Flymentor 3D is a stabilization unit that helps the helicopter to self-stabilize in hover and also self recovery during 3D manuever. This unit comes with 5 items; the main unit, gyro, CCD sensor, CD software and usb data cable (manual is in PDF format in the CD).
Features: Control all movement, including attitude stabilization, speed control, position locking. CCO sensor to capture picture of ground, comparing pictures to avoid drifting. Switch working mode (horizontal mode and position mode) through AUX channel. Integrating head locking gyro and swash plate mixer. Control sensitivity and mode of internal gyro through GEAR channel. Support swash plate 3S 120°, 3S 140°, 4S 90°, 4S 90°+45° Keep balance in inverted flight. Configured by computer through USB. If you are using FM/PPM remote control device, when helicopter is out of control, the Flymentor 30 will set aileron, elevator, rudder to neutral, and keep pitch in the final signal position, and switch to positioning mode automatically, the sensitivity is 70%.
Specification: Voltage: 4.8-6.0V Current: 55mA (under 5V) Weight:37G Temperature: OC~ +40C Under the stabilisation mode and positioning mode, maximum rotate speed allowed: J Aileron and Elevator: ,;2000 / s J Tail turning (if using external gyro): ,;3600 / s
I used 3m dual sided adhesive foam tape. 1/20" thick for hanging below the tail gyro. I separated the tail for easier set-up and less electrical tolerance to the fm.
Just choose among 2 controls of 4 setting. (Manual mode/Balance mode), (Manual mode/Position mode).(Balance mode/Position mode). But much better if manual mode is selectable. Hope this helps.
Leave the fm setup as it is default. Use your gear chan and aux chan to mix modes on your tx.
You might be able to use position and balance only.
It's a good thing. Balance then flick to position when trouble occurs.
I have a 6 channel recever (graubner hott12)
How can i activate the three working flightmodes ? off-position mode and balancing mode.
The manual is talking about aux chanel. Do i have them?
Flymentor tail spinning.
Flymentor is setup correctly. ..swash plate levelled...flymentor working counter acting what ever direction I lean the heli In etc.
F o r the life of me. Tried mucking around with -100 normal mode all the way up to 100 hh mode.
My tail will not stop spinning in a frenzy at half throttle.
Im using the fm gyro. Tried connecting blue wire green wire for manual tx over ride.
Disabled flymento for full manual control. Heli still spins in a frenzy.
I got a feeling its something to do with the gyro setup but not sure exactly where to look. This fm has taking me 4 days to setup. After problem after problem. Finally just the tail spinning off its head.
Anyone know what the matter is?
Thanks
I have the FM installed on an EXI 450 and can nearly go take a leak while it's hovering :211:
Just set the servos in helibal to do what they are supposed to do......you may end up reversing a servo in the TX as well, but after that is done, use subtrim to level it all out and go fly! By the way, the green and blue wires are WRONG in the manual.........reverse them!!!!!!!!!!
Mess with the gain a bit to keep it from dancing too much.
I've put a few short test flights on the HK500 just to make final adjustments, and will be putting a FM on it too. Friends call the use of a Flymentor "cheating", but I don't spend near what they do on broken parts :224:
I haven't used flymentor , but I was having the same problem with my hk401b gyro, that when I apply throttle the tail starts spinning fast, then I reversed the rudder control on the GYRO, not the servo, so I think if there is an option in the flymentor menu to reverse the rudder , Then reverse it and see if the problem is solved.
Unfortunately guys. I tried everything I possibly could...after having several people who have years of heli experience and gyro kn o wledge and setup look at the heli and go through the manual and look on u tube for troubleshooting and setup. I got pissed off after spending more than 50 hrs of my time where I could be flying finally took the fm off and maidened my heli. To hell with the fm. Im putting it up for sale In the forums.
Just like everything with copters. Perfection is the answer. I've been setting up mine for weeks, but it payed off. Very stable, what vibration dampening you use?
Try using your own gyro, leave the fm main gyro where it is and left plugged into the box. Unplug the two wires to the rx. Plug in original gyro in as per norm . Leave all default gyro settings in fm . I used my futaba gyro as I preferred it to the fm one . Just taped it on top of the fm one. Works reflect. If it fixes your spin then poss the gyro is faulty . Worth a try
hi everyone i just got my flymentor installed (received it a few days ago) everything's installed correctly the servos move as they should when you tilt the heli and the light flashes green because there's not enough contrast to the ground
however the flymentor box can get REALLY hot!! it's okay for the first minute or so but after that it just gets really hot, almost too hot to touch
is this normal or is my unit faulty? should i bring it out for a test flight? thanks!
Type : flymentor complete setup video : into google and watch the tubule video.
That's how I fitted mine but I used my own gyro. (Still plug in the fm gyro )
Works great.
Look hard on the setup and install of each servo lead.
Hope you come to a good end. My 10 year old is learning to fly 600 with this and it is excellent.
Hi all,
I don't know what is the issue but I need some help with this thing. When the FM is connected to my computer and I set up everything I save all the settings to the FM. Then, when I connect the FM again and I load the settings from it, everything is different. But I mean really everything! From blades rotation to all the servo settings and gain. And if I click "load" again, I get new set of crazy settings, and so on and so on.
It's like I didn't save anything and it's like settings change by them self from one load to another.
I did try just to click save and disconnect FM but when I spin up heli and try to lift off, it tilts to the right so much that full left aileron on the radio doesn't hold it strait. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Best regards!
are you saving every time you adjust 1 trim?.
i had the same problem and adjusted 1 tab of settings then went to the next tab and saved but it only saved the tab i was on.
adjust first tab then save evrytime
I save on each and every tab, after modifying every setting.
Checked, even I don't see how would swash menu affect how HeliBal gets different settings from FM each time I try to load settings from it?
It happened to me once, when I connected it to a windows 7 laptop. Took it back to my XP laptop, setting where all wrong. I used XP ever since to change FM settings. I guess it's the driver soft.
I did think of that so I managed to find an old XP laptop but I didn't find time to check it out in a past two days.
Will try it this weekend and get back with results.

With the first time. It is defective.
One. The order.
It is a great shame. Digital Servo it is an error.
To work on its own.
El Ron.
Works fine. Best thing is there's more space to fit the camera and main unit. Easy to install just make sure all iof the heli is mechanically setup perfect before you programme the unit.
Cheers
Can anyone help set up fly mentor all good servos working correctly etc but swash works wrong way when tilting helicopter this is when positioning system is on if I change direction of servos to get that working correct way the swash travels down instead of up when throttling on?any ideas on what the prob is!
Is your swash function in the normal or 90 degree mode?
Can not have in 120 at all.
Check the tx and change. Then start the programming from the start.
Cheers
purchase two units. There is no replacements as its a throw away item if compromised. They are cheap enough to maintain spares from multiple purchases.
Heli and alien command are the best if you're looking for stabilisation but the price will freak you out.
in a crash today, my Flymentor camers cracked across the clear plstice directly ovr the lens.
Where can I get a replacement camera? I went to KDS' website, and they don't even advertise Flymentor there!
HELP HOBBY KING MINIONS!!
If its the camera lense then you will have to purchase a new system. Keep other parts for spares.
You can't replace the plastic case as it is a certain thickness for focus.
Sorry for the loss
which esc? Sounds like it could be the sbec portion of the esc may have to low of supply amp rating(this is seperate from the motor load rating of the esc)for running all your servos, RX and the flymentor... or maybe just a bad esc. you can test how many amps the sbec is putting out while the heli is opperating by puting a multi meter that can measure amps in series of the red wire of the bec servo style wire that goes to the RX(just makes sure the meter is rated to handle the amps). if your setup is drawing less amps then the esc sbec is rated for the the esc is probably bad. you may want an extra set of hands to help load the servos a little and rock the heli a little to keep the flymentor active. If your drawing more the the sbec is rated for then just get a seperate Bec that can handle the amps needed (this is a better setup anyway)
can a external gyro plug into the flymentor? And what dose the flymentor actuly do? should an external gyro have to be pluged into the kit to use higher blade speed. what is wrong with the gyro that is in the kit, can it not do the same thing?
yes. the external one. because if i use between rx and servos its easy, rx power it on. but without rx I have no idea how to turn the unit on. thank you for your help.
It doesn't have an internal regulator* it uses the power supply that comes from the Rx, like servo do. You can also feed it with it's own power supply, if needed, just have to take out the power feed line from the 3 cable connector, the one that goes to aileron.
This is designed to control flybared helis, you dont't have 4 controls for a quad. You may try to use a 120 deg swash heli setup to control 3 motor, as a tricopter, but is not the design idea, I don't think it will work ok.
I guess its just my luck then. Ive made 16 orders from HK China in the past year, every single one of them took at least 3 weeks to arrive. So yes, I still beleive 7 to 9 days my ASS!!!
I live in Northern Illinois and have made over a hundred orders. It takes 10-15 working days. So, 2 to 3 weeks. Almost always 2 weeks exactly or 12 working days including Saturday. If I order from the US warehouse it still takes a week because they are slow to ship compared to 99% of the other businesses in the US.
Received this last week, I had trouble (like alot of other people) getting it to connect to the pc but after several hours of stress I realised that I had the Gyro and Sensor plugs in upside down. It works just as it says. The stabilization is fantastic and I was struggling to get my HK500GT to fly, but after installing this it flys brilliantly. Good work Hobby King another fantastic product at a fantastic price. If you are a newbie buy this!!!!!
Excellent, work as described. needs some messing aroud to get it work right, and the manual is poorly written or plain wrong.
The unit have a known problem with spectrum recievers with not powering on corretly every now and then, i have the problem to but only 1 out of 8 - 10 times. I think KDS is aware of the issues and im hoping there will be a fix to it later on.
I cannot complain and give it anything but 5 stars for this price.! Excellent!
I have this on a HK450 and it will sure help me to learn flying. I have Vista on my computer and was not able to get software to work, but when I installed on a computer running XP there wasn't any problem. To get a good result you need to take great care of the basic setup on your helikopter.
