I have opened the package and with the first view, i can see that the canopy is a garbage, is totally deformed because the shipping box was too small. I hope that when i mount this heli, not buying another chinesse ****, for saving any money.
   phil333 (8%)
Hi alsthom, although the canopy might look deformed, when you put it on the heli it straightens out quite well. Also, to be honest, for the price it's hard to complain!
   alsthom (67%)
Hi phil333. Thanks, i have not mounted the heli yet. When i do it, i hope the canopy get back the original form. Anyway i see the canopy made with a material very soft. For only $5 y will buy another made in glass fiber. Thanks again.
   phil333 (8%)
Not a problem alsthom, HobbyKing are really getting sloppy, i've just received an order from them and there's a servo missing. I have been waiting two weeks for the order!! lol

I ordered this 2 days ago when there was 5 left, now its saying my order is still processing.... Ugh, i hope they didnt count their stock wrong, the new live chat sucks! No one answers and it always goes to the "leave an email", then when you leave an email no one emails you back.
   phil333 (8%)
The real problem comes in the delivery, unless you pay the extra for EMS things from HK take forever. Really can't understand why everybody else selling stuff from China, the stuff comes in 8 days max!...anyway, good luck
   quadracer111 (23%)
Nice, its shipped. I did pay for EMS, it was only $2 more than the "cheap" shipping in this case :D

Has anybody else found their linkage rods on the head the wrong size? 4 of mine are!
   r_g_r (90%)
Please not that this is a kit! It's not RTF. Although the head comes pre-assembled, it's up to you to setup the heli up correctly.
This customer was awarded a credit for their answer.
   phil333 (8%)
rgr, I don't think you understand. the links just don't need adjusting, they are actually to small. You couldn't adjust them if you tried!
   r_g_r (90%)
Well I guess then you have to be a bit more specific *) Are your linkage rods that go down from the swash plate to the servos too short? In that case: What's their overall length? Mine came with a length of 30mm, 47mm and 40mm. And I only had to adjust them a few turns up or down. Or do you mean that you can't turn the ball links? Mine came very stiff and I had to use a pair of pliers to turn them and adjust their length. Or do you mean that the ball-links wont fit onto the balls for the servo arms? I used ball-link pliers and had no problems. But maybe you need to use a ball-link sizer on yours.
   phil333 (8%)
rgr, they were the wrong sizes. rod d which there are 2, which are supposed to be the same size(32mm) in length, 1 is 19mm and the other 12.5mm. all in all there was 4 that were the wrong size. now do you understand! I just bought a new set and now everything is fine.
   tommo85 (42%)
they always are slightly wrong out of the box, however, just check all of them. I have had some of the rods be the wrong length though, and this was a major pain. So I just raided my spares box, and got the correct length ones.
   philfine (50%)
phil333, I felt the same ... my linkage rods if set to the align manual sizes have simply too few turns making it very easily detachable making flying too dangerous. I will either make my own or also buy a set of original linkage rods. Cheers !
   tommo85 (42%)
You should always check rod lengths on any helicopter. I will guarantee you that every heli you purchase will have the wrong rod lengths. That is why Align give you the rods, linkages, and rotor head all separate, so that you can guarantee to yourself that it is right.

What is the best Motor, Servos,Gyro,Receiver,ESC & Battery to get for my HK-450 CCPM 3D Electric Helicopter Kit?

It says "V2" but to my eyes, the frame is still V1. In the real V2 you can mount the gyro under the boom block... On this model it seems there is still the curve that prevents you from doing it without putting something under the boom block for the gyro to clear the frame. Is this the case?
   r_g_r (90%)
What do you mean by "the real V2"? The T-Rex 450SE V2? In that case I have to disappoint you, there a more parts that are not exactly the same. Well I guess V2 just means it's the second version of the HK450 (more alloy and upgraded part as the previous HK450). But back to your question, I just received the kit and you're right. Mounting the gyro underneath the boom block is not possible due to the frame design.
This customer was awarded a credit for their answer.
   Fulg (80%)
Yes that's what I meant, sorry. I presume V2 here means that the feathering shaft is 4mm, like the T-Rex 450SE V2. The frame is unchanged from the previous HK version. (I have the original HK450 here)
   tommo85 (42%)
i know people say this, however I have a lot of align heli kits and parts, and trust me. Brand new align frame sets do not have the square edges, they are still rounded. It is a non issue though, as by the time you put on gyro tape it clears the radius anyway. What the v2 means here is that the rotor head uses the 4mm feathering shafts.
   Fulg (80%)
*tommo85: You must be thinking of the older 450SA, which has the rounded edge near the boom block. Current kits (such as the Align T-Rex 450SE V2) have the square edge. I know because I have one. There is not enough space with this frame to mount a GY401B under the boom block, you have to use some kind of padding (such as a plastic plate) in order to clear the frame. I had to do this on my HK450 V1, which has the same frame as this one. You may be thinking of smaller gyros like the Spartan Quark.

HXT900 x3
MKS ds470 tail rotor servo
Turnigy E500 6T 4000kv 200W heli motor

Hobby King 401B AVCS Digital Head gyro

That puts you right around $140 including the Heli. Check out the video page for the High G/Loop video of my friend with the same heli setup.

Finally got to build the HK450 v2 kit. I noticed that the flybar rod has threads on one end, but the other end is smooth and has a smaller diameter that can kind of fiction-fit into the paddle's hole.

If the flybar is supposed to be like that, how do I secure (glue?) the paddle to the smooth end?

If it is a factory defect, should I spend $6 to order and ship just the flybar and wait for another couple weeks!? Or do I better off pay more to buy another kit just for parts due to a factory defect and hope that it will not have the same or other defects!!
   tommo85 (42%)
that is definetly not right. it is meant to be threaded each end. either go to a LHS and purchase an align 450 flybar bag, which comes with two to get you out of trouble, or order more from HK. If you do order more though i would order some more spares for your first crash. Which, in all honesty will be soon. We all crash. I recommend main and feathering shafts, blades tail and main. tail spindle, servos, tail boom. And upgrade your plastic canopy to a fiberglass one. Or, just buy a new kit, so you have one of everything, and just order parts on your next crash. Order parts before you need them and keep them instock for when you do. Nothing more frustrating then having a nice new toy and not being able to use it.

reading all these comments, i assume that V1 is better, but anyone knows if they still stock spare parts for V1???
Maybe now they only stock for this newer version of v2???
   tommo85 (42%)
There is very little difference between a v1 and v2, and align v2 was really only in the SE. the only differences between an SE and S was fully aluminium parts, (which is what the SE is) and the SE v2 had a 4mm feathering shaft. yet the S v2 still only had a 3mm feathering shaft. This heli is not full alloy, however does have a 4mm shaft.

garytcl (23%)
I am not happy with this HK450 V2, I wonder why so many good comments. Of course the newly added metal parts & screws are wonderful, but it is totally unsafe to fly compared with the v1.

I tell you why.

1. plastic blade is the worst thing for this heli. Can't get the right tracking & twisted badly even at half throttle for hovering.

2. tail rotor plastic hub broken before flying.

3. Too much plays on the plastic blade grip.

V1 plastic parts are way better then the v2 grey plastic parts.
   speed freek (71%)
I will agree with you the v2 is **** v1 is mutch beter quality , but ad a litle more or dubble the cash and the 450GT is the way to go.
   Funprise (51%)
I totally agree!!! On the subsequent flights my tail case broke off luckly i was just hovering!! the tails started to drift like there was no center!! also the blade grips need to be shimmed!!
   tommo85 (42%)
People buy it for cheap base mechanics. Plastic blades are always ****. Even the align ones. I have not broken the grey tail rotor hub. I do not experience play on the blade grips, are you ball links screwed in tight?
   Reuben (67%)

Tail boom is missing a slot which stops the rotation of the tail rotor case. Also it makes the tail belt too short.

In order to fix it, you'll need to cut a 5mm * 1cm slot in the tail boom at the tail rotor end, which a groove within the tail boom case sits on.

Diego, that part is used during storage and transport of the heli to keep the blades together. Turn the rotor head so that the flybar&paddles are in line with the boom, fold back the blades, slide the foam block over the blades and clip to the tail boom. Hey Diego,
the attached picture shows how to use this

Bladeholder
   Diego Person (39%)
Thanks!!!, Diego Person
   Shannon (12%)
That is your blade holder. You use this when you're not flying the helicopter to keep stress off of the rotor head to prevent premature wear of the rotor head parts. To use it, fold the blades back to a point where the blade tips can touch, align them with the flybar, point one end of the flybar towards the nose of the helicopter, point the blades over the tail boom, slide the tips of the blades through the 2 slots, and put the "V" shaped end of it over the tail boom. I would say 99% of all RC helicopter pilots use one on every single rotor, collective pitch helicopter they own. Here's 2 of my helicopters with the blade holder in use on both. *******i371.photobucket****/al***s/oo160/mydartswinger/DSC_0003-2.jpg

Hi, I have few questions.
I like to buy a READY TO FLY. (with all aditional accessories to make it to fly)

1. How much the total items cost?
2. How much you charge to ship saudi arabia?
3. How long the flying time?
   vinay2070 (12%)
Dominic, there is a build thread in the community section. You can find many combination of spares there.

If your country is not listed in the Postage table(on the top of this site, then try calling them on the phone. The chat is not working.)

The flying time may vary between 7 to 9 minutes depending on the type of flying you do and the spares you choose, on a 2200 mah 3S battery.

Would Spektrum DSP60J servos (digital, 13oz torque, .09 speed) be a good match for this heli? Also, would Spektrum AR6300 reciever be OK for this heli? Thanks for the advice.
   Demon (82%)
I would be rather weary of installing Indoor / microlite electrics onto a 450 helicopter, Although you will probably get away with it, i wouldn't call it overly safe... Especially when it comes to 3D. A perfect servo for the Cyclic for this Heli is the MG14 servo's, Very accurate, good torque and good speed.

Good luck,
Demon
   C3D2 (34%)
Thanks Demon, any advice for a good gryo servo?
   deanc (42%)
try this

http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10113&Product_Name=Hobby_King_401B_AVCS_Digital_Head_Lock_Gyro_
   Shannon (12%)
The Spektrum DSP60J servos are designed for smaller CP helicopters, such as the e-Flite Blade CP series. I would use at least e-Flite DS75H (more torque) or the Hextronic HXT900 servos. The connectors on the AR6300 receiver (JST, more often used for LiPo battery charging) are the wrong connectors for the servos needed for the HK450 (standard JR, Hitec, or Futaba connectors). For the same price as an AR6300, look at the AR6110e or similar 6 channel receiver.

erythia (17%)
This tail is plastic, similar to the V1? Personally, I like the V1 plastic tail to the HK alloy version because the plastic tail has a round protrusion that locks the tail assembly in place unlike the allow tail which you really have to tighten so it doesn't slip around the tail boom.
1/28/2010
Keith (53%)
can you get the shipping weight down to the v1 weight?
the extra weight adds $5.00 to shipping to where I am in U.S.
   erythia (17%)
I agree. I could add some servos and gyro to go with this order if the weight was similar to that of V1.
   vinay2070 (12%)
Agreed, the extra shipping cost of 5 USD makes the heli cost 33 $ and not 28 $. Infact, the HK450MT pack itself weighed around 650 grams, this should be further lighter and should surely fit in a 750Gram volume/weight ratio package, and make it more attractive!

Jason, With almost 900+ units sold, I think its time to add spares to the site, at least the V2 dedicated parts like feathering shafts etc. No meaning in waiting more. I am waiting for the spares before I place the next order with HC.

sailor (49%)
Looks nice, but where is the CF frame? And you still have to upgrade rotorheads to alloy?
   wsc_717131 (34%)
Sailor, Are you seriously complaining about the lack of CF Frame and alloy rotor head? Do you really expect to get that for $27.99? There's the 450MT with alloy for $46.79 but you'd probably find that price outrageous. It's never going to get any cheaper to fly a heli than it is here. You should check the price of a name brand 450 sized heli if you think this entry level affordable heli is overpriced!
   sailor (49%)
Hey funny wsc-guy! Yes, I'm "serious", and I "really expect"! Take a look at the announced helicopters for "mid January", then you don't have to ask so many questions! LOL
   xero67156 (59%)
The announcement said to expect an alloy/cf HK-600GT. It didn't say anything about an alloy/cf 450, just a 450pro based on the Align 450 pro. I was surprised to see as much alloy as I did for only $28.
   sailor (49%)
"...a 450pro based on the Align 450 pro". Exactly, that is exactly the sentence I was refering to! If you now add the fact that Align 450 Pro is full alloy, has a CF frame and has a torque tube, then we are two people who wonder where these features are!

Note I've never said that it's a bad helicopter for the price, it's probably excellent. So without knowing the price in advance, with the success of HK250GT and 500GT in mind, and with the information that it should be a clone of a premium helicopter, I'm a little bit dissapointed. I'm very happy with the stuff that I bought from HK, but in this case it seems like the "clone" is not much of a clone. It's like saying that a Fiat is a Ferrari clone. A typical property of a clone is that it's very similar to, or at least have the main features of, the original, right!
   wsc_717131 (34%)
Sorry to wind you up Sailor. You were hoping for something better than the product being offered. You in fact did not complain about price. I now understand your point. Your original comment without reference to the 450 Pro announcement for helicopter due for mid January release however, made you sound like a complaining nut job.... which you are not... so again I offer an apology. My bad. Excellent job of defending your position, You da man!

   Quix-fz (58%)
this is NOT the previously announced 450pro clone! i guess it'll take them a few more weeks. in the meantime they probably found another supplier of the old version 450 with interesting features (v2 parts, more aluminium for same price) and added it.

As Jason said - This is neither the HK450 GT, HK450 Pro or even the HK450 -it is the (un announced) HK450 V2, as the description says, it is purely an upgrade version of the Original. I have been flying this (under the name of Dragonsky 450) for about 6 months now and it is THE BEST value helicopter money can buy.

HK has the pinions available to order - an 11 and 13 tooth packaged together as one item. Check out parts. The plastic V1 HK450 included the ball links and the hex head screws were of good quality. I'm sure this 'copter includes them too. I've ordered two V2's. HK has done a great job to enable us beginner heli pilots!
   Wireman (61%)
SORT(-2), if you order two packs of the Part # F038 you will get the ball links needed for the heli.

And Jason, are the ball links included in the kit or not? If not, I think you should include them. For just a few cents more and a couple of grams extra. Just my 2 cents.

Good, it includes the ball links. Makes sence if they bother to include zip ties in it. I am looking forward to the build and hope I picked ok parts. I am nervous about the ESC I picked, but the motor says 20A+ on it, so a 25/30 should work. It is listed under the kit as a 'related item' anyway. It is the Turnigy E500 6T 4000Kv 200W Heli Motor and the Hobbyking SS Series 25-30A ESC. Has anyone used them?

hisqrt, with that motor you need atleast a 40 amp seed controller on rcgroups people have fried speed controllers under 40amp with tha motor

Thanks for the warning. Considering it is my first build it that is my worst mistake and we caught it I'll be happy. I guess I can see if some one needs the 25 amp for their plane or something. I wish they would suggest the 40 amp ESC under the kit instead of the 25. I should send an email or something.
