Anybody know what the diameter of the axel hole is (mm)?

Quite small and usually uneven on the edges. Expect to need to use a drill bit to tidy it up. I tend to drill mine out a little more to suit my wire axle size. Sorry, cannot give you a definitive internal diameter. I think 0.047 inch wire would slide through unimpeded.
