How similar is this to the GWS IPS brushed motors? Also, is the gear box in this the same gear box as on this link?http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/%5F%5F

I doubt if the prop shaft is 1.48mm if the motor shaft is 3mm. Can somebody measure & advise us please.
 Andrew 20 points
Prop Shaft is 2.85 mm

Greetings - I got one of these, but cannot work out how it is mounted in a plane. Can somebody tell me? thanks
 GRAHAM 168 points
If it has a square hole facing thru mount forward/aft, then a piece of square wood is placed thru this. the wood is then glued into your planes frame
slowflyer  66 points - 2/12/2010

Any numbers on thrust? Thanks.
 slowflyer 66 points
I answered by myself.
I did finally some measurements on 2 cells, with a not fully charged battery (this with a reason).
Anyway:
prop thrust rpm A V
9x4.7SF 185gr 4170 2.91 7.52
9x6SF 208gr 3840 3.26 7.39
10x4.7SF 256gr 3480 4.09 7.26

Would this work for a GWS pico Tigermoth?
transalpin  86 points - 9/25/2009

module = 0.4
ala722  38 points - 9/12/2009

OK! Got this puppy in today and counted
the gears. Pinion= 9, spur = 64 for a
grand total of 7.11 to one. This is close
to the GWS IPS-B gearing of 7.00 to 1.
ala722  38 points - 9/11/2009

OK, I ordered one and it should be
here soon. I will post the actual
gear ratio here and in the review
thread since no one at HC seems to
be able (or willing) to count the
teeth on the gears and post accurate
info about their product. Stay
tuned for gear counts and review since
I am taking out a feigao and putting this in an existing airframe running 3S.
transalpin  86 points - 8/9/2009

Please, what modul does the gear/motor Pinion have (How many Teeth and which diameter) ?
ala722  38 points - 7/11/2009

A GWS heat sink would also be a nice touch
on 2S and probably mandatory on 3S.
ala722  38 points - 7/11/2009

Giving the direct drive prop spec
(4x4) on a gearbox?

It appears to be above 5:1 by the
looks of it. Which means that an
8x4 prop would probably work well
on 3S too if it is comparable to
other 1230 motors.

A definitive gear ration would be a
welcome and relevant spec to give
though.

what is the proper prop size to use
 T.rex.450 175 points
I use a GWS 114.7SF propeller and get 4.2Amp current draw on 2s Li-po.
I think 7XX-11XX propeller would be ok for use with 2s batteries.
Amna  61 points - 7/8/2009

Hi,
What's the gear ratio on this gearbox?
Thanks
 pnikifor 18 points
the description refers to the motor ONLY, not the gearbox. More info needed

9 thumbs up!
You must consider the porpouse of the designer and find the future use, you will see that the dimensions of the unit are equal to GWS power plant like they used in planes like the Piper Cub, Slow Stick Pico-F and Slow Stick Park Flyer. I am using it in a Piper Cub,and I changed the propeller to a GWS 9050, so now I have enough power to take of the ground.
I am flying at above of 6000 feets from sea level.

OK, I can finally add info here. The pinion is 9t and the spur is 64t for a ratio of 7.1:1. I just tested this with a GWS 0947 prop on 3s (with GWS heat sink). The
results are 4.62A. The gears
are the same pitch as the
gws 300 gearboxes not the fine
pitch of the IPS gearboxes. Overall not a bad deal for the
price.

The motor alone may only be 14.5 grams, but the motor with gear box comes in at 25 grams.

Sorry apparently the 4040 prop is only for the motor by itself. Will probably be OK with a larger prop on the reduction drive.

Very good product!
I use it on my Cupid and even if it weights twice the original brushed motorization, it is more than enough powerful for the Cupid.
