I use this transmitter with a HK 6 ch. reciever and an Orange flight stabilizer onn a Cessna 182-500, and everything is O.K. But, because there is no failsafe on this reciever, I tried to put a Trnigy micro failsafe on the ailerons. I put it first between the reciever and the flight stabilizer, then I put it between the stabilizer and the servos, but in both situation the failsafe does not work. I checked the failsafe separatly, and there is nothing wrong with the device. Could anybody help me with this problem? Thanks!

failsafe wouldn't work with this RX... to detect signall loss FS need some clue (absense of signal from RX) but... this rx continue to provide output signals even if you switch off transmitter. So failsafe has no clue RX lost signal... This is common problem for most cheap digital receivers as it's output signal are generated by timer from data stored in internal registers. When signal lost this registers values no more updated but timer continue generating signals from last known values...
 H.G.Vlad 5 points
Thank you for your answer, but what I find strange is that this failsafe works perfect with the Turnigy 9ch. reciever and with the HK 3ch. reciever(on the other 2 chennels than the one that has its own failsafe! You have to admit that both recievers are in the cheap class!
 v_max 4320 points
As I know from my experience with 8ch turnigy v2 RX it stops sending pulses to out when signal lost. This triggers external failsafe OK. (as welll as most flightcontrollers can detect this as signal lost). And as I can see from description for GT2E 3ch receiver it has real build-in failsafe feature (button), so you can store values which should be used when signal lost. Has no idea what it sends to outputs when failsafe is never set. probably also just stops if set nothing. But tr6a behalf different ... it just continue to send output signals.. Tried to use it on tiny quad but get rid of it just because of impossible to setup failsafe..

Hello, does this radio have a three position switch I could use to change flight modes on a quad? Thank you.
 v_max 4320 points
Yes it has ONE three position switch. But three positions are not too much... For MWI firmware you can combine this 3 on aux 1 with 2 pos switch on aus 2 to have total of 6 modes. But with APM flight controllers has only one channel to switch flight modes (up to 6 modes) I moded my t9x with 6 pos waffer switch with resistor divider instead of one useless pots ... Works perfect.

I am just getting in RC hobby and I was thinking this as my first transmitter. What do you guys suggest? Will this be a good transmitter that I can use from beginner to advance stages?
 v_max 4320 points
This is best price/value ratio you can get.. Good for beginners, but I do not like RF part (tx module and rx) .. First because of relatively short range, second no failsafe feature, third only few compatible receivers... A bit more expensive alternative is moduleless 9XR plus Frsky JR-Combo (TXmodule/RX).. This set has a lot of neat features of transmitter (lke ball bearings in gimbals, backlight and more important ISP connector for updating firmware) plus Frsky combo with real long range (over 1km). So... you have a choice.. save few bucks and get medium range system or pay a bit more and get really awesome full range system... Sure you alwars can upgrade 9x later with backlight and with frsky combo but this will be more expensive way

I like this transmitter because it's flexible for beginning. You can start with the original transmitter module & receiver, it works fine for line of sight flight. But please never try to go further. And when/if you're bored and want something more powerful, you can make it evolve with i.e. a FrSky module/receiver.

Aniket I have a Hk 6 both V1 and V2, I have a Hk 4 V2, I have this Turnigy9XV2 and a 9XR with a Ornage DSM X / 2. But I wish I could have started with the NEW Turnigy TGY-i10 10ch 2.4GHz Digital Proportional RC System with Telemetry (Mode 2) (SKU: 9114000007-0). I would have saved a lot of money and time.
 v_max 4320 points
I have started with 9x plus additional receiver. Then upgraded t9x with backlight, next moded adding ISP connector to reflash with er9x firmware, then replaced stock rf part with frsky djt combo and finally replaced all my RX-es with frsky d4r-ii. Wish I'd choose this way from the begining.. I'd save some money and save a lot of my time and DIY work. As for i10.. seems rather expensive for what you have... has nonreplaceable TX module.. and this is my main doubt... if the RF part is same range and quality as t9x has then it's defenetly overpriced.
 v_max 4320 points
Sorry.. want to say.. Wish I'd choose 9XR (not 9X) from the begining.

Thank you all for your comments, since I am starting on a limited budget I don't think I will be able to get TGY-i10. Also the regulations in my area state that RC planes cannot to be flown more than 300 meters high and out of sight of the pilot. I think right now best bet will be this and then upgrade with FrSky module if there is a change in regulations.

What type of battery/s does it use?
 v_max 4320 points
It has removable battery holder for 8xAA size batteries.. Alternatively you can use any 3s lipo which fit 30x32x110mm battery compartment.. The most capacitive 3s which fit is Rhino2650.
 NewToHobbyKing 14756 points
Grant I us a Lipo in mine. A Flightmax 2500 03C Zippy Battery. (Any Jr Type will fit but you will need to mod the Plug to match that on the 8 x AA battery Holder). If you are going to stay with AA Batteries then get 8 x 1.6v Turnigy AA Ni-ZN 1500mAh High Voltage (SKU: 9169000003). They are well worth every cent you spend on them!

Love my 9x but i have stick pot going bad. HK please stock replacement parts for this TX.
 NewToHobbyKing 14756 points
Steve A you need to track down a old V1 model or a broken V2. Look on E Ba y or go to the Members Forum (Forum tab at top of this Page), and put a REQUEST in the Buy and Sell Section of the Forum!

I am using an ASSAN hacker modulewith the 9X Tx.
With no recievers available I hooked up the Hacker as follows:
1- Top Pin signal
2- no connection
3- Red plus
4- Black -
5- no connection.

You can see photo's at only gave it 4 stars as the TX did not work as recieved, one of the wires to the dual rate switch was not connected, an easy fix.

I'd give this radio a 5 star rating but there are a few minor things that subtract points.
-One is that putting the batteries is a hassle, the 8 AA cell holder is OK, but the cable gets on the way of the cover and it takes a while to be able to close it, there's a lot of pinching of the cables involved so I shouldn't wonder if the insulation fails sooner or later requiring a replacement of the cables.
-Second is the very annoying and loud BEEEEP!!! you get with every-single-click you do on the buttons, seriously stressing to set up the radio at home, not good for conjugal life. To fix that I cut the leg that goes from a transistor to the speaker and added a 220 Ohm resistor in between.
-Third, no manual comes with the radio.
-Fourth setting up a V-Tail was a mind bending affair, I succeeded but I couldn't grok the logic of the procedure.

Besides those things it's a good product.

I purchased this transmitter & Assan XJ8 module from HC. First I got around the switch error bug (thanks to that reviewer)
For me the Assan XJ8 just flashes red once on start up, but gives no steady red LED & will not go into pairing mode.
Assan say they don't know the problem & suggest putting XJ8 in another TX (I don't have one)
Anyone know how to test if TGY 9X or Assan is the problem? Thanks

Great range - over 3000m, but realy to big receiver. Also dont like to small battery compartment, and antenna linked with wire.
You Also can't mix with AUX cahnnels - you can oly mix first 4 cahnells. No manual - It could be at least link at this product to download manual for Turnigy 9x. Also don,t like that this transsmiter in almost never in stock, or that there smaller 6 ch receivers I waiting for more 3 months So from me only 3 stars.
