Can someone please explain advantages/why they would use a EDF in this when, (as I understand it) a pusher prop on the back would be more cheaper, more efficient(less noise, less weight, longer flight, better acceleration etc)? After all this is hardly a fine scale model. Just wondering why they would do it.

Hi Alan,

My guess is that an EDF is safer than an open prop, no chopped fingers, the prop would also have to be a larger diameter than the EDF I dont think a 64mm prop would cut it. Also a screaming EDF adds to the atmosphere, it is a jet model!

Just for fun. The F-18 is a jet so why not make it a jet and keep a few more of the lines of the original. A lot of stuff in this hobby is done just because you can.

Took me an hour or so to put together. You need to trim the join edges with a hobby knife before gluing and the foam is very thin so I mainly used hot glue and/or clear tape rather than CA and got a much stronger result. Plane flies well - with 2 gyros it has very smooth flight! The foam is very fragile (both wingtips and nose were broken before maiden!) but trim any sharp points off and tape edges and it will be stronger. Good value at $50

Very nice looking plane but needs lots of carbon to strengthen the frame. The EDF is of very good quality. No need to balance. The thrust is more than 400 g with 3s 1300 20C. It takes above 29A, power is about 280W.

The airframe is really very fragile. Needs to be strengthen by carbon rods to withstand rough landings and just handling. The EDF is rather of good quality. Mine didn't need to be balanced.
The flying weight is in any case more than declared. Mine with carbon is about 400 g.

The plane is not fast and very stable even at low speed. Landings do not cause any problem. A very good model for a EDF beginner. Recommend.
