can i use a 2S battery with this motor. on a GWS slowstick park flyer?
I accidentally bought two 2S batteries
if I can not use them then is there another motor 2S compatible I can use?
What should be the max temperature of this motor? I was flying my quad and noticed that all my motors were very hot so just curious. What is the max temperature of these motors before they blow up on me. Thanks in adv.
Below 160°*F or 71°*C (too hot to hold) is a comfortable maximum, over 200°*F (93°*C) will start to blacken the laquer on the wire around the stators and potentially demagnitize the magnets.
Hello, i have problem with this motor and ESC TowerPro w25A (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewIte m.asp?idProduct=4860)
when i connect battery to esc.. i hear beep-beep.. alltimes...i don't know what i need to do :(
try to read a manual for this www.link you can find what do this sound mean. I think you just need to calibrate the throttle and to play with trimming of throttle down or up.
1 Turn on the trasmitter;
2 Move the throttle stick at the max;
3 then connect the battery;
4 wait some seconds, ear beep-beep;
5 move the throttle stick to minimum;
6 now ear a number of beep = the number of cells you use then a long beeeep.
Now it's all ok. Right?
If no you must read www.link
Thats a bit much, 11x4.7 would be the biggest prop I would run. I am sure you could probably use the 12's but the amp draw would be high, run time would be diminished, and the whole esc motor system would be working at there max capabilities. I have a few quads running these motors, and I am running 10x4.7 with great success and way too much power.
Where do i get a new shaft for one of these ? I bough a used Quadcopter with four of these mounted, and one shaft is worn out (I replaced the bearings on all 4 motors, but the shaft is loose inside the bearings)
Argh! - Stupid system!
Search ebay for "1/8" x 5/16" x 9/64" Teflon Sealed Bearing" and you'll find them. They are great, was easy to replace, and 3 out of 4 motors run perfectly smooth with them - unfortunately, the shaft of the 4th is worn out, so i need a new one...
Just picked up 4 of these motors and some turnigy 3s1p 3000mAH 20c lipo's, would a max draw from my battery of 15 amps each motor be ok? Like will I fry my lipo's with this setup?
If with a single battery you want to power all the 4 motors at the same time, then the setup is not correct, as 15A*4=60A and your battery is rated for 60A, even if you are still in the admitted range you are at the maximum so you will likely shorten the life of your batteries...
Thanks, I guess I am stuck with my order now, I would like to change it but it is impossible to contact anyone at Hobby King. I can always hook two of the packs in parallel for proper amps.
I used these engines and ESC for my quads and they are excellent, a 1100mAh lipo is quite small but with 25C can provide the power, it will be empty real quick though....
It seems that most prop savers are in back order. I was going to suggest to get a 3mm and drill the hole a little larger, but they don't have any 3 mm savers. I don't think a 4mm will work, will it?
There are prop savers on a famous action site (which I won't name). They are the same as the blue ones from Hobbyking (probably the seller bought them from HK, HK is out of stock and he marks the price up). Search for '3.17mm Prop Saver w/ Adapter' on that famous auction site
I have the 20-28 which happens to have the same shaft and comes with a prop saver. According to the reviews, some received it with a prop saver. This is strange* I'm a BK few and keep them for later use...
The motor comes with a "dual shaft" meaning it is fixed to come out of the rear of the motor, and a shaft mount allows you to attach a shaft to the other end of the motor, but no prop savers anymore.
I believe it'll exceed its maximum current rating at wide open throttle with a 12" prop. The APC 10x4.7 prop is a good choice for quadrotors using this motor. The motor dissipates ~160W at wide open throttle with a 10x4.7, which is right on its maximum power rating.
I'm using this on a Y6 copter, with 10-4.5 propellers. It have no problems lifting off with this set up, i would not use a 12" on this motor, the flight time will be shorten a lot I belive. This motor will be perfect in quadrocopter set up, it is quiet and well ballanced.
Does Turingy makes an equivalent Motor? I am planning to use it in the fun jet. Any ideas. Its in the mail. And I am wondering if I can mount this motor on the existing mount on the fun jet, for extra push:) Fun jet seems to be a promising plane for upgradationg. Any responce would be welcome...
I would say go for the Turingy 2213/22. They are very simliar to the KDA20-22L. The 2213/22 pretty much match it in ever aspect. Check out www.link for a detailed comparison.
Yes you can surely use a prop saver on this motor...
The only thing you will have to do is reverse the motor shaft...
Then the shaft will be extra from the other side instead of what it is now...
Then you can put the prop saver on it...:)
I notice that the wires are not color coded. Hiw can I tell the correct hook-up? I notice a shafdt on the frant and back of the motor. Are both of these part of the motor? Do I have the option to remove on for more clearance. I will be using this in an old Oly II Glider.
Are you refering to the picture where you see the prop shafts on front and back? You wouldn't actually do that. I think the picture is just showing you that you can use either side of the motor.
Does this motor can be mounted behind firewall? I want to try this on a glider with 9x6 folding prop, but want it inside cabin. It cames with spare shaft?
I have used one in an eflite ascent it has clearance to run. Yees has a spare shaft. The motor can turn a 9x6 folding with ease on 3 cell lipo. Need a 20 or better yet a 25 amp esc.
Probably no one that have tried... See a couple in the reviews that are using 12x6 folding (one on 3S), and a couple using 2S, so if you go 2S and a 12x6 it will probably work out ok! Maybe the SF will be a bit too tough, it may need an E prop. Use a powermeter and test before flying is my advice:)
My advice is to use this motor with 3S, if you are up to save weight, I can tell you that 10x47 and 15C lipos work fine. This motor is a screamer (in its class, when is used on 3S)
Has anyone successfully reversed the shaft on this motor? ie made it stick out the other end. I tried taking off the circlip and loosening the setscrew, it was still too tight . . .
chench, take off the c-clip and pull on the black mount and on the bell. slides right off. search "Reversing a Hacker Style Brushless Motor 20-22L." should be first page link.
Used a few times then it just stopped working. Try the KDA-22-20L instead, similar price but has been going for a long time...Plane is 16oz AUW, 10x4.7 prop, 25a esc, 3 cell 1000mah.

20 thumbs up!
Unfortunately, my engine KDA20-22L stood only 5 flights with the model weight 427gr, a screw 11 * 4,7 and worn out. Very sorry.

I used this motor with 25A turnigy speed controller and 1300 3s lipo. In 3 flight it stucks and i lands my plane without thrust! Why this motor was stops in flight i dont understand yet...

2 stars less for poor quality control ! Great motor for design and performances but plan to buy one or two spare pieces if you feel unlucky.
I bought four at the same time and one was completely different , different wires output location , large movement of the motor bell over shaft, much more noise. Another time I bought 5 of these motors and one had the bell blocked I had to unmount it and remove metal piece between magnets.

Good motor, spare sharft included. Used it in a small glider, where it turn a 10x6 prop with 2 cell lipos. Only three stars since the first motor I received had loose magnets and shaft broke easily after a rough landing. However HC replaced the motor and this one worked fine. Quality seems to vary
