your model have the drop tanks attached? Mine does and seems tail heavy with a 1000mah battery. It stalled on launch and my flying session ended embarrasingly early! lol. I'll try again soon with a little nose weight I guess...
Got it worked out perfectly. 95mm from the front of the wing is close enough to trim it up. I got rid of the drop tanks because they fall off anyway (even with epoxy). If you don't want to hand launch just give it full throttle and give it a push along the ground on grass, 20m and you will be flying.
mine flew best at about 80-85mm using a 1300 3s. I also removed the 10g weight that is hidden in the nose as standard. split the nose above the intake to find it. i would rather ballast with extra battery! my problem with the mig is servo failures
Hi Mark RC. I use standard 800 - 900 mAh 3s 20c battery and I am satisfied. Max consumtion is 15A and for normal flying is enough 5-6 Amps. Each my flight take cca 5-9 min. So, I recommend stay with good 3s battery with weight up to 90 grams.
Depending on the battery, a 1300mah may end up with a slightly nose heavy model. I found that a 1000mah was still a bit tail heavy and ended up using a tiny bit of nose weight (which I don't like doing).
It's small battery compartment - one of the smallest in the series so 1300mah is about the maximum for the Mig-15.
Hi James, landing is without any problem because the landing speed is very low (if you use battery no heavier as 80-90 grams). Plus tanks protect servos from direct contact with landing surface. Ofcourse, without tanks the max. speed is higher.
I just received this little Mig. The overall impression is good, this will be a very fast build . Nice foam, look solid. I will maybe modify the elevator linkage or try stock.
Beautifully made EPO foam model. Well packaged and fast delivery with just airmail. No need for EMS express. All components come in sealed plastic bags.

I build this Mig in less than one hour. I just change connector on the ESC for Dean.
I 'm using 3 cell 1300 mah lipo and the plane balance perfectly.
This morning, I when in my field @ home and try the Mig. Full throttle and up he goes .Balloon a bid , trim some down elevator and I enjoy the flying session a lot. Not ballistic but you can loop and roll without problem.
My friend @ the club own an Alpha Mig 15, is pane is cool but I prefer mine ....Thank Hobby King this is a winner

Received mine yesterday, the box looked really bad and I thaught I had a crushed model BUT when I opened it was well packaged and fine with no damage (lucky). I like the quality finnish. I had to remove the ESC to change the power connector and discovered the fan had been connected incorrectly. No problem as I removed the fan anyway to check it. Seems well balanced with no rubbing and about 0.5mm clearance between all blades and casing. Interestingly there are two stickers on my fan, one says 339g and other 16.9A? I must test it on my watt meter still but this may well be max power and amps tested but at factory level but can't confirm this. I also found the model tail heavy and the 3S 1300mah seemed to balance it better than the 3S 1000mah that I have in terms of the recommended CG in the manual. I can confirm mine weighs in at 351 grams all up with 3S 1000mah installed. I have yet fly it, waiting for a calm day. Will post how it flies with different packs that I have and so on.
