Purchases of any other rebranded version of the TURNIGY 9X will not have the latest firmware and patches (even the OEM factory does not have these updates).

What battery would work with this?
 handyjap 523 points
There are no perfect match batteries that I could find. I use "Turnigy 2650mAh 3S 1C LLF Tx Pack (Futaba/JR)" PRODUCT ID: T2650.3S.1C and "ZIPPY Flightmax 2500mAh Transmitter Pack (Futaba/JR)" PRODUCT ID: ZIP25003S3C with the default firmware on the transmitter. Some people also use "Rhino 2620mAh 3S 11.1v Low-Discharge Transmitter Lipoly Pack" PRODUCT ID: R2620-TX-3. All these batteries fit perfectly in the 9x. On these batteries I use the connector that looks like a JR servo connector because I can plug it in either way as the two outer pins of the battery connector on the transmitter are connected on the PCB. "Turnigy 9XR Safety Protected 11.1v (3s) 2200mAh 1.5C Transmitter Pack" PRODUCT ID: 9171000183 does NOT fit and the battery bay have to be enlarged for it to fit.

Hi would this remote be ok to work with the hobbyking sky master? Although the skymaster is a 4 channel required plane and this is 9 channel remote would it still be ok? Thanks
 HobbyShun 148 points
Yes, it wil work OK. In fact any transmitter with more than 4 channels should be OK. Happy flying.

Can the stick set be modified to be similar to Spektrum transmitters?
 v_max 3935 points
what do you mean ? function assignment to sticks? sure it can tx 'mode' can be changed from menu. but physically sticks are different on throttle stick there is no spring load. so choose tx mode2 with throttle on left or mode1 with throttle on right. depending on where you want to have throttle (mode1 and mode 2 are sold as different products here, this one is mode2 with left throttle stick) Swapping rudder and ael is possible choosing mode 3 (throttle/rud right) or mode 4 (throttle/ael left) So important to choose only throttle stick left(mode2) or right(mode1) when purchasing... the rest is configurable... If occasionly you will chose wrong one, then springloader and clicker can me mechanicaly swapped in sticks... so this is also not a big problem to do
 Andy 51 points
No what I meant was on spektrum transmitters channel 1 is throttle vs turnigy is channel 3. Wondering if the channels can match spektrum transmitters so I can use as3x rx.
 colin brown 1 points
Andy, i have this on a JR 9xII which has the same channel assignment as the Spektrum and using an orange RX that i used to use on Spektrum and i have no issues with channel assignments.
 v_max 3935 points
Andy, what's the problem to swap 1 and 3 channels connectors on RX? You can reassign channels via mixer menu on t9x but much more easy physically swap connectors ..
 Andy 51 points
Thabk you for the answers. I am using it without issue but with 3 axis rx or safe equipped rx the rx will try and correct ai lerons but send the command to rudder instead so thats y switching the port is not a fix.
 colin brown 1 points
Hi Andy, which TX and RX are you actually using it on?
 Andy 51 points
Colin tx is the one the discussion is on the turnigy 9x using an orange dsmx module. The rx is any with stabilization/as3x to keep it hobbyking the orange rx 6 channel with 3 axis gyro. When it comes to any dsmx rx I have no issue using this transmitter with the dsmx module.

hi would this setup be ok to fly a quadcopter?
 Cameron 27 points
Yes this setup is fine to fly multirotors. also you can get the 6 flight mode from it if using Ardupilot, but it does use two channels. But for starting out this tx is fine.
 v_max 3935 points
Use this one. It's perfect choice even as is.. for MWI it can be used as is with 6 flight modes are on two channel switches (one is 3 pos switch other 2 pos switch). 3*2=6 Even better with few mods I did... first reflashed with er9x firmware (more flexible channels assigning / mixing capabilities) and replace one aux pot with 6to1waffer switch with fixed resistor divider. So now I have waffer switch to switch modes for APM on a single channel... I think this one is a good choice at this price for beginner... Much better is 9xr(moduleless) plus frsky tx/rx combo but a bit more expensive

I use this for quad and plane (stock). Also works great with fpv head tracking. Best thing though is that there is heaps of tips and setup videos on youtube. And that you can upgrade as v_max says. Big Bang for small buck...

I am using an ASSAN hacker modulewith the 9X Tx.
With no recievers available I hooked up the Hacker as follows:
1- Top Pin signal
2- no connection
3- Red plus
4- Black -
5- no connection.

You can see photo's at only gave it 4 stars as the TX did not work as recieved, one of the wires to the dual rate switch was not connected, an easy fix.

I'd give this radio a 5 star rating but there are a few minor things that subtract points.
-One is that putting the batteries is a hassle, the 8 AA cell holder is OK, but the cable gets on the way of the cover and it takes a while to be able to close it, there's a lot of pinching of the cables involved so I shouldn't wonder if the insulation fails sooner or later requiring a replacement of the cables.
-Second is the very annoying and loud BEEEEP!!! you get with every-single-click you do on the buttons, seriously stressing to set up the radio at home, not good for conjugal life. To fix that I cut the leg that goes from a transistor to the speaker and added a 220 Ohm resistor in between.
-Third, no manual comes with the radio.
-Fourth setting up a V-Tail was a mind bending affair, I succeeded but I couldn't grok the logic of the procedure.

Besides those things it's a good product.

I purchased this transmitter & Assan XJ8 module from HC. First I got around the switch error bug (thanks to that reviewer)
For me the Assan XJ8 just flashes red once on start up, but gives no steady red LED & will not go into pairing mode.
Assan say they don't know the problem & suggest putting XJ8 in another TX (I don't have one)
Anyone know how to test if TGY 9X or Assan is the problem? Thanks

Great range - over 3000m, but realy to big receiver. Also dont like to small battery compartment, and antenna linked with wire.
You Also can't mix with AUX cahnnels - you can oly mix first 4 cahnells. No manual - It could be at least link at this product to download manual for Turnigy 9x. Also don,t like that this transsmiter in almost never in stock, or that there smaller 6 ch receivers I waiting for more 3 months So from me only 3 stars.
