What are the dimensions of the plate that is used to mount the landing gear ?
Thx

Hi, am looking at these to replace the cheapy alloy ones on my Edge540 30e size. The height looks the same (130mm from axle to mounting) but there is no mention of the track width.

Could anyone with a set measure for me?

Maybe just sit the base mounts together and measure how far apart the wheel mountings would be.

Cheers, Dave.

The height is actually 120mm to the axle, not 130 as advertised. Total width from axle mount to axle mount if the base's are touching (as in \__/) is 250mm.

Drilling was very simple using a standard HSS drill bit.

Looked good as per previous post. Nice and flexible, but after about 20 flights off proper grass runway (no hard landings) one is splitting already and loosing strength.

Might have to go back to the alloy ****py originals!

Mine are still going strong after almost 2 years of use on a 400 gram foamy. In-fact its strong enough to have stayed together as the aircraft fell apart around them after a hard impact which hit the legs first (the whole nose of the plane was broken off with it!!). Aircraft was repaired and still going strong.

Maybe their strength is more of an issue in heavier crafts for which these were intended 600-800 gram range) or maybe your luck with manufacturing quality. With respect to the laying of the fiber mesh, I have once received a leg where the mesh is not laid on as neat. This might have some structural significance.

I never owned a carbon fibre landing gear before. Is it easy to drill holes in them in order to place the axles? Thanks.

If you use a spade drill bit, making an axle hole is easy. If you use any kind of conventional high speed drill, all you will do is dull the drill bit. Getting a spade drill bit may be somewhat difficult. Try contacting a supply source for carbon-epoxy (also known as graphite-epoxy).

You can use standard drill bits. They must be sharp. I have bought a set of bits I use only for CF as they will git blunt very easy. Just replace each bit as it gets worn. Always clamp or vice the part you are drilling and be careful of the dust (use a mask).

Aunque me equivoqu cuando lo ped, es cojonudo y muy liviano, as que se lo voy a poner a un Funky modificado que me estoy haciendo.

9 thumbs up!
Great Pair of CF legs. Finish is really good on these, with a smooth finish both interms of its shape, and in the quality of the surface. The legs themselves are not just a curved plate, but are somewhat airfoiled on the outside, and flat on the inside.

These feel very strong, with good strength against both normal vertical weight loading and quite importantly twisting

Mine weighed in at 8.5 grams each. The flat section that fixes to the plane is 50x20mm and 2mm thick. The wheel end is 20x11x2mm - more than enough to put a wheel bolt for a wheel around 40-50mm

I would definately reccomend these for anyone with a model of around 40 inches wingspan and around half a kilo to a kilo of weight. And with the price drop (after i bought it.. Grrr..) its now good value.

Its not the cheapest Carbon legs around, but because of the good finish, its worth the extra cost to make your plane look that bit better. Id get another if i can afford another plane

- 5 stars

5 thumbs up!
I've installed these on my QQ yak 49" wingspan.
plusThey are strong and beautifully made.
plusFlexes nicely on my grass landing strip (1.3kg) model unlike the 130mm rigid alu gear that came with my Hyperion SU-31.
Note
They have a narrow track 250mm between the inside edges of the wheels installed end to end.
The 130mm from the belly of the plane to the wheel axle. The gear is thus slightly longer plus-135mm
In retrospect I should have got a 150mm or 160mm gear set for my plane. I prefer my YAK to stand higher

Might have to go back to the alloy crappy originals!
