Is this digital?
 Ayden 128 points
believe it or not its a digital servo, experienced these gone through 4 but 15kg torque, 0.13sec tuned. very good servo, dont last that long for me half year, one went on fire, others died slowly. ayden.

Hi! Anyone knows if they work with a 2S LiPo unregulated, just direct current from de LiPo to the RX? Thanks!
 Gamalier 3 points
Just for the record, this is not the actual Tower Pro version though, this is the Toward pro which does not have brass bearings for gear guides (guides not ball bearings on main gear, they both have those), this instead is plastic (cheaper)
 Ayden 128 points
they do have ballbearings, as i sad ive got 4 of them. opened them up when they all died, currently using their ball bearings for other puposes.

these are GREAT servos for RC rock crawlers! i have used these on all of my crawlers, and have not been able to destroy one of these! i am using one in a slash now, and giving it a pretty good thrashing, as well! there are some "weaknesses" though with these servos, that explain the carzy low price: 1.) to get the full torque, they need a steady diet of AT LEAST 6V. so on an RC car, you might have to run an external BEC in order to get the full voltage. 2.) for car/truck applications, other than rock crawlers, they are a bit on the slow side. granted, it's only 0.06-0.10 of a second, but it is noticable in a short course truck. all in all, i will still turn to these servos first, when i need something for a crawler, or a low cost back up to keep on hand in my box. i didn't know that HK stocked these until just now though!

I what a good servo to put on my Ultimate 120 (20cc gas) Is this good enought ?

 necromaster 189 points
I'm not a flyer, so I dont know how much beating it would take in an Ultimate 120. But this servo does its job in my 1:8 Savage X and Savage Flux. The metal gears are also strong enough to endure my bashing style. Plus you cant beat the price. So if the size and torque is sufficient for your need, I think you can go for it.
 DukeOfDream 109 points
i've been using these servos in both my 1/8 and 1/5 cars and never had a problem...They are very strong servos but i hear from others that are failing...I would not put them in an Airplane...in the other hand many others trust them enough for planes...maybe you could take the risk...

is this servo enough to control the paramotor parafoil?

Operating voltage 4.8-7.2V that work with 2 cell lipo with no regulator?
 Boaterguy 68 points
fully charged 2S lipo is 8.4V (4.2V/ cell) you will need a regulator, and most receivers will only work on 4.8V - 6V.
 chape00 31 points
Work with 2 cells life. Not lipo.
Sergei  2 points - 9/13/2011

What operating angle this thing has?
 Jackson Souza 7 points
Best sevo with the best price.
 Boaterguy 68 points
it says 60*, so i would assume 60* in either direction therefore 120* total
 rewolff 57 points
No! The angle of most servos is 180 degrees or just above that. Pick two random positions and measure the time it takes to move from one to the other. Repeat this lots of times and calculate the average. It turns out that if the travel speed is constant you'll get the same average time as 1/3rd of the time it takes to move the full 180 degrees. So that is why servo speeds are always measured at xxx seconds per 60 degrees. Speeds are probably not constant in practise, but the measurement can be compared with other servos this way.

Is this suitable for use in 1/10 truck?
 Kripto 22 points
Yes, has good torque and good centering point.
 Buzz_eclair 74 points
Yes but it'is very slowy and not recommended for steering
 Niels 2 points
You can use it as a steering or gas/throthle servo. But make sure you use a proper servosaver! '

so is this a digital or analog servo, my LHS is also selling same name " towerpro 996r " but is badged as Digital Metal Gear Standard Servo (0.17sec/60Deg*4.8V), so is this the Tower pro 996r analog version Metal Gear Servo, or are they the same? You can google seacrh for Jet hobby, go to servos, towerpro brand, n u will see the MG996R digital metal gear servo i am talking about.

I don't think these are digital are they?(IC control?). I was thinking of putting them in a HK 500 what you guys think
 Tryin2fly 263 points
LMAO- never mind I found the answer to my question.
 Steve 7 points
Yeah there dig
 mikeylama 51 points
in a HK 500 this servo is way too big and heavy to fit in, and this servo is also too inaccurate for precision Heli control. You should get some smaller and more accurate servos there.
 morphine 407 points
no not digital
 Norberto 10 points
Yes they are digital and for the price they are very good servos.
 Max 10 points
They are I use them in a HK500 also, they are great I have never had a problem with them.
 carganton 136 points
This servos is too slowly for one hk500. It's perfect for a one plane 30cc but, in the cyclic plate ok, but not for gyro. I need one servo more quickly
Caronte  31 points - 2/16/2011

 RJ 2 points
I was wondering, is this a continuous rotation servo so that it keeps turning instead of a maximum of, say, 180 degrees? Thanks.
 Norberto 10 points
Grazie... anche a me piace molto...
bedrock  29 points - 2/6/2011

Can i use this servo with 8.4V? Direct 2s lipo.
 Brutus315 26 points
Since the voltage passes through your ESC to the receiver it's the voltage output of the reciever that counts. The servo can take 4.8V-7.2V you will be fine if your Rx outputs in that range.
 Fidelity 392 points
YES! It says 7.2v, which is the "nominal" voltage for lipo batteries. You will not have any problem running two cell lipos and the voltage will quickly drop to around 8.0 or less when it's actually being used.
 Crampy 184 points
No. They are rated for 4.8-7.2 volts. You need to find a proper high voltage rated servo, or use a BEC or some other form of voltage regulator with a 2S LiPo.
 FRENZY GUY 61 points
yes you can...i have for a while now with no problems...its fast as hell too!!hope this helps
 VROOM 193 points
Yes, if your RX can handle it.
 AlexSolo 148 points
Yes, but make sure that your RX ia able to handle high voltage!!! FrSky HV series is very good choice!
 spitfire2010 640 points
NO. use a bec
 Crampy 184 points
As I said, NO. It might work for some people, but if it gets a hard load for whatever reason, you'll smoke it on a 2S. Get a BEC.
 Crampy 184 points
It's not whether the Rx can handle the voltage or not, it's if the servo can handle it at maxumum load of what you're flying.
 kallenwestbrook 54 points
no. They can be run direct from a 6V nimh pack (7.2V fully charged) or regulated 6V threw BEC
 aviatik 93 points
operating voltage is 4.8 - 7.2V
 ANLUCAS 147 points
No you shouldn't. 6V max.
 renatoa 39 points
NO ! Operating voltage 4.8-7.2V
I would advise 2s LiFePo4 pack, delivering 6.6V
 Dr.LuckyLuke 317 points
Yes, no problem for 2S. See "Operating voltage 4.8-7.2V". 7.2V means 2S Lipo (in general there is written 7.2 for 2S since it is "rated voltage" of 2S lipo).
 Hella-Kopterz 129 points
Specs at 4.8-7.2v operating range and 2s is 7.4 (fully charged they are over 8.5 IIRC) so I would say no UNLESS you use a voltage regulator set to an acceptable voltage (I would run it around 7v... always leave yourself a little headroom), then you should be ok.
 de_kata 137 points
Yes, you can use 2s lipo for this servo.
 kimsbored 37 points
Yes. I've done it, but after about half an hour of use for steering in 1/8 truggy on 2s lipo it stopped working.
 Adrews 13 points
No! You could fry the servo
 __erim 4 points
yessssssssss
 Max 10 points
No, most servos are only rated to 6v, anything greater could fry it.
 carganton 136 points
NO, the servo running with 8.4v (2S full charger), but in 20-30 flys the servo cann't find center and broken and die. 8.4v is too voltage. One bec and 6v it's the best opcion.
 Marty62 35 points
From the other answers it looks like you can, but only if you don't really want it to work. :)
hmalave  121 points - 2/4/2011

Any Ideas why the label of the servo says
TOWARDPRO instead of Tower Pro
 H-KING_SCOTT 5161 points
Tower Hobbies is a registered trade mark in USA.
TowerPro changed their name on US products.
 minot@ur 46 points
Dont bother, its the same servo.
 AlexSolo 148 points
You can burn it out even at 4.8V! Depends on chance. New 6 cell NiMh pack can be charged up to 8V and it is NORMAL. Anyway, this servo CAN handle 2S LiPo with appropriate receiver or via power box to separate receiver and servo powerlines.

anyone know if changing cables, can be reversed?
Thanks in advance
Mainland
 Medic05 15 points
No. Changing the cables will not reverse it. Must be done with a transmitter.
 hmalave 121 points
YES you can reverse it changing cable .
1. Change the cable of the Motor
2.- when you open the servo you will se a board you will see on the back of the board 3 cables Brown, white and red . You need to swap the white with the Red and that´*s it
use a very low watt solderig iron (20 W max) .
After reversing the Servo i tested with 250 -300 full cycle no Load and about 100 cycles with Load . Now I mounted it on My P-51B 120 .driving the FLAPS without adding any extra point of failure andno need for any extra channel.
For The Servo cycle i used The Turnigy Servo Tester SKU: TGY-ST
 plasticbaldy 352 points
Does this apply to all servos ? How is this different from switching the and - at the plug please ? Are the White & Red on the back of the board the incoming leads or wires to the motor only ?

Hola, he comprado varios de estos servos. Van fenomenal, en comparación con los anteriores 995 son mucho mejores, no silvan y van más rápido. Los he abierto y la electrónica no tiene nada que ver, es mucho mejor.
Lo único igual son los piñones.

These servo's are GREAT!!! they enter very well, and are SUPER strong. The servo arms are very beefy, and show very little signs of flexing. Also, the servo wires are very thick compared to most standard servos to handle the peak currents required for high torque servos. Servo connectors fit snugly on my receiver, and won't come off in the air or in a crash. BTW, very nice set of rubber bushings with brass inserts. Should protect the servos from vibration. (yes, that can damage electronics)
