The M4 Sherman, formally Medium Tank, M4, was the primary tank used by the United States during World War II. It was also distributed to the Allies via lend-lease. Evolved from previous medium and light tanks, it was the first American medium tank with the main gun mounted on a fully traversing turret.

Production of the M4 medium tank exceeded 50,000 units and its chassis served as the basis for numerous other armored vehicles such as tank destroyers, tank retrievers, and self-propelled artillery.
In the United Kingdom the M4 was given the name Sherman after Union General William Tecumseh Sherman, following the British practice of naming their American-built tanks after famous American Civil War generals. Subsequently the British name found its way into common use in the U.S.

The tanks turret rotates 320 degrees, and the barrel can move 30 degrees. The tracks run on spring wheels just like the real tank to enable the US-M4A3 Sherman to clear obstacles and travel up steep inclines easily.

There are many sound and feature adjustments and the radio can control all functions without the need for multiple buttons. This helps the user to quickly control the tank in battle situations.

Included with the US-M4A3 Sherman is a 4.8v NiCd pack, charger, radio system and all accessories.

The Brits had no part in naming the M4 the "Sherman". Quit believing everything you see on Wikipedia. The British version of this tank was called the "Firefly" actually. The Brits recognized that the original gun on the M4 was ****... so they replaced it with a more powerful 17 pounder and the Firefly was their main tank from the Normandy invasion onward. And sadly, the Sherman's propensity to easily catch fire led to them being called "Tommy Cookers" in the field.

During WW2 The Sherman were in service in the UK prior to america joining in. Many regiments were equipt with the standard gun for use as infantry support Once it was discovered they were inadequet in combatting german newer tanks some were refitted with a longer 17 pounder barrel which had been used as artillery. They were issued to armour units one firefly per Troop or four or five to a Regiment. The firefly had more range and punch and was able to defeat the newer enemy tanks. All tanks burn when defeated.

1 thumbs up!
I bought 4 of these a year or so ago from another vendor but can't find them now. These little Shermans are a blast. They look great and run great. The bogeys are sprung and articulated and work almost in a scale fashion. The commanders hatch can be cut open with a jewelers or razor saw and a 1/35th or 1/32nd scale figure torso can be added. I have a comander and gunner mounted on mine. I hope that HK will carry spare tracks as they wear.
