A couple notes from when I assembled this head:
Additional parts required are:
- feathering shaft (51mm x 4mm)
- dampers (4mm hole)
- the thick washers that fit next to dampers
- washers that go under the bolts at
the feathering shaft ends
- two small 0.12mm thick washers
Some of these parts are included with the 51mm feathering shaft sold by HobbyKing.
Assembly:
- Order and direction of parts in swash follower arms is critical to get the alignment right
- the four flanged bearings go in the tops of the swash follower arms. Two per arm, one bearing in each side of the hole.
- I found that a small 0.12mm washer was needed between the flanged bearings, otherwise they would bind when the 16mm screws were tightened.
- the link holes in the swash follower arms are a fraction too large (4.8mm rather than 4.75mm). Personally, I would rather that they were too small, because they can always be reamed out. As it is, the only thing you can do is find some bigger balls.
There are a couple nylon washers included with the kit. Does anyone know where they go? The only use I can see for them is as spacers in the blade grips, to adjust for rotor blades with thinner roots.

Will spindles be available for this? I ordered one of these, its fantastic, but I dumb-thumbed my heli in inverted, and bent the feathering shaft, and when I went to replace it, found it to be considerably longer than a standard v2 feathering shaft. Anyone know what shaft will fit? will it be available here, or is this a disposable flybarless head?

The 51mm 450Pro shaft works fine. Might as well get the HobbyKing one, because you will need the four washers that come with it for assembly.

You need the 51x4mm Feathering shaft. (I think the 450V2 has 41x4mm, right?) Some washers are missing, but you should have them from the original head, if it has thrust bearings and 4mm shaft, the washers will fit.

Do you mean the electronic gyro's. Yah i know they are all really expensive. It's weird having a $15 part to upgrade your heli FBL but then have to spend $120 for the electronics

I would recommend using the fbl controller. I have flown a flybarless heli without the electronics and they are incredibly difficult to fly. The electronic units emulate a flybar, and so they deal with things such as the ballooning effect that the flybar on standard heads would normally do. Otherwise you gotta do it all yourself, Ive done it before and didnt go beyond hovering.

Here comes a question for the more experienced guys: although I have been flying 450 class helis for a couple of years I never had a chance to try a flybarless one. Is there any significant improvement in handling or endurance? Why I would like to invest a big buck in a FBL system? Thanks in advance.

Pro:
1)Lower part count on head = less weight = longer flight time.
2)No paddle = lower drag = crisper response longer flight more power
3)3Gyros = more stability (depending on setup)
4)lower part count
5) Coolness factor
6)Good for scale optic
Con:
1)High initial cost
2)Your strip servo gears in crashes
3)High cost electronics can take a hit in bad crash.
