Hi, I wanted to ask a question, I just purchased this motor and the HK SSH50A ESC.the ESC is rated for 50 amps continuous and 65 amps burst. when it arrived in the mail the ESC was pretty huge. my concern is that the ESC is too big for this motor. does it matter if the ESC is bigger then what is needed? is it overkill? will it work just fine?
waiting for this motor to arrive, and thought I will need to connect it to the esc... poop,, bare wires,,, I NEED CONNECTORS... so with that in mind, I will be connecting this motor to the plush 40a esc, what size bullet connectors do I need, 3.5mm, 4mm, 5mm, ?? any input would be appreciated as I doo not have any clue as to what size the wires on either unit are.. THANK YOU...
I have the same setup* 3.5mm 3 wire Bullet-connector is perfect for this motor. Wires are 16 AGW, if I recall correctly. And if you need to reverse rotation, you just turn over the connector and that's all.
For what it's on the Quark specs, it's a very good ESC. You won't have trouble with it. This motor takes up to 28A and the ESC handles 30A continuously, and 50A bursts. And has programmable car, heli or boat modes. It has to work ok. This motor is very good also, I have 2 of them, never had any problems.
If you are asking if the shaft can be reversed the answer is NO. The shaft in this motor is stepped, smaller inside the motor (3mm) than outside the motor (3.17mm). The fan on the end of the motor is reverseable so the motor can be run in clockwise or counterclockwise.
Cable order doesn't matter much, in fact. Connect them and test the motor. If it spins in the correct direction, it's ok. If not, just swap two cables of the 3 that connect the ESC to the motor. Any pair of cables you want to swap will be ok. That's all.
Hello, can I use this motor with the 13-teeth pinion (HK450Pro) as well? I hope so since already everything installed :D - if so, which headspeed do you suggest to target (rpm)?
According to the HK450 specs, you can. And this motor can keep the RPMs. You won't have problems with that. It's a matter of how you fly. To start is better to have a slower head speed, because you're likely going to crash, and damage will be less with less speed (I'm sorry, I'm not trying to let anybody down... there are two kind of heli pilots: the ones that crashed their helis... and the ones that are going to crash them! no one of us gets away from this :-))
If you're a begginer, just keep RPM low on your TX, give more pitch to the blades. My heli wit 11th pinion gives 3000 RPM. Good luck!
i have this motor with the hobbyking YEP esc and the program card in a HK 450 GT heli.
can anyone tell me the best settings for this esc in this setup ?
Hk dont have warehouse in bangladesh or near india . You can order the items from hk and they will be shipped from global warehouse which is in china .
Anyone got a better motor calulation program than this ***********ecalc.ch/helicalc_e.htm?ecalc kinda annoying i cant fing half the motors im looking for and i cant really do any calculations with out it please help if you guys know a better program for that
Anyone have any old Helis 450 And up used for sale, might be interested. My E-mail is sellingall*att****. Send me a pic of your heli. I love all of them . Sren savers. Desktop bach ground.
Receiver depend on your transmitter, it has to be compatible. For instance, you can use Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter w/ Module & 8ch Receiver , or Hobby King 2.4Ghz 6Ch Tx & Rx V2. The Rx are also sold separately.
Thanks for the credit Brian. As the mate Gerry01 wrote above, the receiver must be pair with the transmitter. I'm flying my 450 heli with the HobbyKing HK-T6A V2 TX/RX which is similar to FlySky 6Ch TX(FS-CT6B)/RX(FS-R6B). Keep in mind that the 450 size heli needs at least 6 Channels or more (depending on your setup).
Hey can anyone tell me what size battery I ned with a 40 amp motor controller and a 2215 typhoon motor, also need recomended receiver. Its on a hk450 heli. My name is Brian.
Ninja is right, but personally I use the turnigy nanotechs, higher c output (30-40) for more punch with same dimensions and weight. 3c 2200. As for the rx - what Tx have you got? If you're just starting out, check out the orange systems that're dsm2 compatible. Lot of bnf stuff at lhs's using $pektrum
I prefer to use 3.5mm bullet connectors for this motor. They are cheap and easy to solder. You can get them here at hobbyking or even cheaper from e-bay.
This motor does not come with screws!!! I need to get some screws and washers. Where can I get them from? including product ID. for a good answer I will give credit.
Any short M3 screw will work. My HK450GT kit included motor mounting screws. They work perfect for me. Or simply go to your local craft or iron store, any M3 screws will work. Just be sure they are not too long. Depending on the thickness of your motor-mount they should only be long enough to reach the motor housing but on stick out into the motor itself.
Richard... i have to disagree... the 3.17 shaft is no more or less likely to break than any other size shaft available in this size motor class... what ever severe force it took to break your motor shaft would just as likely break any other size shaft.
No problems with the 40A ESC. The 30A ESC will work for hovering and flying aroud. But with the 30A ESC you might run into trouble when pulling too much amps, therefore the 40A ESC is always the better choice for this motor. Nevertheless personally I would recommend the TURNIGY Plush 40amp ESC.
can the motor lift a camera? im planning on putting a camera on the landing skids for the 450 size. whats the maximum load it can carry? does the number of tooth for the pinion effect the perfomance?
My heli weights 870 gr and the motor has plenty of power. I'm using 11 tooth pinion. I guess it's reasonable to expect to fly well even with 900 or 930 gr.
The 2215 motor is a great motor and is probably capable of carrying more weight. I am not sure what the max payload would be. All I know is that I have a friend who often puts his camera (Not a heavy SLR) underneath his 450 helicopter with one of these motors with 11T pinion and it handles it no problem
Hmmm, very much depend on the overall weight , KV ratting wont help for lifting stuff ..
the 2215H is a little on the light weight side for power , the 2218H might be a better choice ...
Butt: Turnigy H2223 3500KV 50A ESC , since I dont know how much weight ... This might be , too much power , and if it was , just change the throttle curve and max out * 70 or 80pcnt
Power is like money , can you have too much .
No- the motor just comes it self, but deppending of the kit it come with the pinion. 11t fro a 121tgear
I bought this with on HK450 Pro
it becomes with everything ready to assembly
Does anyone know what the exact screw size/pitch is for this motor? I've found that it's been difficult to keep it still on my HK450GT with phillips head screws, so I'd like to try some hex-headed screws instead.
Be sure to check that once the screws are installed that the threaded side does not contact the inside of the motor. It will cause a short and most likely damage the motor if they do.

This motor is 4000kv! NOT 3550kv! On a 450 Heli the following results using the Eagle Tree V3 Logger and Optical Sensor for Head Speed.
12T Pinion Yields 3200 Head Speed 11T Pinion Yields 3000 Head Speed 10T Pinion Yields 2650 Head Speed
Hovering amps in all setup above is a tiny 12Amps
Full Pitch Full Throttle Pumps at 12 Deg Pitch yield 31Amps Drain with 11T & 12T pinions, 28Amps on 10T.
Tested With 2200maH 3 Cell 25C batts and TGY-40A ESC.
!!!ATTENTION!!! This motor is 3550kv!! NOT 4000kv at the first Review. I bought thinking it 4000kv and repented! characteristics: 3.550 kv shaft 3.175 mm cooling system(very good). I recommend it to anyone 3550kv motor. . . ATENCAO!!!!

42 thumbs up!
This motor is on my Mini Titan, and preforms exelent. It much much better than the stock one as for power, as well as at battery and ESC.
Requires something like 15pcnt less mAh, BUT delivers more power.
I fly soft to hard 3d at 85pcnt flat curve throttle for 4 min, plus12 / - 12 , with a 40 A ESC and 2200 flightpower at 25C, and I use 1100 mAh of my lipo. ESC , battery and motor after the flight are cool and ready to go for another round 5 stars

The shaft of the motor goes up because unscrew the little hex screw that retain the shaft in the intake air side and destroy the cogs of the main gear of my HK450GT. Control this hex screw before install it and secure it with thread locker.

After 6 min. flying, battery gets slightly hot, ESC is cool enough, motor is slightly warm. I was done mild 3D like roll, flip, pump action and stall etc. During the flight, the head RPM is constant and there's little down of head speed. I felt the motor have enough power and speed, also ability to keep the torque and speed.
