This ESC is also sold as: HobbyKing BlueSeries. Search for BlueSeries in our search field on the left for the same product.
What are the technical differences between Mystery 30A and Blueseries 30A? Is it only the BEC? Are they (beside the BEC) 100% technically identical in PCB layout and components?
Hi all,
I at first wanted to buy the HobbyKing blue series ESCs, but they were not in stock. So I ordered those, as they seem to be the same products.
Now I noticed that the Mystery ESCs are capable for 2-3s, while the HobbyKing blue series has 2-4s printed on them. I plan to fly my quad with a 4s lipo. Will I burn the Mystery ESCs and should I order the blue series or will it just work?
Thanks
Take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Saj_0H6XkFs , this motor can produces up to 1.2 kg of thrust with 7x3 propeller and the guy on the video claims that it draws 32A on max rpm.For its price ,worths every penny :)
I just got mine - The manual says BEC output 2A, yet Hobbyking says it's 3A????? I want 3A, do I use this one in my Floater-Jet, or should I buy a different ESC?
This temperature protection (reduce power when temperature reaches 120C), is it automatic? Could you suggest me a bettter ESC, I'm an amateur flyer who flies at full throttle.
If you fly at full throttle, the ESC will heat up LESS. It is only when you fly at partial throttle, the ESC has to do more switching work and will heat up more.
You must also consider how many amps your motor will be using. If you are not pulling more than 20-25 amps, you should be ok.
Hi
The motor control is OK, but the BEC does not run weel :
The 5V output drops as two servos are connected.
I tested the output voltage with two loads :
- with a 5 Ohms resistor (expected 1Amp), the voltage dropped to 3.6 V !
- with A 2.5 Ohms (expected 2 Amps), the voltage dropped to 1.7 Volts
Do you have such issue ? It seems I have got a bad one !
Claude
Stop responding after few flights. Is there any way to check it's already dead or not? No response neither with "D2826-6 2200kv Outrunner Motor" nor "Floater-Jet Replacement Motor (AXN-2208-2150)". Motors reacts when connect with battery, but not when through this ESC.
OK, I got some progress. It looks like was an issue with the lipo 3s battery (1 of the cells was dead). Ordered new battery and now engine is twitching when throttle at the lowest level. as soon as it warmed up engine reacts properly. checked soldering - looks good, calibrated esc but still don't know what might be an issue. broken esc? I uploaded the video (3d video in the "videos" tab) to show hot motor is twitching on idle.
it is possible to program this esc's settings like lvc and brake on/off ect but i beleive it is only suited for fixed wing aircraft i beleive it is kept cool by air flowing through the aircraft
I do not understand how to calibrate the throttle on this ESC. When I set throttle to max on the radio and the power up the esc (in program mode), waiting for the first set of beeps, and then throttling down to set it, it is immediately affecting the brake setting. Help please, thanks.
Turn everything off, reverse the throttle channel on the radio, connect the battery and test. There is a programming card for this BEC, you set various things, see this www.link
Assuming you have the stock motor with a peak 20A draw then yes this will be be fine. ESC's have no minimum Amperage only minimum voltage. Having a 10A buffer will not be a problem. You only run into a problem when the motor tries to draw more Amps than the ESC can provide. If this happens you will burn out your ESC. Hope this helps
when i move my aileron stick, my motor will rotate by itself. im using a y-lead to my aileron. when i use other esc, no problem at all. can anyone help me pls?
This does not need ESC programming card, but you must program your radio whenever you change any ESC, you can do this: 1 - ESC already connected to the engine with the battery disconnected, 2 - Turn off the radio and put the throttle up , 3 - Turn on the radio (remember that the accelerator is expected to top), 4 - Connect the battery and hear the beeps (beep until the third) and get off the throttle completely radio, 5 - After three beeps, carefully lift the throttle and you will see that the e
Yes, you can set the helicopter on soft, for example, is programmed from the transmitter, through sound, it's easy, first turn on the transmitter, the throttle stick up to the maximum and then turn the receiver with the connected and start bec to sound and programming sequences, it is very easy, for any questions contact me at: modelismo-rc*hotmail****
Hi, using this esc , D2830-11 1000kv Brushless Motor and a orange spektum R610 rx. As soon as i connect 4 hxt900 servo's everything starts to jitter, when I only use 3 servo's no prob.
Hi, HXT900 servos have a rep for very high current draw, but that shouldn't be a problem with the servos not under load. The BEC is 3A, so it should be adequate. I bought one of these ESCs and had immediate problems with the BEC circuit. Servos were jumping around like crazy. Volt meter showed output to the Rx was not stable and the whole BEC circuit quit after about 10 minutes. I think HK just got a bad batch. I switched to Plush 30A and have been very happy. Cheers!
Hxt900 SERVOS!? I use 2 hxt900 and another 2 digital servos powered by this BEC and no problem. Try use another form of Rx power and/or send your ESC back to HK
Angelr3566, All these problems people have had seem to point to a bad BEC circuit design in this ESC. Using a separate Rx battery would add lots of weight to your plane for no reason. If you buy a different ESC, you've added no extra weight and the problem will go away. Have a look at the HK 25A/30A card programed ESC (see PRODUCT ID: HK-SS30A-HW) for $8.73. I have 2 of them in different planes and they're bullet proof and cheap. Cheers!
angelr3566, Switching to an different ESC that doesn't have the (apparently) flawed BEC will absolutely solve your problem. Any ESC with a BEC current capacity of 2A or more will run up to 4 servos with no glitches. The ESC I recommended above has a 3A capacity and has never failed me in any of the planes I've used it in. Cheers!
Sadly, if I had read this before I ordered and discovered I have the same problem, I would have bought something else. Has anyone come up with a solution to this or do I just toss it?
Hi Dave, My advice is just toss it in the bin. There's no fix available short of replacing chips. The funny thing is that I already owned 2 of the HK BlueSeries 30A ESCs and never had a bit of trouble with them. They're identical to the Mystery 30A and are even alluded to as the same ESC in the item listing. I've ordered another BlueSeries 30A since having this problem and the new one worked fine as well. So I'm still a big fan of the whole HK BlueSeries, but won't be buying any more of the "Mystery" labeled ESCs. Cheers, EA
From SimonK (tgy_2012-09-30_0d3e617) I flashed bs.hex on my Mystery 30A, however I can only hear two beeps (high low). I can spin the motor, but it draws less current than with the stock firmware.
Any idea what might be wrong?
Is there a stock firmware image for this ESC that I can flash to go back? (reading out the firmware failed as expected)
BTW, I tried this on two of the ESCs and it's the same for both, the hardware is fine.

16 thumbs up!
I have just replaced a Tower Pro Mag 8 25 A with one of these Mystery 30 A units because the throttle curve on the tower Pro was hopeless. All the action was in the 0 to 50pcnt range. At 50pcnt stick position the motor was at full power and going to 100pcnt made no difference. The Mystery ESC has a great linear response, out of the box with no setup, just as a ESC should. As it costs only a couple of bucks more- I know what I will be buying in future.
Regulator jsem zkousel zatim jen na stole. Test neodhalil zadny problem. Velice mile me prekvapila brzda, seka opravdu razantne. Regulator jsem zkousel s motorem Turnigy HXT 2835 3900ot/v s planetovou prevodovku a s 3S A123. Programovani klasicky pres plynovou paku. Krome standartnich veci lze programovat i rozbeh motoru.
WILL NOT WORK WITH HK-450... If you think that there is the slightest chance that you will get near 30A continuous(I have measured my HK-450 @ 33A or so), do not use this esc. For anything lower, say 25A continous, 30A burst it would be exellent. Otherwise it gets hot and shuts down
