Hobby King Pitts Special Plug-n-Fly (4 Aileron version)
The HobbyKing Brushless Pitts Special is as exciting to look at as it is to fly! Its scale details complete with wheel pants and Pitts livery make it a very attractive plane, however the excitement doesnt stop there! This little foamie is equipped with 4 ailerons to give spirited aerobatic performance and the included oversize outrunner and 10x4.7 prop gives more than enough power for all aerobatic flight, and when you feel the need to turn it up a notch just switch the 10x4.7 for a 11x4.7 propeller for hovering capability! All this and still this little foamie is very controllable at slow speeds. This plane loves a walking speed fly-by. A combination of scale looks, excellent flight characteristics and great power plant make this fomie a real winner. The Pitts comes 97% pre-built and will take you around 10 minutes to attach the main wing and include your own receiver.
Required. Your TX & RX 11.1V 3S 1300mah lipo battery
Update* Please do not confuse this plane with the lesser quality SKY-Cessna. The HK-Pitts is a far superior model with better flying characteristics and power/weight ratio.
Iam going to buy a pitts.
Some people say they fly with 2200 packs, i have some of these laying around.
What is the preferred battery a 2200 or smaller?
And is the esc programmable or should i get another?
Probably a bit more aerobatic with a lighter pack but flies just fine with 2200 and balances well too. Make sure you get 1147 prop. ESC works just fine as is and doesn't require programming.
Not sure abt low voltage cutoff, I usually fly for 10 mins or so and she comes down with around 3.8V per cell... Cant see your link so not sure what it is your asking about being good...
Look like they should bejust fine, few reviews about bad balance but you find that with pretty much any prop on this site, I am sure they are fine, and they come with the little adapter rings too which is always nice.
i used the l3010c it fit right in. fits the mount that's there it will be a lil'monster after that lol! oh used a 11.4.7 prop and a 2200 30c battery 3cell.fly's great.
Hi this is nice plane to fly, details on the plane are very good it's not for beginner but if you got skill to fly rc plane you can fly it with no problem. Does not need much space to take of or to land. Please tums up if I helped!
HI to all. Does anyone know if HK carries the replacement motor for this plane. In the specs it states 700kv, on the motor it has DAT and no kv rating , but there is no DAT700kv motor on this site???
stich58, good point. But you forgot to mention you would also need to change the ESC to 50-60A to run the L3010c motor because it would destroy the little 20A that comes with this plane.
ya i forgot that thought bout it was going to add but got side tracked. just got back flying yak55 with same motor on it fly's great.ya that 20 would last bout 2 sec lol! it sure make's a difference in this plane.
Pitts - final configuration?: Installed the Turnigy L3010C-1300kv (420w). Installed HK 50 amp fixed wing ESC. Power from NanoTech 1300 mAh 3s 45/90C battery in front compartment. The Turnigy L3010C is almost a direct replacement for the original DAT 700kv but you do have to swap the mount as the L3010C won't plug in to the original DAT mount. Claimed thrust is 1650gm and spinning an 11x4.7 prop the take off is instant and it climbs straight up until out of sight. After 5 minutes of spirited flying everything comes down reasonably cool to just warm. Amazing flight envelope...you can fly it like a madman or putter along at a walking pace. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
hi guys. i am new bee for rc airplane and i wanna buy this plane with turnigy 9xr. this plane is good choice for beginners ? anyone can tell me. thxx :)
Hi, I would not recommend this to beginners as it's an Aerobatic (Stunt) plane. I think you might have better luck with something like this: PRODUCT ID: MICROJ3-RTF
If you want something bigger just try looking for any high-wing 3ch. airplane. 3ch. is much easier to learn on than 4ch. Hope this cleared things up!
I was a beginner, started with this plane. While it is very acrobatic, it is also extremely stable! Have I crashed? yes. However, I still have at least 80% success rate. pretty much the same as a high wing trainer, with no ailerons, that I also now have! I would recommend this plane highly for beginner on up. It is more stable than the trainer. I would also recommend a good simulator, before flying any plane.
got mine yasterday looks great no damage. decals very weak but bit of glue no worries. have fitted 2200 25c nano's tight but fits great with alittle foam out of the top of fuse and small hole running through to aft bat box for wires. fitted reciever in aft box heat shrunk it then velcro in, easy to change battery like this. put connections to reciever out aft hole of aft box to attatch servo's works well. yet to fit wing properly but have powered it up and it really wants to go somewhere in a hurry. have 11*4.7 to fit yet. unfortunately i am going away for a week and am not sure if i will get to fly it before i leave will post once i do. first foamie first electric looking forward to flying her.
Is it only mine, or are all these pitts very slow? Had mine flying a few times now and it feels super slow. No vertical climb, "walking speed" horisontal and so on. What motor would you replace the original with for some more speed and 3D ?
Mine does pretty well all stock, I run a 40C 2200mah 3s in it tho. It will do vertical right out of my hand, but not quite hoverable. It does fly very slow tho... Oh I do have the 1147 prop on mine rather than the 10 it comes with, that gives it a bit more punch...
I fly stock with a 11x4.7 slow fly and can prop hang. To fly faster I put on a 10x7 APC but I loose the thrust needed to prop hang. I use a 25-50c 1500 3s nanotech and get pretty close to 10 minits a flight. Its the prop and the battery discharge rate that determines what kind of performance you'll get from the stock set up.
Can someone recommend the best batteries and props (with links please) available from HK for this plane? I want it to have the best performance and flight time possible. Thanks.
Get a 3S 2200mah zippy or turnigy pack. I use 40c but probably overkill. Get the GWS style 11x4.7 Slow Fly (SF) prop. Id post links but I dont know the trick to make them actually show up.
Can someone give me directions for the "Files Tab" please...
I have one of these Pitts, and love it! I need to get the CoG correct by moving my Batt (have lead weight on the nose at moment) but its a cool plane...Going to use it at Indoor even in a few weeks, but i currently fly it from home, i have no field here, no where to land but just enough of a gap in the trees to bring it down from great height and flare(read: stall) it on the driveway, sometimes it rolls to a stop against the shed door! needs stronger undercarriage for this "maneuvre"!
I am unable to fit the 1300 mAh battery recommended for this plane in the aft Battery Compartment.
Are people using the forward compartment? And if you do doesn't this place the CoG too far forward?
What's the best way to enlarge the battery compartment? No manual in the box and the "file" manual makes no mention of battery placement. Help on this would be appreciated.
Hi, I fitted my 1300 in the front compartment, and im using a turnigy 9X RX in the aft compartment. C.G. came in dead on with this configuration. hope this helps!
my pitts already arrive at malaysia direct to my home......... wawawawawa yes tanks hobbyking its take only 1 week to arrive at sabah malaysia ...............
This plane is on of my favorits. Out of the box, to assembly and control surface adj's, and into the air. Flies great! I would not recomend for first timers. Also make sure the angle of the top wing is the same as the bottom. Mine was a little out causing the plane to climb with the elevader zero'd. I placed a little piece of double sided sticky tape to the top mount, leaving the film on one side so it wouldn't stick to the wing. Wonderful plane! Thanks HK!
does anybody know where i can get some of those aileron control horns at they split go over the wing mine broke trying to put rod threw it very weak.thanks or know a fix?
RVaitor: Thanks for your response! The link you posted is removed. I assume I could just use typical hinges used in larger balsa type airplanes? Also, epoxy won't hurt the foam? I have experience with balsa planes but not foamies, hence the questions lol. What concerns me most is the amount of resistance coupled with these tiny servos. Mine will not deflect upward at all. Thanks again!
Norbit: No problem. The hinges are in this site* just search them. I would use epoxy but Foam CA should work too. Make sure you test the CA somewhere on the model to make sure it doesn't eat at it:) You may want to look into some different servo's if you are having that big of an issue. I noticed that they were binding up where they exit the fuse. I adjusted mine to the FULL throw holes on the servo horns. I'm also using a Rhino (I know, Rhino :( ) 1350mAh 3s batt. I'm getting flight times in access of 10 mins and it has NO problem going vertical! I also used a soldering iron to "burn" a groove in the top wing to epoxy a reinforcing dowel in it. I don't think I could fold the wings if my life depended on it*) Hope everything helps! Happy Flying :D
I am planning on purchasing the Hobbyking Pitts along with the OrangeRX R610 Receiver and the OrangeRX RX3S V2 Flight Stabilizer. What additional wiring will I need to buy to make all the connections?
NONE. This thing flies well. I had to add about an oz. to the nose for the CG to be where it should be. I also use a 8X6 prop and it flies FAST. You will need to reinforce the gear though...
I have upgraded to Turnigy Park 480 motor and 2200 lipo - 30A esc. Stock felt underpowered on 1500s with standard motor. Now plenty of power with 11x7 prop! Had a few "moments" but it just glues back together! Agree landing gear is poor however..
XT60, and why would you order more batteries? Plugs can be changed if you can solder, and its worth learning if you just buy more batteries every time a plug is different....
Good point, I can solder (part of my job), I just didn't think of that. I use an adapter at the moment with my glider XT60 to T connector. Thanks for your replies.
beautiful plane to fly especially for this incredible price.
add your own receiver and a 3s 1500 20c turnigy or zippy pack for good performance from the stock brushless motor. - some readings for ya'll with the stock motor plus esc, and a 1500 3s 20c turnigy pack. (i run this pack but i fitted deans www.link 10 x 4.7 SF prop
Awsome plane i love it easy to fly lands slow looks great and even can do some very mild 3d and for the price why not?? Great work HK

8 thumbs up!
I have been flying this plane for about two months now. It has turned into my favorite plane to put into the air. Once I adjust the control rod and clevis connections I can litteraly throw this thing all over the field. Added the reccomended11x 4.7 prop. This makes a big difference. It leaps into the air. Whether going vertical or very, and I meen very slow fly-bys this plane is just a pleasure to fly. How much more bang can you get for the bucks
I received this plane a couple of days and i have to say that its a very good one!!. It flies well and can fly slow enough for good landings.. Only problem is the weak wheel system that needs clear surface (not grass!). Also it would be good to mention the battery box size because my battery didn't fit (rhino 1350 3s1p) and i cut some insulators(!)... I give 4 stars only for the reason that the undercarriage should be more strong... This plane is good!!
