These air brakes are easy to install and are activated by a servo of 5g or bigger. Air brakes work by creating a large increase in drag, making landings slower. They can be installed at the bottom or top of the wing.
Would these be suitable for the Dynamic-S electric glider? The Wingspan is 1560mm and I have only ordered it today, so will have to wait to see the depth. The Pictures look like they will be ok near the Wing Root.
And If so, what kind of servo would best suit it for the Dynamic-S Glider?
Even if you can mount it further out, don't go outboard more than mid span. Too far out and you might run into tip-stall problems at the very worst possible time - during landing. Cartwheels, anyone?
Maguro: Thanks for the pictures. Eric: Appears they come as pair and I think HXT5g servos would be fine. All: It's a shame they are red, should come in white too, perhaps? Once I've finished the conversion my 3 metre Cirrus to electric (yup, I cut the nose off!) I might put Ailerons and set of these spoilers on it. If I do so, I'll post some build pictures in the forums.
Here are links to photos of my spoiler installation. I used an HXT900 servo, but I believe an HXT500 would work as well. I just had the HXT900 on hand. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/up loads/Hobbyking_DUKFLQTRTX220201021555.jpg http:/ /www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uploads/Hobbyking _SGUYIACHPG220201021555.jpg
The spoilers sold by HK are made by CMP, and come on their Ventus model sailplane. The CPM Ventus web page has a number of pictures of the spoilers showing them in the open and closed positions. Here is the link: ***********cmpairplane****/glider/Ventus.html
>It would be really nice if HK would sell the nylon actuator that CPM uses for the spoilers. You can always put a servo in the wing, if you don't want to bother with hooking up the wire before each flying session.
Airbrakes or spoilers increase drag and slightly decrease coefficient of lift, so the sailplane will not slow down, but approach more steeply for easier control of touch-down position. Large airbrakes can also limit speed build-up in a rapid descent from altitude (to get down from strong lift).
Air brakes don't make landings slower (as the caption says)* with airbrakes, you still cannot fly slower then stall speed. Moreover - this type effectively cuts away part of the wings lift, so the stall speed becomes higher. What they do, is increase the sink speed at any given flying speed (more so at high flying speeds) so you can get down quicker without building up momentum.
Fist pair came in broken due to box wich was to small. But was i've got another set after i send e-mailplusphoto's. Great support team. Thanks!

6 thumbs up!
Great product. Have fitted them to a 2m electric glider and they work very well. I am now fitting some to my Bird of Time glider. Would recommend them for either retro fitting or during the initial build. HXT500 servo operates each one faultlessly.
