Is it really has a 5 mm shaft? planning to use this for my homebuilt ornithopter ... where can I find a pinion?
 Tripp 6 points
No the shaft is a 3mm, I have on in my hand and I just measured it.

Are these reliable for making a quadcopter??
 alluriharikishan 43 points
Not much unless your quad is a micro level.. these motors will burn if you put more load. One of my motor has been burned...

I do not recommend, its fast but not strong. Try to use Motor Brushless E-Max CF2812, 1500kv, propeller 80X40.
 Matias Enrique 4 points
creo q para un quadcopter necesitarias un motor q porte una pala de mayor diametro. este motor es ideal para usar con una helice 45x40 y 3celdas lipo

I plan to get 4 of these and put it on a GWS C-130 using 5x3 props for brushless conversion. What do you guys think?
 mal@wiseman.ws 6 points
The two that I received were almost DOA and eventually did die in the shop, never flown. One huge annoyance is the hub shape of the prop saver. I could not get any of my props to fit securely sitting on that hub. Is there a prop type I'm missing? I decided to buy these HK motors 2 at a time thinking I'd get one good one for sure. But no. Buy 3! In your case JackChen buy 8.

Hello colleagues,
I would like to know de real shaft diameter. My plan is use this motor in a small gear box and I will use a pinion gear at rear motor. Anybody knows?
Thanks for help,
Z

Hello Zoltar,

i just measured the shaft and it comes out to 2.98mm. basically 3mm. It sticks out about 5.5mm from the back from the e-clip. hope that helps:)

Thanks xcellflyer!!!
 Firepower 45 points
Mine is 2.95mm.

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased this little motor for use in a little foamie. However, when i received the motor, the two screws (used for the prop o-ring) were not perfectly straight across. One was, bu the other is off center and it is causing an obvious vibration. Is there a way I can lengthen the shaft so I can use a prop a different prop adaptor?

I know on my other brushless outrunners, usually you just remove the little clip and adjust the shaft forward. THen you just install the little c-clip on the other cutout on the shaft. This shaft only appears to have one. What do you think?
 Firepower 45 points
I have two of these in planes and a spare one and the screws on the three of them do not line up. I just started one but did not notice any vibration. A lot of motors only have the one cir clip slot in the shaft. Obviously you can not move the shaft forward and put the cir clip in another place on the shaft, as the shaft at the back of the motor does not have another grove. I hope that answers your questions.

146 thumbs up!
Here is my take on this motor:

Positives:
1.) Reasonably priced.
2.) Quality is good
3.) Smooth Run (low noise)
4.) Approx 140grams of thrust without getting overheated at 7.3 amps
5.) Recommended for small park jets. Fast models.
6.) Small size and good value for money

Negatives
1.) Very fragile wires.
2.) Winding is not very perfect.
3.) Heats up at heavy loads (though it is normal)
4.) Efficiency 65pcnt-69pcnt
5.) Need good airflow for a better cooling.

24 thumbs up!
I recently ordered the HXT C2222 but got an orange Turnigy "aerodrive" of the same Kv instead. Moderately satisfied. Agree with others that wires are thin and very fragile. Winding is a bit slopy too. Otherwise quality is good, including ball bearings (!)and running is smooth. Price would be reasonable.... but this motor is definitely not in the 50-60W class unless you want to generate more heat than thrust. With 2S and a 6X3 prop it runs at 9,80A and yields 160g thrust but gets instantly very hot. With a 5X3 prop yields 145 g thrust at 7A and runs a bit cooler. With the stated constants (Io, Rm)which I believe to be optimistic, efficiency works out at 60-65pcnt at about 4 A (i.e. 16-18 useful watts !), which places it in the very low end of outrunner performance.
Conclusion: Definitely not for slowflyers. Use it on speedy designs of up to 180 g with up to 2S, 6A.
UH, I would suggest more accurate constants and more attention to detail.

9 thumbs up!
Great little motor, it pulls vertically a little racer of 140 gr with a 4X4 GWS propeller. measurement:
4X4 GWS
60W in (more than 420w/kg)
5.2A
and terrific sensation

7 thumbs up!
This motor is comparable to the 250.
A 7x3.5 GWS prop on 2 cell
A 5x3 prop on 3 cell.

A great little motor.
