This little compass module is perfect for Arduino and micro-controller projects and has “bread board” ready pin pitch, this could also be used to relocate to an external compass, on flight controllers that are having mag problems from the proximity to the electric motors. The breakout board includes the HMC5883L sensor and all filtering capacitors as shown. The power and 2-wire interface pins are all broken out to a 0.1" pitch header. Features low current draw which will be the best for your micro project.

Go to copter.a r d u p i l o t DOT c o www.link all the connection details are there. HKPilot Mega V2.5 is the exact clone of APM2.5 so follow these specific instructions and do not forget to cut the track on your HKPilot 2.5 for disabling the internal compass.
This is now replaced with HMC5983. I bought the newer version for half this price.

This is exactly what I needed for my 550 DJI clone, I was getting 40 degrees shift on my mag this has reduced to zero thanks to being able to move the mag away from all the electrics. As a bonus my gps seems happier, fitting was easy just had to cut trace connection from the mag and change one line on the sketch. picture in files tab of my setup.
At that price it would be nice to have a 4 pin DF13 connector cable for I2C connector included or at least sold separately for connecting to HKPilot Mega V2.5 (or APM2.5). PRODUCT ID: 074000072 is pretty much the same, but the included cable is also no good for APM2.5.
